Abstract

The concept of limits in functions is a fundamental aspect of calculus with various practical applications in everyday life. This study investigates the application of limits in the fields of physics, economics, and biology. In physics, the concept of limits is used to calculate instantaneous velocity and acceleration, which are crucial for understanding the dynamics of motion. In the economic sector, limits play a role in marginal cost analysis and predicting economic growth, while in biology, limits are employed to model population growth approaching the carrying capacity of the environment. Furthermore, this study identifies gaps in the teaching of limits in schools and universities, particularly in the integration of interdisciplinary applications. The findings of this research indicate that limits are not only mathematical analysis tools but also practical solutions to various challenges across different fields of life.

Abstract

This study examines Pepali Pitu of Sunan Drajat as a philosophical teaching that embodies wisdom, social ethics, and spirituality within the framework of Sufism, and compares it conceptually with Bidayah al-Hidayah by Imam al-Ghazali. This research employs a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach to explore the similarities and differences in the spiritual journey structure of both teachings. The findings reveal that both Pepali Pitu and Bidayah al-Hidayah emphasize the spiritual stages of human life through the concepts of takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli, focusing on self-purification, moral development, and closeness to God. The main difference lies in their approach: Sunan Drajat conveys Sufi values through local Javanese cultural symbols, while al-Ghazali formulates them systematically within the classical Islamic scholarly tradition. These findings highlight that Sufism remains relevant as a moral and spiritual guide that is adaptable to both local and universal contexts. This study is limited by its conceptual scope and does not empirically examine how these values are practiced in contemporary Muslim communities. Therefore, future research is recommended to investigate the practical implementation of Pepali Pitu and Bidayah al-Hidayah, especially in character education and cultural-based Islamic propagation.

Abstract

In recent decades, MMR has emerged as the third methodological movement due to the “paradigm wars” between quantitsative and qualitative. The philosophy of pragmatism is often associated with MMR because of its flexibility in integrating various methods to answer research needs. However, there are still major challenges in integrating the underlying philosophies, especially the aspects of ontology, epistemology, and methodology. This study aims to analyze how the philosophy of pragmatism can be used as a meta-framework in MMR; how pragmatism is able to accommodate positivism, constructivism, critical realism, and transformative-emancipatory in various MMR models; and to develop a conceptual framework to understand the ontological, epistemological, and methodological positions of this integration. The approach used in this study is literature synthesis with the narrative review method. This study produces findings that pragmatism in MMR acts as a meta-framework that can combine various research methods by accommodating various relevant philosophical views. The results of this study also found that pragmatism is able to accommodate various philosophical paradigms by accepting that both quantitative and qualitative (as well as other methods) have equal value and complement each other in producing scientific knowledge. Furthermore, the results of this study also present a conceptual framework that can position ontology, epistemology, and methodology in MMR integration.

Abstract

Sunan Gresik, or Shaikh Maulana Malik Ibrahim, is one of the central figures in the history of the spread of Islam in Java, especially in the context of Islamic education. This research aims to explore Sunan Gresik's contribution to the development of Islamic education, as well as its impact on the character and intellectual formation of Javanese society. Using a qualitative approach with library study methods, this research analyzes various sources, including historical texts, academic literature, and related documents, to formulate Sunan Gresik's role as an educator and innovator in the world of Islamic education. The research results show that Sunan Gresik not only focuses on spreading Islamic teachings, but also realizes the importance of education as a means of advancing society. He founded the Islamic boarding school as an educational institution which became a center for teaching religious knowledge and instilling moral values. The teaching method used by Sunan Gresik emphasizes the integration of Islamic teachings with local wisdom, making it easier for people to understand and practice religious teachings. The impact of this educational reform was seen in the growth of an educated and ethical Muslim community, which later became the foundation for the development of Islam in Java.

Abstract

Language is an important role in human life because language is a tool to convey information, intentions and goals. English is one of the subjects that plays a vital role in developing students’ language skills, including at the elementary school level. However, in practice, many elementary students still struggle with mastering English vocabulary due to limited teaching methods and low learning motivation. This study aims to improve students’ English vocabulary mastery through the application of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model supported by Baamboozle media. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were 35 fifth-grade students at UPT SD Negeri 287 Gresik. Data were collected through observations and vocabulary tests. The results indicate that the use of Baamboozle media increased students’ engagement, curiosity, and critical thinking in learning English vocabulary in a more enjoyable and meaningful way. The pre-test results showed that only 31% (11 students) met the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM), with an average score of 71.60%. After the intervention, vocabulary mastery improved: in Cycle I, 76.70% of students reached the “Sufficient” category (21 students), and in Cycle II, 85% achieved the “Good” category (28 students). These findings demonstrate that implementing the PBL model combined with interactive digital media can effectively enhance English vocabulary learning at the elementary level.

Abstract

The designation of Jember as an administrative region (afdeling) in 1883 triggered the migration of people from various ethnic groups, particularly Javanese and Madurese communities, who later became the dominant groups in the Tapal Kuda region. The intensive interaction between these groups shaped a distinctive process of cultural acculturation known as Pandalungan culture. This study aims to explore the forms of cultural acculturation between Javanese and Madurese ethnicities in the local arts of Jember. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied using content analysis of various relevant written sources. The findings show that Pandalungan culture has not yet developed into a fully established cultural system, but rather exists as a hybrid cultural expression that continues to evolve. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of cultural hybridization in folk arts and provide an important basis for preserving local cultural identity and strengthening social harmony in multicultural regions such as Jember.

Abstract

Curriculum evaluation is a strategic step in ensuring the quality of education. This article examines various aspects of curriculum evaluation through a literature review of academic sources published between 2020 and 2024. The findings indicate that the most frequently criticized aspects of curriculum implementation include the misalignment of instructional content with students' needs and characteristics, as well as the limited relevance of curriculum content to advances in knowledge and labor market demands. In addition, qualitative evaluation models—such as in-depth interviews and participatory observation—are recommended, as they are capable of capturing dimensions of the learning process that are often overlooked by quantitative approaches. This review highlights the importance of selecting appropriate evaluation models as a foundation for continuous improvement and the development of a curriculum that is more adaptive to change.

Abstract

This research examines the linguistic landscape (LL) of Malindo Swimming Pool, a multilingual public space in Gresik, to explore patterns and representation of language use and their cultural implications. Using qualitative methods, including visual documentation and content analysis, the research identifies the functions and representations of languages in signage. Findings reveal that Bahasa Indonesia dominates practical signs, ensuring clarity for local visitors, while English is strategically employed for branding and inclusivity, appealing to a broader audience. Notably, the absence of regional languages like Javanese highlights a prioritization of national and international communication. Semiotic analysis uncovers the denotative and connotative meanings in the LL, reflecting modernity, cultural identity, and social dynamics. This research contributes to understanding multilingualism in public recreational spaces and provides insights for managing linguistic diversity in tourism settings.

Abstract

The coastal characteristics of Pekalongan Regency indicate substantial wind potential, prompting the need for studies on renewable energy utilization. This study aims to forecast wind speed and estimate the electrical power that can be generated using a Decision Tree Regression algorithm. Eleven years of historical climate data (2013–2023) from the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) were used to build the model. Evaluation results show a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 4.108 and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.049, indicating the model has limited predictive performance. The 2024 wind speed forecast ranges from 3.8 to 7 m/s, with an average of 4.5 m/s. This wind speed translates into estimated electrical power ranging from 844 to 5,277 watts, averaging 1,599 watts per month, equivalent to a potential monthly energy output of 191.88 kWh. This study concludes that while there is potential for small-scale Wind Power Plant (PLTB) development, such as for public street lighting, the accuracy of the predictive model needs to be significantly improved for more critical applications.
