Abstract

By showing their musical achievements in concerts, auditions, competitions and the like, music students are not only executing notes, but they are exhibiting their aspirations and exposing their affective dimension. Many times, their personal dreams, as well as their own professional future are put at a stake with the resulting social and affective consequences. This represents a great responsibility for teachers since, as educators, they must provide their students with the necessary tools to succeed in their endeavor. In this essay, the author provides an overview on different music practice strategies whose effectiveness have been tested in rigorous research studies or proved by experienced teachers. The author expects they may be helpful to teachers and students to overcome the musical challenges the learning of music and its public performance entails.

Abstract

This paper explored the fundamental theoretical aspects involved in creating a comprehensive teaching module tailored for undergraduate students in China, with a specific emphasis on Chinese ancient poetry art songs. The process of constructing an effective teaching module was intricate, demanding a thorough exploration of various models and educational theories that laid the foundation for its development. The paper offered an overview of the theoretical framework employed in this undertaking, incorporating the ADDIE Model and key educational theories such as Jean Piaget's Constructivist Theory, Lev Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory, and Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences. The ADDIE Model provided a structured approach to module development, guiding the systematic design, implementation, and evaluation phases to ensure that teaching materials were well-organized, efficient, and adaptable to diverse learning environments. Furthermore, the paper delved into the educational theories influencing the design of the teaching module. Piaget's Constructivist Theory emphasized active learning through hands-on experiences, Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory underscored the role of social interaction and cultural context in learning, emphasizing collaborative learning experiences, and Gardner's Multiple Intelligences theory recognized the diversity of students' cognitive strengths, emphasizing the need for varied instructional strategies to cater to different learning styles. Through the integration of these theoretical foundations, this research aimed to develop a comprehensive, engaging, and effective educational resource tailored to the unique needs and learning preferences of students. The anticipated outcome of the teaching module was to enable educators to cultivate a greater understanding and appreciation of Chinese ancient poetry art songs among students.

Abstract

Kecemasan merupakan kondisi umum yang sering terjadi pada kondisi sosial. Cemas pada anak muncul karena disebabkan oleh adanya tekanan atau gangguan yang tidak menyenangkan. Tujuan dari Penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui efektivitas dari terapi musik klasik terhadap perubahan kecemasan pada anak. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Desain penelitian ini adalah Pra-Eksperimental dengan menggunakan pendekatan metode One Group pre-post test design. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 15 siswa. Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner serta menggunakan uji statistik Paired Sample t Test yang dibantu oleh SPSS 25. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat stress sebelum dilakukan terapi musik klasik rata-rata termasuk ke dalam kategori kecemasan sedang yaitu 66.47. Setelah dilakukan terapi musik klasik rata-rata tingkat kecemasan mengalami penurunan menjadi 59.60. Berdasarkan dari hasil uji Paired Sample t Test menunjukkan bahwa nilai p value 0.000 < α 0.05 sehingga Ha diterima. Kesimpulannya terdapat pengaruh dari pemberian terapi musik klasik terhadap perubahan tingkat kecemasan pada anak sekolah.

Abstract

The need for creativity in music refers to an idea of novelty such as a new work, a new method, or a new technique. Especially music in an integrated performing art, musical drama for example. Communication between the director and music director is one part of interpersonal intelligence which must be able to understand each other and benefit both parties. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research to find out how musical creativity develops through think-pair-share type cooperative models This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type using the Miles and Huberman analysis model, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The object in this study is interpersonal intelligence and musical creativity. The subject of this study was determined by purpossive sampling technique with criteria for participating in musical drama courses in 2023 consisting of 12 people. Data collection is carried out using techniques in depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation of works so that they will be validated using triangulation techniques. The results of this study explain that musical creativity will emerge in line with the situation needed in drama, including collaboration between modern music with tambourine and gambus, modern music with gamelan and ethnic flute. In addition, this think-pair-share type cooperative model allows students to better understand each other and process music in accordance with existing human resources.

Abstract

This study investigates the transformative role of urban music, particularly Hip-Hop, in addressing moral values within the Papuan context. Young Papuan musicians utilize Hip-Hop as a medium for social critique and cultural expression, embedding themes such as justice, environmental stewardship, and resilience in their lyrics. Employing a qualitative approach, the research analyzed song lyrics, performances, and social media content from members of the Bhuyaka Art Center, complemented by in-depth interviews. The findings reveal that Papuan Hip-Hop artists effectively navigate global influences while maintaining cultural authenticity, using music to critique systemic injustices and celebrate local heritage. Notably, the integration of local linguistic elements underscores its role in preserving cultural identity amidst globalization. The study highlights the genre's dual function as an expressive art form and a tool for advocacy, bridging local and global narratives. This research contributes to the discourse on urban music as a catalyst for cultural preservation and moral discourse, emphasizing its potential in fostering societal change and empowering marginalized communities

Abstract

Permasalahan kesehatan mental mulai marak pada tahun-tahun terakhir, salah satu bentuk media yang dipakai sebagai tempat menyampaikan diskusi mengenai kesehatan mental adalah melalui musik. Twenty One Pilots merupakan artis yang seringkali menulis karya musik berisikan referensi kesehatan mental. Pada 6 album Twenty One Pilots, dilihat apakah ada peningkatan atau penurunan dalam frekuensi referensi kesehatan mental. Digunakan metode penelitian analisis isi dengan dua koder dan data dianalisis menggunakan uji analisis deskriptif untuk menghitung frekuensi referensi keseluruhan dan One-Way ANOVA untuk melihat ada atau tidaknya hubungan signifikan pada kedua variabel, analisis dilaksanakan pada perangkat lunak JASP. Ditemukan bahwa ada hubungan signifikan antara tahun rilis album Twenty One Pilots dengan frekuensi referensi kesehatan, walaupun tren tidak linear.

Abstract

Tujuan riset ini yaitu menganalisis culture experience pada Etnik Karo dalam menggunakan alat musik gendnag lima Sendalanen. Gendang Lima Sendalanen adalah ansambel musik yang digunakan dalam berbagai upacara adat Karo seperti pernikahan, kematian, guro-guro aron, dan memasuki rumah adat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode gabungan (mix method) dengan menggunakan tipe kombinasi beturutan (sequential) dan model kombinasi campuran tidak berimbang (Concurrent Embedded Design). Data kualitatif digunakan untuk menganalisis culture experience generasi Karo, penyebab memudarnya penggunaan Gendang Lima Sendalanen, dan strategi optimalisasinya. Sedangkan data kuantitatif diperlukan untuk menemukan persentase culture experience generasi Karo dalam menggunakan alat musik Gendang Lima Sendalanen. Hasil riset menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Culture experience Etnik Karo dalam menggunakan alat musik tradisional Gendang Lima Sendalanen adalah dengan memainkan, membuat alat musik, mendapatkan pengajaran dari orangtua dan komunitas, mendapatkan pelatihan (ekstra kurikuler) dari sekolah, ikut serta dalam pertunjukan budaya dan acara adat; (2) Faktor-faktor penyebab memudarnya penggunaan Gendang Lima Sendalanen karena faktor ekonomi, kurangnya pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai makna, minimnya ahli (expert) musik tradisional khususnya Gendang Lima Sendalanen, masuknya politic bible yang menilai negatif masyarakat menggunakan Gendang Lima Sendalanen; (3) Strategi optimalisasi culture experience melalui pengrajin/pemain musik Gendang Lima Sendalanen, komunitas, dan ekstrakurikuler musik tradisional disekolah. Keseluruhan riset berkontribusi dalam upaya pemajuan kebudayaan dan solusi atas upaya pewarisan budaya.

Abstract

This study aims to elaborate on The Beatles band through a study of one of its songs called Yellow Submarine. This study uses the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach, an approach that aims to describe, interpret, and critically explain in a qualitative manner about how discourse builds, maintains, and legitimizes social inequalities. A number of relevant primary and secondary literatures were studied and analyzed critically to understand and recognize the process of creating, producing, broadcasting, concert performance, and public reception for the song Yellow Submarine by the Beatles and its socio-cultural context. The results of the study showed that this song was dedicated to children who lost the joy and delight of their childhood due to ideological conflicts (capitalism-communism), social tensions, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, drugs, etc., in the 1960s. Although this song has been associated with various interpretations, ranging from drugs, money, war, peace, cowardice to death, most of The Beatles’ fans and observers believe there is an element of joy and delight that they would like to present to their children. They gave joy and delight, especially to children, when the state failed to provide them.

Abstract

Researchers have continued to urge the importance of strengthening students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) as a key factor for education. Researchers in the field of music education are actively advocating for the enhancement of HOTS among students. To advance research in this area, a thorough and comprehensive literature review is necessary. This review synthesized existing findings to elucidate how HOTS can enhance musical education and performance and offer insights into effective pedagogical strategies. By systematically examining the integration of HOTS in musical contexts, pointing out gaps in research, the study contributed to advancing educational practices and theoretical understanding in this domain. Furthermore, offers insights that can inform the development of future research on HOTS in music teaching and learning.

Abstract

Mang Koko adalah seniman pembaharu karawitan Sunda. Karya-karyanya memiliki identitas yang khas. Identitas tersebut lahir dari akumulasi latar belakang keluarga, lingkungan masyarakat, pendidikan, dan kebudayaan. Lagu yang disusunnya banyak yang terinspirasi dari fenomena masyarakat Sunda. Kiranya dalam konteks ini, masyarakat merupakan embrio imajinasi Mang Koko dalam berkarya. Terlihat dari penggunaan lirik lagu yang mengetengahkan isu-isu masyarakat Sunda kala itu. Tujuan dari tulisan ini adalah menguraikan karya lagu Mang Koko yang mengangkat masyarakat sebagai pusat inspirasinya. Pengumpulan data terpusat pada observasi, wawancara, studi literatur, dan studi dokumentasi. Data berbasis teks tersebut kembali dibaca dan ditafsirkan menggunakan teknik analisis konten. Dua lagu yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini, yaitu Badminton dan Guntur Galunggung, menunjukkan bagaimana Mang Koko merespon fenomena kemasyarakatan yang terjadi pada masanya. Masyarakat tidak hanya menjadi komunitas tempat seniman tinggal, ia merupakan gudang ide yang dinamis sebagai stimulus untuk menghadirkan produk ekspresi lanjutan.
