Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic disease that is a global health problem, including among teenagers. The increase in COPD cases in teenagers is also influenced by changes in modern lifestyle, such as exposure to cigarette smoke, air pollution and other unhealthy habits. Insufficient knowledge about the risks of smoking and exposure to air pollutants as well as a lack of awareness of the importance of maintaining lung health have led to an increase in the incidence of this disease at a young age. The aim of this research is to increase teenagers’ understanding of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and its prevention, so that they can understand and be able to carry it out in their daily activities. This research method uses a quantitative design using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Providing pre-test and post-test questionnaires, according to the number of participants who took part in the outreach on the Introduction and Prevention of COPD. This research was conducted in April 2024 at MTsN 1 Medan with 31 respondents. The results of this socialization showed that there was an increase in the knowledge of MTsN 1 Medan students by >80.65% after being given presentation material by the PKM team. The conclusions and suggestions given are to improve health education, healthy lifestyles, early detection, and appropriate intervention to prevent the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adolescents.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is a way for the community to be able to maintain the quality of their health. One indicator that is used as a reference is Handwashing with Soap (CTPS), because it can prevent the occurrence of diarrhea and ISPA, especially in vulnerable groups such as school-age children. However, learning about health in schools often uses inappropriate methods and media. This activity aims to increase students knowledge about washing hands with soap at UPT SDN 060831. The activity method is carried out by counseling and health education about good and correct CTPS at school. The results of this activity have been socialization and counseling to 25 students, in addition to that, handwashing with soap (CTPS) was also carried out at UPT SDN 060831. The conclusion of this activity is that students are able to practice how to wash their hands properly using soap and flowing water.

Abstract

The body's immunity is a system that works against foreign substances entering the body. The body's immunity must be well maintained so that it is not easily attacked by disease. Nurses can help people to increase their immune system by using complementary modalities. One of the complementary modalities that can be taught and is easy to do is the acupressure technique. Acupressure is a health method of applying pressure/massage to the surface of the skin which is expected to increase blood circulation, reduce tension and stress. The aim of implementing this community service is to provide education on the application of acupressure techniques to increase body immunity for students at SMK PAB-3 Medan Estate. The method used in carrying out this community service is by providing education through lectures and providing leaflets containing educational material at SMK PAB-3 Medan Estate. The targets for implementing the activities are students at SMK PAB-3 Medan Estate. The results of this community service have had a positive impact on the parties involved, especially for students at SMK PAB-3 Medan Estate. Students can increase their knowledge about the immune system in the body and how to increase the body's immunity with acupressure techniques as one of the complementary treatments. Apart from that, students can also improve their skills in increasing body immunity with acupressure techniques at points Li-4, PC6, and SP-6.

Abstract

This community service project aims to raise awareness and knowledge about health among the elderly through the GERKASA-LASAKIT program (Movement for Healthy and Disease-Aware Seniors) in Dusun 1, Tanjung Anom Village, Deli Serdang Regency. This initiative is driven by the high prevalence of degenerative diseases and the lack of accurate information regarding the prevention and management of these diseases among seniors. Through comprehensive health education, it is hoped that the elderly can improve their quality of life by adopting a healthy lifestyle and gaining a better understanding of common illnesses they may face. The methods used in this project include health education sessions, practical training on early disease detection, and physical activities tailored to the physical condition of the elderly. Health education is provided by medical professionals and public health experts. Additionally, individual consultation sessions are held to offer more personalized care for each participant. The results of this activity show an increase in health knowledge and awareness among the elderly, as evidenced by high participation and enthusiasm in each session. Seniors involved in this program have also begun adopting healthier lifestyles, such as engaging in regular light exercise and having routine health check-ups. This project has successfully built a support network among the elderly, their families, and the local community, creating a more caring and health-conscious environment. Thus, the GERKASA-LASAKIT program makes a significant contribution to improving the quality of life for the elderly in Dusun 1, Tanjung Anom Village. The sustainability of this program is expected to serve as a model for other villages in efforts to enhance the welfare and health of the elderly at the local level.

Abstract

Tuberculosis remains a health problem, especially in developing countries including Indonesia. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase public knowledge about proper coughing etiquette as an effort to prevent pulmonary TB. The implementation method includes lectures and role play. The target is 103 residents of Hamlet 1, Tanjung Anom Village. The results of this activity show that the level of knowledge about proper coughing etiquette after education improved to sufficient knowledge in 61 people (48.8%), good knowledge in 22 people (28.0%), and insufficient knowledge in 20 people (23.2%). It is concluded that there was an increase in residents' knowledge after being educated on proper coughing etiquette.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is a communicable disease which is caused by dengue virus and transmitted through the bite of Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus. The high prevalence rate of dengue hemorrhagic fever is resulted from the poor condition of physical environment and practice of mosquito nest eradication. The research objective was to know the characteristics of condition of physical environment and practice of mosquito nest eradication (referred to as PSN) toward dengue hemorrhagic fever incident in Medan, in 2024. This is an descriptive research. The population was98 households in Medan; the samples were 49 households. The data were collected through questionnaires and observations. The data analysis methods consisted of univariates. The univariate analysis results demonstrated that the dengue hemorrhagic fever cases had higher prevalence rate in August (41%) at Puskesmas PB Selayang II (43%), and had dominant attack on 3-14 year old people (39%) as well as on females (59%). It is recommended that Puskesmas and local government are expected to work togenther in implementing mosquito nest eradication program and for the community is expected to pay attention to lighting at home an water reservoirs both inside and outside the home.

Abstract

This community service program aims to raise awareness and knowledge about the importance of consuming vegetables and fruits among school children at UPT SDN 060831. Through a series of educational activities including lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on practices, the program strives to instill healthy eating habits in students. The approach employed involves enjoyable and participatory learning methods to ensure that students not only understand the nutritional benefits of vegetables and fruits but are also motivated to change their eating patterns. The results of this program show a significant increase in students' nutritional knowledge and positive changes in their vegetable and fruit consumption behavior. Additionally, this program is expected to have a long-term impact in creating a school environment that more strongly supports healthy eating habits.

Abstract

The aim of this service activity is to provide further education to the local community regarding the use of spice plants for everyday life. Apart from that, the aim of this service activity is to encourage people in Sei Limbat Village to use spice plants more as medicine. This topic was chosen because it is a topic that is rarely discussed and rarely researched in more depth regarding spice gardens. In fact, if we look deeper, spice gardens provide many benefits for life, one of which is in the health sector. The importance of discussing this topic is so that people care more about spices than chemical medicines. The method we use is by providing education and outreach to the local community.

Abstract

A company engaged in selling various herbal products, various health products and herbal cosmetics. The purpose of this research is to determine efforts to increase sales through current and future marketing strategies to be more effective and achieve maximum profits. This research is field research with qualitative descriptive methods, data and information collected through interviews, observation and documentation. The factor causing the decline in sales and not achieving the desired target is an ineffective marketing strategy. So far the marketing strategy implemented has been quite good, namely by implementing advertising, sales promotions and personal selling. However, in practice these three elements do not work according to what the company expects due to a lack of evaluation of each element, so that the results achieved are not optimal. Therefore, you should add promotional activities that are relatively cheaper and more effective, namely through advertising with larger signage media and an annual calendar as well as carrying out a more in-depth evaluation of the marketing strategy being implemented, so that a goal can be achieved, namely increasing sales.

Abstract

Processing cassava leaves into beef jerky can produce jerky with a crunchier texture and a taste similar to beef jerky. Making cassava jerky through the substitution of tapioca flour is carried out to improve quality so that jerky can be obtained as a source of protein. Apart from protein, cassava leaf jerky also contains dietary fiber so it can be used as a functional food. This service activity was carried out with the aim of optimizing the use of cassava leaves to make delicious, nutritious processed products and as a substitute for beef, which is more expensive than cassava leaves but has almost the same nutritional value. Processing cassava leaves into beef jerky is carried out in several stages of the process by adding other ingredients and spices to produce jerky with a delicious taste. Apart from being used for family consumption, this cassava leaf jerky can also be marketed so that it can increase the family's economy in the local area. This activity was carried out at the posyandu in one of the residents' houses located on Jalan Padat Karya Kalibobo, Nabire Regency. The implementation stage of this activity starts from preparation, implementation and evaluation. This service activity was successful, seen from the enthusiasm of the women during the process of processing cassava leaves into beef jerky.
