Core Subject : Education,
Journal of Action Research in Education (JARE) is concerned with exploring the dialogue between research and practice in educational settings. The considerable increase in interest in action research in recent years has been accompanied by the development of a number of different approaches: for example, to promote reflective practice; professional development; empowerment; understanding of tacit professional knowledge; curriculum development; individual, institutional and community change; and development of democratic management and administration. Proponents of all these share the common aim of ending the dislocation of research from practice, an aim which links them with those involved in participatory research and action inquiry. This journal publishes accounts of a range of action research and related studies, in education and across the professions, with the aim of making their outcomes widely available and exemplifying the variety of possible styles of reporting. It aims to establish and maintain a review of the literature of action research. It also provides a forum for dialogue on the methodological and epistemological issues, enabling different approaches to be subjected to critical reflection and analysis.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the factors that cause students to be less active in learning mathematics and to find out whether there is an increase in student involvement after implementing the game method accompanied by giving rewards in the form of praise or physical forms in mathematics subjects. The research was conducted in class IV at SDN Nyormanis 2 using the classroom action research method. This method was implemented through cycles 1 and cycle 2. In cycle 1 the researchers used the quiz game method which was carried out in groups and accompanied by rewards in the form of praise and applause. Meanwhile, in cycle 2 the researchers used the quiz game method but individually and accompanied by giving rewards in the form of snacks. Each cycle found an increase in student involvement in the learning process after giving rewards. The percentage of activeness in cycle I increased compared to the pre-cycle, then the percentage of activeness in cycle II increased compared to cycle I. The factor causing students to be inactive in learning was students' lack of motivation towards the learning process. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of game methods with rewards is effective in increasing student involvement in mathematics subjects.

Abstract

This study examines the interest and understanding of students' literacy in learning the Indonesian language in schools. The aim of improving students' literacy in learning the Indonesian language is to enhance students' interest and understanding of reading and writing literacy, especially in Indonesian language learning. The design of this paper uses qualitative research, and the method used in this research is descriptive method, which will examine and describe how reading and writing literacy can affect students in Indonesian language learning. The subjects in this study focus on students of grade IV and teachers as homeroom teachers of grade IV at SDN Telang 2. The results of this study indicate a lack of interest and understanding of students in literacy in Indonesian language learning. Teachers choose to use the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model in Indonesian language learning to improve students' understanding of literacy.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out what factors cause students to be less interested in learning literacy and to find out whether there is an increase in student literacy when learning Indonesian using the storytelling method. This research was carried out in class 5 at SDN Nyormanis 2 using the classroom action research method. This method is implemented through cycle I and cycle II. Cycle I was carried out by giving a test without any action, in cycle II before being given the test the researcher carried out an action where the researcher told a short story, explained the material using the storytelling method, then the researcher gave the test. In the first cycle, it was discovered that there were still students who got lower grades. In cycle II, it is known that students get increased grades. Based on field conditions, the internal factor causing the low literacy interest of students at SDN Nyormanis 02 class V is the students' low reading ability. Lack of parental awareness of the importance of education for children. It can be concluded that the storytelling method is effective in improving students' literacy skills in Indonesian language subjects.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the learning outcomes of science, specifically regarding changes in the state of matter, and the learning activities of fourth-grade students at Tanjung Jati 2 State Elementary School through the implementation of the STAD cooperative learning model. The study concludes that the percentage of mastery obtained through individual and classical completeness with the application of the STAD cooperative learning model, before intervention, was 42%. In the first cycle, it increased to 65%, and in the second cycle, the improvement reached 80%. It can be concluded that the use of the STAD cooperative learning model (Student Teams Achievement Division) effectively enhances motivation and science learning outcomes, particularly in the topic of changes in the state of matter, reaching up to 80%.

Abstract

This research is motivated by observational data that shows students' learning activity in IPAS material is very low. To respond to that, the researcher conducted a classroom action research aimed at improving students' learning activity. The objectives to be achieved in this research include: (1) To determine the improvement of students' engagement in learning through the use of lecture method, (2) To determine the improvement of students' engagement in the learning process through the use of cooperative learning model, specifically Teams Games Tournament (TGT). This research is a classroom action research. This research was conducted in class IVB with a total of 32 students, consisting of 17 male students and 15 female students. The research was conducted in 2 cycles, and the results showed an improvement in effectiveness in the second cycle. The change occurred because in the second cycle, students were more engaged in working together with their group, so there was less opportunity to discuss with other groups. This research measures several student learning skills, namely: questioning skills, answering skills, discussing skills, and group learning skills. The research findings show improvement in each domain in each cycle. The selection of this learning model is highly suitable and can enhance students' engagement in learning because in this learning model, students are not just passive listeners during the lesson, but they actively participate, think, learn, and compete among groups. This makes students challenged to win the competition and become active in learning.

Abstract

The research aimed at enhancing student engagement in mathematics lessons at Class 1 of SDN Tanjung Jati 2 during the 2023/2024 academic year through the use of learning media. The subjects of the study were 12 students from Class 1 of SDN Tanjung Jati 2. The research employed both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. The findings showed that in Cycle 1, student engagement reached 70%, while in Cycle 2, it increased to 85%. The increased engagement was reflected in several indicators, including students' attention to material explanations, their willingness to ask questions, their participation in listening to material explanations, and their readiness to complete tasks assigned by the teacher. This discovery indicates that the learning media used in the study successfully enhanced student engagement in mathematics lessons at Class 1 of SDN Tanjung Jati 2.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low creative thinking ability of students in elementary science learning, the learning tends to be boring, and orientation on the ability of teachers who only teach knowledge, not on analytical, synthetic, and creative abilities. Based on this background, this study aims to improve students' creative thinking skills in elementary science learning. The type of research used in this research is Classroom Action Research with the Kemmis and Mc Taggart model which consists of several stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data analysis technique is descriptive qualitative using the percentage technique. and the determined success criteria is the score exceeds > 75%. The results of this study indicate an increase in creative thinking skills from the pre-cycle results of 40% with the category increasing in the first cycle, namely 70% and the final result increasing by 100%.

Abstract

This article discusses efforts to increase the effectiveness of science and social learning through the use of video learning media at SDN Socah 2. Research was conducted using descriptive qualitative methods and shows that video learning media has a positive impact on some students, but does not have much of an impact on other students. Factors such as learning style, involvement in the learning process, motivation, interests, and learning environment also influence student learning outcomes. The use of video learning media can increase students' interest and understanding of the subject matter. The combination of complex learning strategies, an active teacher role, and attractive video design can increase learning effectiveness. This research provides a potential solution to improve student learning outcomes through the use of video learning media by paying attention to variations in student learning styles and their involvement in the learning process.
