Abstract

The construction of the Persianate Islamic Sphere as an analytical framework to understand the role of the Persian people in contemporary Islamic contemplation through a regional typology approach. The study is positioned within the disciplinary discourses of Islamic area studies, intellectual history, and political anthropology. The purpose of this article is to identify the characteristics of the Persian region covering Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan and to trace how Persian cultural heritage has shaped patterns of Islamization, scholarly traditions, and socio-religious practices in the modern era. This research employs a qualitative method with data collected through literature review, historical document analysis, and examination of recent academic publications; the data sample includes classical Persian texts, works of contemporary scholars, and scholarly reports on religious dynamics in the region. The working hypothesis posits that the Persian region exhibits a distinctive developmental pattern of Islam different from both the Arab world and South Asia. The findings indicate that the Persian regional typology is marked by cultural continuity, strong intellectual traditions, and dynamic interactions among state, religion, and ethnicity. This article contributes to strengthening regional perspectives within contemporary Islamic studies. The results highlight the importance of understanding Persia as a significant center of Islamic contemplation in the modern religious landscape.

Abstract

This article examines the legality and legitimacy of polygamy without the first wife's permission in contemporary Islamic family law through Mohammed Arkoun's critique of Islamic legal epistemology. Normatively, Indonesian positive law requires the first wife's consent and court approval as prerequisites for polygamy, yet in social practice polygamy is still frequently conducted outside these legal requirements. This tension reveals not merely a problem of legal compliance, but a deeper epistemological conflict between state law, ethical justice, and the sacralized authority of classical fiqh. Using a normative-theoretical method with an epistemological analysis of positive law, classical jurisprudence, and contemporary Islamic legal thought, this article argues that polygamy without the first wife's permission operates as a form of l'impensé (the unthinkable) within dominant Islamic legal reasoning. The article’s main theoretical contribution lies in reframing polygamy not as a doctrinal-legal exception, but as an epistemological problem rooted in the sacralization of fiqh and the exclusion of ethical and social experience from legal reasoning. By applying Arkoun’s critique of Islamic reason, this study proposes an epistemological reconstruction of Islamic family law that shifts the debate from textual permissibility toward ethical accountability and substantive justice.

Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between political configuration and law formation as a political product, as well as its implications for the development of Islamic law in Indonesia’s national legal system. Departing from the view that law is autonomous and neutral, this study proposes a political reading of law that positions Islamic law in a structural relationship with state power. Using a qualitative juridical-normative approach and political-legal analysis, this study examines how power structures, political orientations of the regime, and legislative dynamics influence the character and substance of institutionalized law. The findings show that changes in political configuration, whether democratic, authoritarian, or religiously ideological, correlate directly with the level of accommodation and restriction of Sharia norms in national law. The main contribution of this research lies in asserting that the institutionalization of Islamic law in Indonesia is not solely determined by religious normative legitimacy, but rather by political configurations that operate through legislative mechanisms and legal institutionalization. A normative comparison with the practices of other Muslim countries reveals a general pattern of political-legal relations in Islam, highlighting political-legal analysis as an essential theoretical framework for understanding the direction and future of Islamic law in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of local wisdom in the commemoration of National Holidays within an Islamic educational setting, with particular attention to cultural performances conducted as part of ceremonial activities. Employing a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, the research explores how performances such as colossal dramas, traditional dances, traditional costume parades, and the presentation of national and regional songs function as media for expressing local wisdom and national values. The findings indicate that these cultural performances embody key values including love of the homeland, cultural preservation, tolerance, religious moderation, and the spirit of mutual cooperation. Importantly, the forms of local wisdom displayed do not contradict Islamic teachings; rather, they align with Qur’anic principles of human diversity and mutual recognition as articulated in QS. Al-Hujurat (49:13). Beyond their ceremonial function, these activities play a significant role in socializing local wisdom and fostering national consciousness among students. Moreover, the integration of cultural expressions within national ceremonies serves as an effective form of cultural da’wah, enabling the internalization of religious and national values through contextual and experiential practices. This study contributes to discussions on cultural nationalism by highlighting the strategic role of ceremonial arts and cultural activities in integrating religious values and national identity within formal state rituals.

Abstract

This study aimed to delve whether integrating the Genre-Based Approach (GBA) with Differentiated Instruction (DI) can improve writing skills among seventh-grade students in a Junior High School in Kediri, Indonesia. The research applied a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, which included two cycles of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The findings indicate that the implementation of GBA combined with DI enhanced students’ writing proficiency, particularly in the production of descriptive texts. The post-test results of Cycle 2 indicated that 81.25% of students’ mean score reached 77.8, surpassing the minimum passing grade (KKM) of 75 and demonstrating a substantial improvement compared to the mean score obtained in Cycle 1 (62). Additionally, qualitative data showed that students' engagement, enthusiasm, and attitudes toward English writing improved, as they became more involved in class discussions, writing exercises, and collaborative activities. The study further highlights that the integration of DI with GBA addresses the diverse learning needs of students, fostering a more interactive and student-centered learning environment. The research contributes to the growing body of literature on the application of GBA and DI in EFL contexts and suggests that these approaches can be used to improve writing skills in junior high school students. Future research could examine the long-term effects of this approach, its applicability to different writing genres, and the potential integration of digital platforms to enhance learning.

Abstract

The hydrometeorological floods that struck several regions of Sumatra in late 2025 generated extensive humanitarian impacts, marked by significant loss of life, severe damage to vital infrastructure, and serious disruptions to socio-economic resilience across multiple provinces. Despite the escalation of these impacts, the government did not declare a national disaster emergency status, citing the adequacy of state capacity. This article examines the conformity of this policy decision with the statutory indicators for declaring a disaster emergency as stipulated in Law Number 24 of 2007 and Government Regulation Number 21 of 2008, and analyzes its constitutional implications for the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights. This study employs a normative legal research method using statutory, conceptual, and critical juridical approaches. The analysis focuses on disaster law norms, principles of administrative law, and the doctrine of constitutional state responsibility, particularly the concept of state omission. The findings demonstrate that disaster emergency indicators are objective, cumulative, and impact-based, and therefore cannot be reduced to administrative discretion or claims of state capacity alone. Empirically, the scale of casualties, damage to vital infrastructure, and cross-provincial reach indicate that the emergency threshold had been met, thereby narrowing policy discretion into a conditional legal obligation. Delaying the declaration of emergency status risks undermining command legitimacy, recovery budgeting, and the protection of the rights to life, health, and public safety. This article concludes that the Sumatra flood crisis risks transforming from a natural disaster into a constitutional disaster due to the absence of a decisive, transparent, and accountable legal determination by the state.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum is an innovation in education that emphasizes freedom and independence for students in the learning process. The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum is important to support the achievement of educational goals, including in the teaching of Aqidah Akhlak. This curriculum provides space for teachers to develop more flexible, student-centered learning. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the Merdeka Curriculum is implemented in the subject of Akidah Akhlak. This study uses a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis method. The results of the study show that the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum begins with planning, which consists of developing an Operational Curriculum for the Education Unit, participating in training, analyzing CP, TP, ATP, and actualizing them in the creation of teaching modules. The next stage is implementation, which has been realized in accordance with the teaching modules by carrying out several stages, such as introduction, core, and conclusion. The evaluation or assessment of the independent curriculum in the subject of faith and morals consists of formative and summative assessments. There are problems experienced by schools in implementing the independent curriculum, such as the uneven abilities of teachers and dependence on technology. Despite facing several challenges, the implementation of the Independent Curriculum at MAN 2 Kota Kediri is running quite well and effectively. Therefore, the success of implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in Akidah Akhlak learning is largely determined by the ability of teachers to design and implement learning in accordance with the curriculum requirements.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of meaning in the Robo-robo tradition of the Mempawah community, from an initial orientation toward “village safety” through prayers and ritual processions into a broader social meaning that includes community interaction, entertainment, and the economic activation of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The research employed a qualitative approach with ethnographic orientation, using participatory observation, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and visual documentation as the main techniques of data collection. The findings show that Robo-robo is attended not only as a ritual obligation but also as a social arena for networking, collective leisure, and economic exchange, particularly through MSME participation during the event. Although the core ritual elements remain performed, their significance has shifted and expanded, becoming more adaptive to contemporary socio-economic needs. Theoretically, this study implies that tradition should not be understood as a fixed cultural residue, but as a living social institution capable of refunctionalizing ritual practices into multi-purpose public spaces where sacred legitimacy, social cohesion, and economic productivity coexist and reinforce one another.
