Abstract

In Sufi literary works, symbols, metaphors, and allegories are often presented that describe the relationship between humans and God, as well as human efforts to overcome the ego (nafs), achieve wisdom, and purify the soul. This study aims to describe the character of a Salik. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with the category of library research. The data sources for this study are two novels by Candra Malik (CM), namely (1) Layla A Thousand Nights Without You and (2) Majnun Because You Meet Layla. The data used in this study are in the form of words, phrases, paragraphs, discourses that indicate the author's narrative, dialogue between characters, and setting paintings. The data collection method is a literature study. The data obtained are read, listened to, recorded, concluded, and studied written sources that serve as a theoretical basis and reference in their relationship to the object being studied. The data analysis technique in this study is phenomenological hermeneutics initiated by Paul Ricoeur. The data validity test process uses multimethod triangulation. The research results show that a spiritual seeker possesses character formed through his or her inner journey toward God. The Salik's characteristics identified in this study are humility, patience, humility, sincerity, and obedience.

Abstract

The phenomenon of making someone go viral without consent on social media has emerged as a pressing social issue, primarily linked to the violation of privacy rights. This study aims to analyze the potential conflicts arising from such practices by applying Johan Galtung’s conflict and violence theory. The research employs a qualitative library research method through the review of relevant literature. Findings reveal that viral content without consent contains complex dimensions of conflict. Based on Galtung’s Conflict Triangle (Contradiction, Attitude, Behavior), conflicts arise from the contradiction between privacy rights and freedom of expression, evolve into attitudes of mutual blame, and manifest in behaviors such as mass online shaming (cyberbullying), doxing, and even legal or social sanctions. Furthermore, the application of Galtung’s violence theory highlights the presence of direct, structural, and cultural violence that reinforce one another. The study concludes that there is an urgent need for specific regulations on digital privacy protection, the promotion of ethical digital literacy, enhanced reporting mechanisms on social media platforms, and psychosocial support services for victims. These measures are expected to foster a safer, fairer, and more humane digital space.

Abstract

The phenomenon of motorcycle gang violence in Bandung has developed into a multidimensional social conflict, rooted not only in direct acts of aggression but also in structural and cultural violence. This study analyzes the horizontal conflicts among motorcycle gangs using Johan Galtung’s violence triangle, Shaw and McKay’s social disorganization theory, and Friedrich Glasl’s conflict intervention framework. Employing Online Research Methods (ORM) and online content analysis, the research explores digital traces of gang-related violence, revealing how socioeconomic inequality, weak social cohesion, and cultural legitimization of violence contribute to the persistence of gang conflicts. The findings indicate that repressive law enforcement alone is insufficient, as conflicts have reached chronic levels of escalation. Lessons from Scotland’s Violence Reduction Unit and Costa Rica’s community-based prevention highlight the need for Indonesia to adopt a more holistic and participatory approach. The study recommends integrating law enforcement with preventive and transformative strategies, emphasizing education, youth empowerment, and community-based reconciliation to achieve sustainable conflict resolution.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) have long been central to Indonesia’s educational and cultural landscape, serving as custodians of Islamic learning and community values. However, the rise of digital education has prompted pesantren to reconsider their roles in preparing students for the demands of the 21st century. This study explores how pesantren in Makassar negotiate the integration of digital technologies while preserving their traditional functions. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis across three pesantren with varying levels of digital readiness. Thematic analysis revealed four key findings: first, pesantren exhibit different levels of digital readiness shaped by institutional resources and leadership commitment; second, teaching practices are gradually shifting toward blended pedagogies where digital tools complement traditional halaqah methods; third, challenges such as infrastructural gaps, digital literacy disparities, and cultural resistance continue to limit adoption; and fourth, pesantren are redefining their identity as hybrid institutions that combine religious tradition with technological innovation. These findings underscore that pesantren in Makassar are not merely adapting to digital transformation but actively reshaping their educational mission. Policy support, teacher training, and community collaboration are essential to ensure inclusive and context-sensitive digital integration within pesantren.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the case study model in Social Studies learning at public junior high schools in Makassar, focusing on its impact on students’ conceptual understanding. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with two teachers and 60 students, and analysis of student worksheets and reflective journals. The findings reveal that teachers applied the case study model by integrating real-life local issues, such as urban flooding and waste management, into classroom instruction. This approach successfully engaged students in active inquiry, group discussions, and reflective analysis. Students reported higher motivation and found Social Studies more relevant to their daily lives, while teachers observed improvements in students’ analytical reasoning and ability to connect abstract concepts with real-world contexts. The analysis also showed that 38% of students achieved a high level of integrated conceptual understanding, moving beyond memorization to application and evaluation. Despite challenges related to time management and unequal group participation, the benefits of case-based learning outweighed its limitations. The study concludes that the case study model aligns with the Merdeka Belajar curriculum and constructivist principles, offering an effective strategy to foster deeper learning, civic awareness, and critical thinking in Social Studies classrooms in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms and types of presuppositions in Jerome Polin's YouTube video content using sociopragmatic studies. Language not only functions as a means of communication, but also reflects social reality and relationships between individuals. In this context, presupposition is seen as a pragmatic aspect that contains implicit meanings based on shared assumptions between speakers and interlocutors. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of listening, note-taking, and bibliography. The data were taken from a video entitled "Shock.. This Girl Graduated from High School at 14, Already a Doctorate at 20! Memorized 1000 Numbers of Pi!? Jerome Speechless". The results show that in the video there are four types of presuppositions, namely existential with 2 data, lexical with 1 data, structural with 13 data, and factive with 3 data. Meanwhile, nonfactive and counterfactual presuppositions were not found. This finding indicates that presuppositions in YouTube content not only clarify messages, but also build social closeness, and demonstrate the function of language in the context of digital communication. This research shows that sociopragmatic studies have important relevance in analyzing utterances in social media such as YouTube as a form of modern discourse

Abstract

Advances in digital technology have revolutionized the maritime sector through the use of Automatic Identification Systems (AIS), artificial intelligence (AI), remote sensing, and geospatial analytics, which are increasingly important in supporting Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA). Various studies show that AIS now functions as a strategic data source for predictive analytics, risk mapping, and even detecting anomalous vessel behavior, while big data and AI drive energy efficiency, logistics optimization, and intelligent navigation systems. Various methodological innovations can enable the integration of heterogeneous data to produce more accurate ship accident risk maps, while the combination of AIS with satellite imagery strengthens the detection of illegal activities such as IUU fishing in remote areas. Furthermore, the application of machine learning and deep learning algorithms has proven effective in detecting data manipulation and abnormal navigation patterns, thus strengthening early detection and rapid response systems. For Indonesia, which has strategic shipping lanes, the integration of these technologies is highly relevant to strengthen maritime surveillance, enhance maritime security, and maintain sovereignty amidst the region's geopolitical dynamics.
