Abstract

Many members of the community do not have sufficient knowledge about the benefits of herbs and how to use them properly. This often leads to distrust of the effectiveness of herbs as an alternative treatment. The habit of consuming modern medicines is more dominant than herbs. This is triggered by the perception that modern medicine provides results faster. Limited access to information about the types of herbs and their benefits, as well as limited access to quality herbal products in some areas. In 2024, there were 56 PCIM members studying in Thailand and around 130 Indonesian students studying internationally at Khoen Kaen University (KKU). Around 40% of these students experienced physical complaints such as colds, nausea, vomiting and dizziness due to physical conditions, weather and other things. The use of herbs/herbal medicine as an effort to maintain health and treat various diseases that have been passed down from generation to generation. This legacy is expected to continue to be utilized by the younger generation, especially international students, as an alternative to increase endurance and overcome physical complaints. Indonesia and Thailand have similarities in the use of herbs as medicine, including ginger, melon, nutmeg, cinnamon, chili, cloves, galangal, lemongrass, honey and others. The implementation of community service was carried out in Mueang District, Khon Kaen, Thailand, on August 28, 2024 with 20 participants. After being given counseling and practice in making herbal drinks, participants were able to learn the types, benefits and how to process spices as herbal drinks to be used as safe and effective alternative medicine.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Government efforts to improve family health include improving family nutrition. One of the solutions to overcome nutritional problems is to hold a nutritional improvement program by utilizing local food ingredients called Local PMT. The provision of local PMT is intended for toddlers and pregnant women who experience chronic energy deficiency. Based on the results of a preliminary survey in Mekargalih Village, Tarogong Kidul District, Garut Regency, the prevalence of KEK in pregnant women in November was 20.75%, where the RPJMN target in 2024 was 10%. Of the 53 pregnant women, 11 pregnant women experienced KEK. KEK is a condition where a person suffers from an imbalance in nutritional intake (energy and protein) that lasts for years. Pregnant women who experience KEK will have problems during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. In addition, it will also have an impact on fetal development. The government has made efforts to help reduce the incidence of KEK in pregnant women by providing additional food regularly to pregnant women, but these efforts have not been able to achieve the expected target. Objective: The implementation of community service is to empower the community by increasing the knowledge of pregnant women, cadres and community leaders about the impact of KEK on pregnant women and teaching pregnant women with KEK skills in processing varied and innovative foods. Method: The method used in this study was to provide counseling on the impact of malnutrition on toddlers and introduce the DIMASA ORBA innovation. Participants in this activity were 11 pregnant women who experienced KEK, Posyandu cadres, and community leaders. Conclusion: This activity began with a preliminary survey, conducting a Forum Discussion Group (FGD) to determine the priority of problems and interventions to be given. The implementation of the intervention was assessed by pre-test and post-test to see the effectiveness of the counseling provided. The evaluation results showed that there was an increase in knowledge in pregnant women with an average value of the pre-test results of 55.45 and the post-test results of 93.63. So it can be concluded that pregnant women understand the impact of KEK during pregnancy. We hope that pregnant women can meet their nutritional intake during pregnancy by consuming foods that are high in calories and protein, in accordance with the innovation provided, namely DIMASA ORBA, an abbreviation of chicken, carrot and spinach dimsum. Abstract

Background: The latest SSGI data in 2022 shows a stunting rate of 21.6%. This figure is still very high considering that the target for reducing stunting in 2024 is 14%. In other cases of malnutrition, namely wasting in children, has increased compared to 2021, namely 7.1% to 7.7%. (JPGI, 2023) Based on a preliminary survey on maternal and child health in Mekarjaya Village based on the 2023 Mekarwangi Health Center report, the number of children under five was 367 and as many as 128 (34.87%) toddlers experienced malnutrition problems, including stunting 63 (17.6%), wasting 16 (0.4%) and under weight 49 (13.3%). The impact of malnutrition on children will affect firstly a decrease in the child's immunity so that the child is easily sick and affected by infections, secondly a delay in growth and development, third, physical growth will be disturbed, fourth, brain development is disturbed, children have problems in emotional and behavioral turmoil and the sixth is susceptible to chronic diseases. This impact will certainly affect the quality of children's lives and will affect the quality of the nation's next generation. (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia 2023). This impact will certainly affect the quality of children's lives and will affect the quality of the nation's next generation. (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia 2023). Efforts to handle malnutrition are by providing solid foods that have a high calorie and protein content. From the results of the study, it is said that 100 gr tempeh pudding has a total energy content of 51.65 kcal compared to the pudding standard from BPOM, which is 20-40 kcal/100 gr. Tempeh pudding has a higher protein than regular pudding because the protein content is 2.80 because it contains milk as an animal protein and tempeh as a vegetable protein and so the total energy content increases. (Widiastuti, 2024) Objective: This community service aims to empower the community by increasing the knowledge of mothers under five about the impact of malnutrition and handling of malnutrition in toddlers. Methods: The method used in community service is by providing counseling on the impact of malnutrition on toddlers and the introduction of the "PUTSAL" innovation as a food innovation with a high calorie and protein content. Conclusion: Based on the results of the evaluation after being given counseling and providing innovative products "Putsal", it can be concluded that there is an increase in participants' knowledge as seen from participants who are able to answer questions about the impact that occurs on toddlers with malnutrition and how to overcome it.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer experienced by women in Indonesia after breast cancer. About 36,000 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed each year. Most cases of cervical cancer are caused by an infection with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which is transmitted through sexual intercourse. There is an HPV vaccine that can prevent this infection and reduce the risk of cervical cancer. Although Pap smear screenings are available, the participation rate in screening remains low. Only about 10% of women in Indonesia undergo Pap smear examinations regularly. Symptoms of cervical cancer often do not appear until the advanced stages. Frequently overlooked symptoms include abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, and unusual vaginal discharge. There is still a need to increase public awareness about the importance of preventing and detecting cervical cancer early. Health education programs and HPV vaccination are expected to reduce the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer. In Depok City, data from the Depok City Government published on the Official News Portal in April 2023 indicate that the number of cervical cancer cases increased from 69 cases in 2021 to 179 cases in 2022. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out health education and early detection of cervical cancer, such as the IVA Test, for women of reproductive age. By increasing public knowledge about cervical cancer and the importance of early detection, it is hoped that the incidence of cervical cancer will decrease in Depok City. The activity was carried out for 8 women. The results found that the majority of the women did not know well about cervical cancer and the IVA Test. IVA test results were found normal among all women. This activity is very helpful to educate women about cervical cancer to prevent it.
