Abstract

Structural transformation is an important topic in the literature on economic growth. Recent research identifies various paths of structural transformation in developing countries, emphasising that the key to growth is the shift of labour from agriculture to manufacturing and services. Input-output analysis of 17 sectors can identify sectors with important roles on the island of Java. The type and design of this research use a descriptive quantitative approach. The results of this study show that the key sectors are played by three sectors, namely sector 4 (electricity, gas and ice production), sector 8 (transportation and warehousing), and sector 13 (business services), because these sectors have strong backward and forward linkages. Therefore, it is important to support these key sectors as well as other economic sectors for the sustainability of Java's economic transformation, particularly in increasing the output multiplier, income multiplier, and employment opportunity multiplier, through support such as investment, both domestic investment (PMDN) and foreign investment (PMA). Furthermore, to sustain economic growth on the island of Java, support is also needed for international trade, with a focus on labour productivity and technology

Abstract

Recently, TikTok has experienced rapid growth as an entertainment platform. In addition to its entertainment features, the platform also provides an e-commerce function that enables real-time transactions and promotions. TikTok Shop has become one of the primary shopping platforms for Generation Z, particularly for fashion products. This study aims to further explore this phenomenon by examining how Brand Awareness is influenced by Social Media Marketing and to what extent both factors affect consumers’ purchase decisions on TikTok Shop. A quantitative approach was employed using regression analysis to address these objectives, involving 140 respondents, the majority of whom were active TikTok Shop users. The results reveal a clear pattern in which Brand Awareness is significantly influenced by Social Media Marketing. Furthermore, these variables were found to affect purchase decisions both independently and simultaneously. The findings highlight the importance of TikTok’s features in the context of digital marketing, such as short videos, user engagement, and influencer endorsements, which play a crucial role in enhancing brand awareness. Ultimately, in addition to increasing Brand Awareness, these components also motivate consumers to make purchase decisions

Abstract

The prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has significant implications on women's health-related quality of life (HRQoL). While the physical aspects of PCOS on HRQoL have been widely studied, studies linking psychological predictors of HRQoL among women with PCOS in Rivers State have received little investigation. Therefore, this study examines the predictive ability of psychological distress, anxiety, depression and stress on HRQoL among women diagnosed with PCOS in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study adopted cross-sectional survey design while purposive sampling technique was used to select the study population. Data were conveniently collected from 206 participants using validated scales and analyzed using multiple regression analysis to test five hypotheses which were accepted at p <.001 of significance. The results show that psychological distress, anxiety, depression and stress jointly predicted HRQoL among women diagnosed with PCOS (R2 = .777, F(4, 202) = 174.780, p<.001). Furthermore, psychological distress, R2= .748, F(1,204) = 605.644, p <.001; depression, R2 = .461, F(1,204) =174.289, p <.001; anxiety, R2 = .507, F(1,204) = 210.133, p <.001, and stress, R2 = .551, F(1,204) = 250.086, p<.001 independently predicted HRQoL among study participants. The study comes as the first among this population and sample. The study recommends government agencies, healthcare providers and other stakeholders to combine gynecological, psychological and lifestyle management strategies to support women diagnosed with PCOS in order to improve their HRQoL.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a systematic understanding of a decision-making model for material selection based on Systems Engineering Management (SEM), Multicriteria Decision Making (MCDM), and Value Engineering (VE) in road infrastructure projects in Timor Leste. Given the strategic role of road infrastructure in supporting economic growth in developing countries, appropriate material selection is a critical factor influencing cost efficiency, technical performance, and project sustainability. However, current material selection practices tend to be subjective and often fail to adequately consider multidimensional aspects such as life-cycle costs and environmental impacts. Therefore, the application of MCDM- and VE-based approaches is necessary to improve the quality and objectivity of decision-making in optimal material selection. Using a scoping review methodology, this study identifies and synthesizes existing literature on the application of SEM, MCDM, and VE in infrastructure projects, with a specific focus on material selection processes. The findings reveal that although MCDM methods such as AHP, TOPSIS, and VIKOR have been widely applied in infrastructure projects, the integration of SEM, MCDM, and VE into a structured and unified decision-making system remains limited, particularly in the context of developing countries such as Timor Leste. This gap indicates a significant opportunity to develop a more comprehensive decision-support model capable of enhancing cost efficiency, material quality, and the sustainability of infrastructure projects. From a theoretical perspective, this study contributes to the engineering management literature by strengthening the conceptual integration of SEM, MCDM, and VE in infrastructure material selection decision-making. From a practical standpoint, the findings are expected to provide a valuable foundation for the Roads Fund Infrastructure Timor Leste in developing a value-based decision model to support optimal material selection in their infrastructure projects. Future research is recommended to validate the proposed model through case studies or empirical simulations to assess its effectiveness and feasibility in real-world applications.

Abstract

The construction sector in Timor-Leste plays a vital role in supporting national development and economic growth, primarily through infrastructure projects financed by the government and international donors. However, the implementation of construction contracts in the country frequently encounters various nonconformities, such as delays, technical specification changes, differing interpretations of contract clauses, and cost overruns. These issues reflect weaknesses in contract management systems and the lack of systematic strategies to manage nonconformities during project execution. This study employs a Scoping Review approach to map globally reported strategies for managing construction contract nonconformities and to identify knowledge gaps in developing country contexts, particularly Timor-Leste. The review process follows the PRISMA-ScR guideline, encompassing literature searches in Scopus, ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis, and Google Scholar databases covering publications from 2000 to 2025. The findings reveal that management strategies for contract nonconformities can be categorized into three main groups: preventive strategies (risk prevention through clear contract design and early communication), resolutive strategies (dispute handling via claims, mediation, and dispute boards), and adaptive strategies (contract flexibility and collaborative approaches). The study highlights the importance of adapting global best practices to the local context of Timor-Leste, taking into account institutional capacity, contractual regulations, and human resource competence. The findings are expected to serve as a foundation for developing more effective contract management policies and practices within Timor-Leste’s construction sector.

Abstract

This study aims to validate the social dimension of the Village Index in supporting village tourism development using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The social dimension is essential for village tourism, as tourism activities depend on community participation, social cohesion, security, and the availability of community facilities. This research employs a quantitative confirmatory approach using secondary data derived from the Village Index. The population consists of 285 villages in Kerinci Regency, and a total sampling (census) technique is applied. The results show that the correlation between community activities and community facilities is very strong (r = 0.875), indicating a close interrelationship between social engagement and social infrastructure. These findings confirm that the social dimension of the Village Index is a valid and reliable framework for assessing social readiness in village tourism development. The study provides an empirically validated measurement model and offers policy-relevant insights for strengthening sustainable village tourism aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 8, SDG 11, and SDG 16.

Abstract

Village-based tourism plays an important role in promoting inclusive and sustainable local economic development, particularly in rural areas with strong natural and cultural potential. However, tourism development in many villages is constrained by uneven entrepreneurial capacity and limited supporting economic infrastructure. This study aims to develop and validate a tourismpreneurship measurement model based on Village Index dimensions, focusing on the economic dimension, using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The research was conducted in Kerinci Regency, Indonesia, involving 285 villages through a full sampling approach. Data were collected using structured questionnaires with a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using IBM SPSS AMOS. The economic dimension was operationalized through two latent constructs: Village Production (four indicators) and Economic Support Facilities (eight indicators). The CFA results indicate an acceptable model fit (CMIN/DF = 2.439; GFI = 0.928; RMSEA = 0.071). Village Flagship Products (λ = 0.866) and Postal and Logistics Services (λ = 0.616) emerge as the most influential indicators. The moderate correlation between constructs (r = 0.403) confirms discriminant validity. These findings support the use of the Village Index framework to strengthen tourismpreneurship and village tourism competitiveness. This study contributes theoretically by integrating tourismpreneurship within the Village Index framework and methodologically by validating a multidimensional economic model using CFA.

Abstract

Infrastructure development plays a crucial role in promoting economic growth and social welfare, particularly in developing countries such as Timor Leste. However, infrastructure projects in such contexts often face technical, managerial, and social challenges that limit their effectiveness and sustainability. One of the key issues identified is the limited integration of community participation within civil engineering management practices. This study aims to systematically map and analyze existing literature on participatory-based civil engineering management models for infrastructure development through a scoping review approach. This research adopts a qualitative scoping review methodology following established review frameworks to identify, select, and synthesize relevant peer-reviewed studies published over the past decade. Academic databases including Google Scholar, Scopus, and ScienceDirect were used to retrieve literature focusing on civil engineering management, community participation, and infrastructure development in developing countries. The selected studies were analyzed thematically to identify key trends, model components, and research gaps. The findings indicate that although community participation is widely recognized as an important factor in enhancing project relevance, sustainability, and social acceptance, its implementation within civil engineering management remains fragmented and largely confined to the planning stage. Moreover, existing models tend to emphasize technical and managerial efficiency while insufficiently integrating participatory and social dimensions. In the context of Timor Leste, these limitations are further compounded by institutional capacity constraints and post-conflict governance challenges. This study concludes that there is a critical need for a comprehensive and context-sensitive civil engineering management model that integrates technical rigor with meaningful community participation across all stages of infrastructure development. The results of this scoping review provide a conceptual foundation for future empirical research and offer practical insights for policymakers and practitioners aiming to achieve inclusive and sustainable infrastructure development in Timor Leste and similar developing country contexts.

Abstract

Sustainable procurement of goods and services is increasingly relevant in relation to green infrastructure development. The 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan emphasizes green and blue architecture development as a step towards Net Zero Emission by 2060. The Regional Medium-Term Development Plan in North Gorontalo Regency has only recently been approved and has not yet been properly integrated. Therefore, an analysis is needed to examine internal and external factors as a form of determining strategies in sustainable procurement of goods and services in North Gorontalo Regency. This study uses a mixed method, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches. The analysis tool used is SWOT to identify internal and external factors and determine the most effective strategy to use in sustainable procurement of goods and services. The findings of this study are coordinates (0.28: 0.07) located in quadrant one, meaning that the most suitable strategy to use is a progressive strategy, namely by utilizing the strengths of sustainable goods and services procurement policies and existing opportunities. There are two strategies that can be implemented, namely: 1) Utilizing the strengths of regulations and the e-procurement system to accelerate the implementation of sustainable procurement. 2) Integrating the commitment of the North Gorontalo Regency Government with opportunities for national and international program support to strengthen the market for local environmentally friendly products.

Abstract

The rapid development of financial technology (FinTech) has fundamentally transformed financial management practices across organizations and economic systems worldwide. The emergence of FinTech 4.0 characterized by the integration of artificial intelligence, big data analytics, blockchain technology, cloud computing, and open finance has shifted financial management from a traditional administrative function toward a strategic driver of efficiency, financial inclusion, and financial resilience. In recent years, increasing economic uncertainty, technological disruption, and global financial shocks have intensified the need for adaptive and resilient financial management systems. This study aims to systematically review and synthesize recent international literature on the transformation of financial management in the era of FinTech 4.0, with a particular focus on three interrelated dimensions: efficiency, financial inclusion, and financial resilience. Using a structured literature review approach, this study analyzes peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2020 and 2025 that examine the role of FinTech in reshaping financial management practices across different organizational and institutional contexts. The findings indicate that FinTech significantly enhances financial management efficiency through automation, real-time data processing, and advanced analytics. Furthermore, FinTech expands financial inclusion by reducing access barriers to financial services for individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, FinTech strengthens financial resilience by enabling proactive risk management, predictive financial planning, and adaptive decision-making during periods of economic disruption. By integrating these three dimensions within a unified analytical framework, this study contributes to the literature by offering a comprehensive understanding of FinTech-driven financial management transformation and providing insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers.
