Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease and a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, often referred to as a "silent killer" due to its asymptomatic nature. Its prevalence in Indonesia is increasing, reaching 34.1% among individuals aged 18 years and over in 2018. Traditional herbal medicine can treat degenerative diseases, but its use is still limited due to inadequate public knowledge. This community service program aims to provide education about hypertension and the use of traditional herbal medicine in Dusun Beji, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The program includes health education, blood pressure checks, and promotion of herbal medicine for hypertension management. A total of 34 participants (85% attendance) attended the session, with 26 completing pretest and posttest questionnaires to evaluate increased knowledge. The majority of participants were elderly (?61 years, 50%) and female (69.2%), with 69.2% showing abnormal blood pressure levels. Educational materials, including presentations and brochures, were provided along with live demonstrations of herbal preparations. Post-test results showed a slight increase in mean score from 7.73 to 7.88, with increased homogeneity of data and an increase in median from 7 to 8. Although paired t-test showed no statistically significant difference (P=0.885), descriptive analysis showed an increase in understanding and awareness. Active participation during the discussion, especially regarding herbal preparations, reflected the community's interest in adopting alternative approaches to hypertension management. This initiative has succeeded in increasing awareness of hypertension and the benefits of herbal medicines to effectively manage the chronic disease and its complications.

The IPC activity of the Faculty of Health which targeted the PHBS problem in Mr. S's family succeeded in improving the evaluation of the implementation of PHBS in the household environment, with a focus on education. The main problems identified were the smoking habits of family members, lack of understanding of the use of first aid kits, and education related to menopause. The intervention program succeeded in increasing family understanding through education, promotional media such as leaflets and posters, and direct training. The evaluation results showed an increase in knowledge of PHBS with a pretest measurement of 77.77 to 100 after education from the IPC team of the Faculty of Health.

Abstract

School Committee Empowerment in Wonosobo Regency is an initiative designed to enhance the strategic role of school committees in education management. School committees in Wonosobo Regency face several problems such as a lack of understanding of their functions and responsibilities, as well as minimal involvement in decision-making related to education policies. The target of this community service involves 35 representatives from junior high school/Islamic junior high school committees in Wonosobo Regency. Through this empowerment program, it is hoped that school committee representatives will gain the knowledge and skills needed to improve the effectiveness of education management in their respective institutions. This community service uses a participatory approach by combining Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and Sharing Best Practices sessions. This program focuses on capacity building through training, collaboration, and innovation to improve the effectiveness of school committees in supporting schools. The results of the study showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of their responsibilities and active involvement in strategic decision-making, especially related to curriculum development and improving school facilities. This program also strengthens the relationship between schools, parents, and the community, creating a solid network to support a more conducive learning environment. Participant feedback confirms that relevant and applicable training not only increases knowledge, but also builds confidence and collaboration skills. This Community Service has a positive impact on the quality of education by encouraging inclusive decision-making, strengthening school accountability, promoting innovation in teaching methods, and increasing student motivation and achievement. This program is a model that can be applied in other areas to empower school committees, while supporting the creation of a more inclusive, sustainable, and community-oriented education system.

Abstract

A child can be defined as a human being under the age of 18, including an unborn child. All aspects of a child's needs are heavily dependent on their parents, particularly their mother. This includes basic needs such as nutrition, affection during growth and development stages, and guidance on parenting, all of which are primarily provided by the mother. During the growth and development stages, children are vulnerable to various illnesses, including fever, cough, cold, diarrhea, itchiness, and rashes. As a result, mothers need to be able to provide self-medication or swamedikasi. This community service program aims to enhance the knowledge and understanding of mothers, specifically those of KB Aisyiah 1 Kudus, in providing self-medication for their children. The program consists of several stages, including obtaining permits, distributing pre-test questionnaires, presenting materials, and concluding with post-test questionnaires. The program's evaluation is based on the analysis of the pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The community service program lasted for approximately four days, with participants comprising mothers of KB Aisyiah 1 Kudus students. The prevalence of participants' ages ranged from 25-30 years, with most having more than one child and being housewives (seven participants). The program resulted in a significant increase in the average pre-test and post-test scores, with a 57.14% improvement. This indicates that the program has successfully enhanced the mothers' knowledge and understanding of self-medication.

Abstract

Background: Iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) is a significant health problem among adolescents, especially in Indonesia. The prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in children in Indonesia reached 28.1% according to Riskesdas in 2018. Low knowledge and inadequate iron intake are the main factors causing this anemia. This can have an impact on their health and learning ability. Anemia in adolescent girls can cause fatigue, decreased concentration, and impaired growth and development. Health education plays an important role in improving schoolgirls' knowledge about anemia, the importance of iron, and how to take Fe tablets correctly. Objective: This community service aims to analyze the effect of providing health education about IDA on the knowledge level of female students of SD N 3 Tlogowatu. Methods: questionnaires and lectures. Results: The pretest and posttest results of schoolgirls' knowledge about the effect of Fe tablet consumption on anemia increased to 94%. Conclusion: Increased knowledge is expected to increase awareness and compliance of schoolgirls in taking good nutritions and also suplementation such Fe tablets, thus contributing to the prevention and control of IDA. Suggestion: this is expected to contribute to improving the health and quality of life of primary school students, as well as provide a basis for the development of more effective health education programs.

Abstract

The pregnancy period requires special attention because it is an important period in the 1,000 days of life. Pregnant women are one of the groups that are prone to malnutrition. Nutritional intake of pregnant women has a great effect on fetal growth. Good nutritional status in pregnant women can prevent Low Birth Weight (BBLR) and stunting (short). One of the factors that affect stunting is the genetics of parents, namely the height and weight of the parents. The risk of the child experiencing stunting is higher if the mother is <150 cm tall. Short mothers have the possibility of giving birth to short babies as well. The nutritional status of the mother before and during pregnancy can affect the growth of the fetus that is being conceived (Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, 2019). A pregnant woman must have a good nutritional status and consume a variety of foods in both proportions and amounts. Balanced nutrition is the arrangement of daily food that contains nutrients in the type and amount that suits the body's needs, paying attention to the principles of food diversity or variation, physical activity, hygiene and ideal body weight. Based on the description above, it can be identified that nutritional status is very important for pregnant women. The results of previous community service were obtained that out of 14 pregnant women, there were 8 pregnant women with abnormal nutritional status. Some pregnant women still have a LILA less than normal, which is less than 23.5 cm. And some pregnant women have abnormal BMIs. Given the importance of balanced nutrition in pregnant women, community service will be carried out by providing counseling. The results of this service were from a total of 11 pregnant women (100%) with a healthy reproductive age, which was between 20 to 35 years. The obstetric status of pregnant women is mostly multipara, a total of 9 pregnant women (82%) are multigravida. Nutritional status based on the Body Mass Index (BMI) of the majority with overweight as many as 9 pregnant women (82%) and 1 pregnant woman (0.09%) is normal while 1 pregnant woman (0.09%) is underweight. Based on the test scores before and after being given counseling, the results were obtained that there was a change in knowledge.
