Abstract

Every child, regardless of their unique circumstances, is entitled to an education. Education has the potential to help children with special needs develop their skills and capabilities. Therefore, it is crucial to have an inclusive education that addresses the needs of children with special needs to reveal their talents and promote independence. This media aims to investigate the types of interactions that can enhance the teaching and learning experience for students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, particularly in understanding colors. The approach used involves Participatory Design and Participatory Action Research, where both teachers and students participate actively. This method begins with identifying needs, collecting data, conducting trials and assessments, prototyping, collaborating, making revisions, implementing, and finally performing follow-up evaluations. The goal is to create an engaging medium that improves the fine motor skills of students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities by introducing them to the colors of a rainbow. The activities in this workbook focus on individually recognizing colors without distractions to help maintain attention. After that, students will identify colors by spelling their names that correspond to the colors displayed. This is further supported by highlighting the letters according to the colors, which helps develop fine motor skills through writing. The next task involves matching images with colors. Finally, a color-sorting exercise is conducted based on shape and color. This cycle is repeated over three consecutive days to allow students to observe and understand the colors in their environment as related to those in the rainbow. Through these activities, students with mild intellectual disabilities can name colors and memorize the order of the rainbow to identify colors around them. For students with moderate intellectual disabilities, this activity helps them recognize and name nearby colors using the rainbow colors, with support and guidance from teachers.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the use of bitter melon leaves as an ecoprint motif using the ecoprint technique assisted by mordants and fixatives. The purpose of this study is to see the name of the color, the clarity of the shape of the motif, and the resistance of color fade to washing with alum mordants, betel lime, and tunjung. This research is an experimental research with the object of research - namely, Armani silk material produced by bitter melon leaf ecoprint using alum mordant, betel lime, and tunjung. The type of data is in the form of primary data with a data collection technique using filling in an instrument in the form of a questionnaire. Data analysis techniques with Friedman K-Related test using SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) version 29.0 program. The result of the ecoprint color name uses bitter melon leaves on Armani silk material with alum mordant producing olive color, betel lime mordant producing camouflage green color, and tunjung producing dark olive green color. The result of the clarity of the shape of the leaf motif on the mordant of alum, betel lime, and tunjung produces a clear clarity of the shape of the motif, which means that the shape of the leaf (leaf flesh, base of the leaf, and edge of the leaf) is clear on the material of Armani silk. The color fading resistance to washing as a result of applying bitter melon leaf ecoprint motifs on Armani silk materials using alum mordant, betel lime, and tunjung in washing the three colors was slightly reduced.

Abstract

The Helen Joseph Armstrong raglan sleeve pattern is widely used in garment making, but it is not yet fully suitable for the body proportions of ideal adult Indonesian women. This misfit can result in discomfort and aesthetic issues in clothing, which necessitates research to analyze the weaknesses and make pattern adjustments. This study aims to identify weaknesses, make improvements, and evaluate the fit of the raglan sleeve pattern for women with a height of 165 cm and weight of 53 kg, in accordance with the Body Mass Index (BMI) classification for adult Asians. The research method uses an applied approach, with a Likert scale-based assessment format and descriptive statistical analysis. The evaluation focuses on indicators such as sleeve length, peak arm height, midline of the arm, shoulder slope, raglan line, bicep, elbow line, and sleeve cuff circumference by four panelists. The results show that in the first fitting, the average pattern fit was only 63%, categorized as fairly suitable. Several weaknesses were identified, such as a backward shoulder line, raised raglan line, and overly large biceps. Adjustments were made by modifying the shoulder line, lowering the raglan line, reducing bicep size, and adjusting the sleeve cuff circumference. In the second fitting, the pattern fit increased to 86%, categorized as very high. These results indicate that pattern adjustments are essential to achieving optimal fit for ideal adult Indonesian women, thereby improving both comfort and aesthetic appearance in clothing.

Abstract

Interactive media in the learning and playing process is an important means to attract students interest. Providing interactive media that suits children's needs in the learning process determines success in their learning. Batik with the fable theme of the Swan and Turtle as interactive media contains a moral message, especially for mentally retarded children. The creation of this interactive media aims to complement previous studies which rarely create non-multimedia interactive media that can stimulate the sense of touch of mentally retarded children. The practical method of creating this work, the creation of Practice Based Research, practice-based research is very appropriate to use in the creation process, because in this process it produces a way in which practice can produce knowledge in research that grows in creating the work. One of the main characteristics of this research is creating and reflecting on new work through practical research carried out. The results of this creation are in the form of batik interactive media with learning fable stories of Swans and Turtles using written batik techniques in the process of realising visually appealing illustrations of fable stories, interesting interactive media not only to stimulate sensory, fine motor and train concentration, but from interactive media it also teaches manners that contain character values and preserve batik as a cultural heritage and not only as a fashion product.

Abstract

The appropriate use of learning media can significantly influence students' motivation and learning outcomes. However, in the process of teaching visual arts, several issues often arise, such as: (1) students easily become bored because the learning media used are still conventional, such as black-and-white textbooks; (2) the delivery of material by teachers is less effective, resulting in students not fully understanding the material taught; (3) limited time for delivering both theoretical and practical aspects of art-making; and (4) a lack of innovation in the use of learning media by teachers. Therefore, selecting appropriate learning media is crucial to support the success of the teaching and learning process. This study aims to complement previous research that has been limited in reviewing literature related to the effectiveness of audio-visual learning media, particularly in visual arts subjects focusing on decorative motifs and the application of media in creative work. This research uses a literature review method by searching for scientific articles published between 2016 and 2024 via Google Scholar. The analysis in this study applies the PRISMA framework, which includes title, abstract, introduction, method, results, discussion, and conclusion. The findings of this study show that audio-visual media successfully increase students’ motivation and learning outcomes, attract their interest in learning, and provide new experiences in the learning process, especially considering that they were previously more accustomed to conventional media such as textbooks. The author discovered alternative media for creating decorative motif artworks using the batik technique, including dried banana leaves, lantung bark, teak wood, sengon wood, munggur wood, and klepu wood. This paper is expected to contribute new knowledge for teachers by offering references for creating decorative motif artworks through other creative media.

Abstract

The transformation of traditional women's wedding attire in Pesisir Selatan Regency is influenced by the evolution of time, technology, and fashion trends. This shift affects clothing arrangements, design, and aesthetic values. If not properly documented, there is a concern that future generations may lose their cultural identity in traditional wedding attire. Therefore, this study aims to describe the changes in clothing arrangements, design, and aesthetic values of traditional women's wedding attire in Pesisir Selatan Regency. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method and was conducted from July 30, 2023, to November 2024, using both primary and secondary data. The analysis is conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity is ensured through triangulation, peer examination, and auditing. The findings reveal significant changes: the baju kurungbasiba has transitioned into a baju kurung pas badan, the sarungsongketbalapak has been replaced with fabric matching the attire, and the tokah, originally a long shawl, has become more practical. Accessories such as sunting and jewelry have also undergone modernization. In terms of design, there have been transformations in silhouette, color, material, motifs, and decorative techniques. These changes reflect an adaptation to fashion trends but may also diminish cultural authenticity. Efforts toward preservation are necessary to ensure that cultural values remain intact.

Abstract

This research examines the characteristics of students' calligraphy artwork at the LEMKA Arabic Calligraphy Islamic Boarding School, Sukabumi, as a result of applied art education. The gap phenomenon found is that there are differences in approaches to calligraphy art education, where some teachers adhere to traditional rules, while others open up space for exploration of contemporary styles. This causes variations in the characteristics of students' work, which have not been widely investigated in previous studies. This research fills the research gap by specifically examining how the curriculum at the LEMKA Islamic Boarding School is reflected in the students' work. Previous studies focused more on aspects of learning management and Islamic boarding school existence strategies, without exploring the relationship between education and the aesthetic characteristics of students' work. The research method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of the students' works. The analysis technique is carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions based on aesthetic patterns and Islamic values. The research results show that the work of students at the LEMKA Islamic Boarding School can be classified into four main categories: manuscript calligraphy, manuscript decoration, decoration, and contemporary. Each category reflects the integration of Islamic aesthetics and freedom of expression with variations in the use of khat, colors and decorative elements. This research proves that the characteristics of LEMKA students' calligraphy artwork are based on 2 inseparable aesthetic concepts, namely essential aesthetics and material aesthetics.

Abstract

The history of Mengwitani Village provides a context for understanding corruption in Bali. Despite progress, corruption persists due to power struggles, lack of transparency, and low accountability. The case of the former Village Head who was caught in a Village Fund corruption scandal illustrates how violations can occur even at the local government level, undermining public trust. Corruption, rooted in historical vulnerabilities, has become a means to maintain power and wealth at the expense of the community. In response, the Mengwitani Village Head created Anti-Corruption posters that were published on the village's official website. The purpose of hermeneutical research on the anti-corruption campaign posters in Mengwitani Village is to interpret the meaning contained in the posters, reveal the anti-corruption messages they want to convey, and understand how anti-corruption values are communicated visually to the people of Mengwitani Village. Analyzing this campaign using Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic approach provides a comprehensive perspective. The method used is a qualitative descriptive research method. Examining the visual structure reveals symbolic elements, such as the depiction of evil figures, which are used to emphasize violations of law and ethics. The hermeneutic approach helps reveal the deeper message of the posters: changing public perception to prevent corruption. The main targets are the community and the State Civil Apparatus (ASN), whose responses shape the effectiveness of the campaign. Understanding the industrial context highlights the advertisement as a complex cultural artifact with significant social and political implications. Ricoeur's analysis not only deciphers the poster's message but also explores its broader meaning in the socio-political landscape of Mengwitani Village.

Abstract

Local history and culture significantly contribute to the formation of collective identity and serve as a means of education to preserve ancestral heritage. Rokan Palace, embodying Malay culture in Rokan Hulu Regency, holds immense historical and cultural significance. However, the younger generation exhibits a diminished interest and lack of concern for preserving these historical and cultural values. This challenge necessitates a creative approach. This study employs motion graphic media as an innovative medium to present history in an interactive, engaging, and relevant manner to the digital era. The design methodology employed adheres to the historical approach, encompassing four primary stages: heuristics, external and internal criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The outcomes of this study present motion graphic media as a visual education approach for conveying the history of Rokan Palace. This design has undergone feedback from respondents, demonstrating its effectiveness in conveying history to the younger generation and contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage.
