Abstract

Microplastics (<5 mm) are increasingly recognized as pervasive pollutants in urban rivers and may induce sublethal physiological stress in freshwater fish. This study assessed the impacts of microplastic contamination on cellular/hematological blood indicators in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from the Jagir River, Surabaya, Indonesia. Field sampling was conducted from July to August 2025 at three river segments (upstream near the sluice gate, midstream near fishing-vessel mooring and small-scale activities, and downstream approaching the estuarine outlet). Water was collected at each site for microplastic quantification, and tilapia were sampled three times at two-week intervals for blood analysis. In situ and laboratory assessments of water quality included temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and total suspended solids (TSS). Microplastics were detected at all sites, ranging from 2,365,333.3 to 2,541,333.3 particles/m³, with site-specific dominance of film/fiber upstream, fragment/film midstream, and fiber/fragment downstream. Water quality was relatively stable in temperature (27.7–28.8°C) and DO (5.5–5.9 mg/L), while BOD indicated organic loading (3.5–4.06 mg/L) and TSS showed clear spatial differences (8–17 mg/L). Blood profiles varied across sites: erythrocytes, hemoglobin, and hematocrit were lowest at the midstream site, whereas leukocyte counts were highest downstream, suggesting spatially heterogeneous stress and immune activation. One-way ANOVA indicated significant differences in microplastic abundance among sites (p < 0.05), and Pearson correlation results showed very strong associations between microplastic abundance and most blood parameters, supporting the use of integrated microplastic metrics, water quality indicators, and blood biomarkers for urban river monitoring prior to discharge into the Madura Strait.

Abstract

The catch is influenced by the catch rate of fishing gear. This study aims to analyze the catch composition, catch rate, frequency of fish emergence, and factors affecting the catch of iron traps in Lake Kerinci. The study was conducted from August–October 2025 with 10 fishermen on 30 fishing trips. The total catch reached 467 fish weighing 90.743 kg, dominated by tilapia at 77.74%, followed by medic fish, freshwater lobster, and climbing perch. Tilapia had the highest occurrence frequency (100%), indicating high abundance in the lake waters. The average catch rate was 30.25 kg/trip with variations between fishermen due to differences in location and water conditions. Regression analysis showed that the operating duration, number, and dimensions of the traps did not significantly affect the catch (R² = 0.10). In general, iron traps are classified as effective, selective, and environmentally friendly, thus having the potential to support sustainable capture fisheries in Lake Kerinci.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the longline fishing gear operating techniques on the KM Bahari Nusantara 35 vessel operating in the Indonesian Fisheries Management Area (WPPNRI) 573 in the Indian Ocean. The study was conducted in January–February 2024 through participant observation and semi-structured interviews during one fishing trip. The results indicate that longline fishing gear operation consists of three main stages: setting, soaking time, and hauling. The average setting time is 3 hours, soaking time is 2–3 hours, and hauling takes the longest, 10–14 hours. The fishing gear used has 1,496 hooks with a main line length of 62,832 meters. The catch was dominated by yellowfin tuna, followed by bigeye tuna and bluefin tuna. The operating techniques applied were deemed effective and appropriate to the characteristics of the fishing area's waters. This research is expected to serve as a reference in developing efficient and sustainable longline fishing gear operating techniques.

Abstract

Lake Kerinci is one of the lakes in Jambi Province that plays an important role as a fishery resource for the communities around the lake, particularly the villages of Tanjung Tanah and Sanggaran Agung. Fishing activities in both villages are carried out daily to meet household needs and the daily economic needs of fishermen. One of the fishing tools used in Lake Kerinci is the bagan tancap, which is a fishing tool made of bamboo sticks stuck into the bottom of the lake on a permanent basis. The fixed fishing rafts are operated every day, day and night, which affects the structure of the community in Lake Kerinci. The structure of the community is related to the composition, diversity, uniformity, and dominance of fish species in the waters. This study aims to determine the structure of the community caught by fixed nets, environmental parameters, and differences in catches between Tanjung Tanah Village and Sanggaran Agung Village. This study was conducted in Lake Kerinci, Kerinci Regency, Jambi Province, from May 1 to June 4, 2025. The results obtained were H` 1.09, categorized as moderate, E 0.79, categorized as high, and E 0.40, categorized as low. It can be concluded that the community structure in Lake Kerinci is still quite stable, but sustainable management is needed to preserve the ecosystem in Lake Kerinci.

Abstract

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) culture faces water quality challenges due to the accumulation of metabolic waste and uneaten feed. Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) can improve water quality, but commercial filter media are relatively expensive for small-scale farmers. Waste materials such as mussel shells, eggshells, and zeolite have potential as economical alternatives. Therefore, research is needed to evaluate the effectiveness of waste-based filter media in maintaining water quality and fish growth. This study aimed to analyze the effect of waste filter media in RAS on water quality and tilapia growth and to determine an economical alternative for small-scale farmers. A descriptive study was conducted for 28 days in Bungah Village, Gresik, using three filter media treatments. The treatments consisted of P1 (foam + mussel shell + bioball), P2 (foam + eggshell + bioball), and P3 (foam + zeolite + bioball) with a stocking density of 14 fish per aquarium. Observed parameters included pH, growth (WG, SGR), and FCR. Results showed that all treatments-maintained pH within the optimal range with minimal fluctuation. Treatments P1 and P3 produced higher growth compared to the others. FCR values in all treatments indicated good and relatively similar feed efficiency. Mussel shell and zeolite media provided more consistent biological performance. Eggshell media also maintained water quality although growth was slightly lower. Overall, waste-based filter media performed comparably to commercial filters. Waste filter media in RAS effectively maintained water quality and supported tilapia growth. Utilization of waste materials has potential as an economical alternative for small-scale farmers.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Agustus hingga September 2025. Pembuatan sampel dilakukan pada tanggal 20–31 Agustus 2025, sedangkan pengujian dilaksanakan pada 1 September 2025 di Laboratorium Departemen Pemanfaatan Sumberdaya Perikanan (PSP) Fakultas Perikanan dan Ilmu Kelautan IPB University. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis nilai kekuatan putus (breaking strength) jaring berbahan dasar serat eceng gondok (Eichhornia crassipes), menganalisis perbandingannya dengan jaring sintetis berbahan nilon serta jaring dari serat alami lainnya, dan menganalisis potensi eceng gondok sebagai bahan alternatif pembuatan jaring. Jaring yang digunakan terdiri atas 2, 4, dan 6 helai serat eceng gondok dengan diameter masing-masing 3 mm, 4 mm, dan 5 mm. Penelitian ini menggunakan tiga perlakuan dengan sepuluh ulangan yang mengacu pada SNI ISO 1805 tahun 2010. Parameter yang diamati adalah kekuatan putus. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa jaring eceng gondok dengan 6 helai serat memiliki nilai kekuatan putus tertinggi, yaitu 8,04 kgf, sedangkan jaring eceng gondok dengan 4 helai serat memiliki nilai kekuatan putus per diameter tertinggi serta efisiensi terbaik, yaitu 1,66 kgf/mm.

Abstract

Ikan mas (Cyprinus carpio) merupakan salah satu komoditas perikanan budidaya air tawar yang memiliki peran strategis dalam mendukung produksi perikanan nasional dan perekonomian masyarakat. Tingginya intensitas budidaya serta aktivitas lalu lintas ikan hidup antarwilayah meningkatkan risiko penyebaran penyakit ikan, khususnya penyakit viral yang bersifat sangat menular. Salah satu penyakit viral yang menjadi perhatian serius adalah Koi Herpes Virus (KHV), karena dapat menyebabkan tingkat mortalitas yang tinggi dan berdampak signifikan terhadap produksi, ekonomi, serta kelancaran perdagangan ikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeteksi keberadaan Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) dan menentukan tingkat prevalensinya pada komoditas ikan mas (Cyprinus carpio) yang dilalu-lintaskan di Balai Karantina Hewan, Ikan dan Tumbuhan Sulawesi Utara menggunakan metode Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR). Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif dengan pendekatan surveilans. Sampel penelitian berupa lima ekor ikan mas yang berasal dari kegiatan lalu lintas karantina. Deteksi KHV dilakukan melalui tahapan ekstraksi DNA dan amplifikasi target gen virus menggunakan metode qPCR, sedangkan tingkat prevalensi dihitung berdasarkan perbandingan jumlah sampel positif terhadap jumlah total sampel yang diperiksa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari lima sampel ikan mas yang diperiksa, satu sampel terdeteksi positif Koi Herpes Virus (KHV), sedangkan empat sampel lainnya menunjukkan hasil negatif. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, tingkat prevalensi KHV pada ikan mas yang dilalu-lintaskan di Balai Karantina Hewan, Ikan dan Tumbuhan Sulawesi Utara sebesar 20%. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa meskipun sebagian besar ikan yang dilalu-lintaskan berada dalam kondisi negatif KHV, potensi masuk dan tersebarnya virus melalui lalu lintas ikan masih tetap ada. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode Real Time PCR (qPCR) efektif digunakan sebagai metode deteksi dini Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) karena memiliki sensitivitas dan spesifisitas yang tinggi. Keberadaan KHV pada sebagian sampel ikan mas yang dilalu-lintaskan menegaskan pentingnya penguatan pengawasan karantina ikan serta pelaksanaan pemeriksaan laboratorium secara konsisten sebagai upaya pencegahan penyebaran penyakit ikan ke wilayah lain, sebagaimana direkomendasikan dalam sistem karantina ikan nasional.

Abstract

Manajemen perbekalan merupakan komponen vital dalam operasi kapal hand line yang beroperasi selama 10–20 hari di laut karena berpengaruh langsung terhadap efisiensi biaya dan mutu hasil tangkapan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis sistem manajemen perbekalan kapal hand line di PPS Bungus yang meliputi tahap pengadaan, penyimpanan, pemeliharaan, dan pengendalian, serta mengidentifikasi kendala yang dihadapi nelayan. Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif melalui observasi dan wawancara purposive terhadap nakhoda, ABK, pemilik kapal, petugas pelabuhan, dan pemasok logistik pada Oktober–Desember 2023. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem manajemen perbekalan telah berjalan cukup terstruktur; pengadaan dilakukan berdasarkan estimasi lama trip dan jumlah ABK dengan biaya rata-rata Rp25–30 juta per trip untuk kapal 24–30 GT, penyimpanan dilakukan melalui pengelompokan muatan basah, kering, dan enak/bagus, pemeliharaan dilakukan dengan perlindungan es balok, pengawasan air bersih, dan pembagian konsumsi terukur, serta pengendalian melalui pencatatan harian, pembatasan bahan high-demand, dan evaluasi sisa perbekalan. Kendala utama meliputi keterbatasan ruang kapal kecil dan belum adanya standar kebutuhan baku berbasis GT dan durasi operasi. Secara umum, manajemen perbekalan tergolong baik namun masih berbasis pengalaman nakhoda sehingga diperlukan standar kebutuhan dan sistem pencatatan logistik yang lebih sistematis untuk meningkatkan efisiensi dan akurasi perencanaan.

Abstract

Sebagai komoditas air tawar, ikan patin (Pangasius hypophthalmus) memiliki nilai jual yang cukup tinggi sehingga layak untuk dikembangkan. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dosis optimal ekstrak buah mengkudu untuk sintasan dan pertumbuhan benih ikan patin yang diaplikasikan ke dalam pakan komersial. Dalam usaha budidaya, pakan memegang peranan penting sebagai penentu keberhasilan pertumbuhan ikan. Ikan patin yang digunakan berukuran 8-10 cm. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Dimana P1 (tanpa pemberian ekstrak mengkudu), P2 (pemberaian ekstrak mengkudu 5 ml/kg pakan), P3 (pemberian ekstrak mengkudu 10 ml/kg pakan) dan P4 (pemberian ekstrak mengkudu 15 ml/kg pakan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sintasan terbaik berada pada P3 (86,66%), pertumbuhan bobot mutlak terbaik berada pada P3 (4,80g), pertumbuhan panjang mutlak terbaik berada pada P2 (1,04 cm), laju pertumbuhan harian terbaik berada pada P3 (1,64%) dan rasio konversi pakan terbaik berada pada P3 (2,10%).
