Abstract

This study examines the condition of Arab society during the time of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH with a focus on social, political, economic, cultural, and religious aspects. Through a historical-sociological approach, this study aims to analyze the characteristics, structure, and dynamics of pre-Islamic Arab society to the early period of Islamic development. The research method used is a literature study by analyzing primary and secondary sources about the history of Arab society. The results of the study show that pre-Islamic Arab societies had a social structure based on a tribal system (qabilah) with values such as group solidarity ('asabiyyah), courage (muru'ah), and generosity (karam). Politically, there is no central authority that binds the entire Arabian peninsula, but rather is divided into autonomous tribal powers. Economically, Arab society relied on limited trade, livestock, and agriculture, with Mecca being an important trading center. In the religious aspect, the majority of Arabs adhere to polytheism, although there are also Jewish, Christian, and hanif (monotheistic) communities. The transformation of Arab society through the da'wah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took place gradually, with fundamental changes in the value system, social structure, law, and culture. This research contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the sociohistorical context of the emergence of Islam and the resulting societal transformation.

Abstract

Character education is a form of human activity in which there is an educational action intended for the next generation, which in spreading it in this era can use the media. In this modern era, media has a great influence on the way children learn when imitating social behavior. One effective way is to use animation that can help children understand and model good behavior in an interesting and easy-to-understand way. One animation that can help children imitate social behavior is Upin & Ipin, which contains various prosocial behaviors. This makes Upin & Ipin cartoons a potential medium in conveying character education messages that are in line with Islamic values. The method used in this research is library research. The results showed a discussion by taking three episodes of Upin & Ipin animation, namely: Rumah Rasa Sayang, Ijat Sudah Berani Naik Sepeda and Gerobok Rezeki, where these three episodes contain pro-social behavior values in building childrens character education that is in line with Islamic values. The conclusion is that character education can be built through children's animated shows such as Upin & Ipin which contain various pro-social behaviors that are easy for children to imitate and understand.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in encouraging social change during three important phases in Islamic history, namely the Khulafaur Rashid, the Umayyad and Abbasid periods, and assesses its relevance in contemporary contexts. This study uses a qualitative approach with a content analysis method on primary and secondary sources that contain hadith and historical records related to social transformation in each period. The results of the study show that during the time of Khulafaur Rashidin, hadith became a normative foundation in organizing socio-political life, including in the distribution of zakat, the protection of minorities, and deliberation in decision-making. In the Umayyad and Abbasid periods, hadith was used as a tool of legitimacy of power, but it also underwent significant codification and standardization, making it an instrument of institutionalized social reform. Contemporary discussions reveal that the values in the hadith remain relevant in promoting social justice agendas, inclusive education, gender equality, and peace. However, challenges arise when the hadith is interpreted textualistically without considering the context and purpose of the shari'a (maqāṣid al-sharī'ah). This study concludes that hadith has great transformative potential if interpreted contextually and progressively, but risks becoming a tool of conservatism if used narrowly. Therefore, hermeneutic and maqāṣid approaches need to be integrated in the understanding of hadith in the modern era.

Abstract

Kufa is one of the strategic cities in the history of Islamic civilization that has made a great contribution to the development of hadith science. Founded during the time of Caliph Umar bin al-Khattab, Kufa developed into an intellectual center inhabited by companions and tabi'in, as well as an important arena for the transmission and study of hadith. This city is not only known as the location of hadith narration, but also as a place for the growth of various schools of fiqh and theological thought that influenced the formation of Islamic scientific methodology. This research aims to examine the traces and dynamics of hadith narration in the Kufa madrasah, by tracing the contributions of scholars, the development of scientific institutions, and the influence of socio-political situations on the transmission of hadith. This study uses a qualitative approach with historical methods and literature analysis, focusing on classical sources and contemporary studies of the hadith and intellectual history of Kufa. The results of the study show that hadith madrassas in Kufah developed in a dynamic socio-political context and full of sectarian debates. Kufa scholars developed a rational and critical approach to the narration of hadith, which had a significant impact on the development of hadith science and fiqh thought. Political dynamics and the emergence of various schools of thought such as Shi'ah, Khawarij, and Ahlus Sunnah also shaped the plural and analytical scientific character of Kufa. Thus, the hadith madrassas in Kufa not only inherited a strong tradition of hadith transmission, but also made an influential methodological contribution to the history of Islamic science. This study emphasizes the importance of Kufa's position as the epicenter of hadith science that continues to have an impact on the development of Islamic studies to the present day.

Abstract

The 20th century marked an important phase in the development of hadith studies in the archipelago, especially in the face of the challenges of modernity and the current of renewal of Islamic thought. In the midst of these dynamics, KH. M. Hasyim Asy'ari appears as a central figure who plays a strategic role in strengthening the authority of hadith as a source of Islamic teachings. Through his monumental work Risalah Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah, Hasyim Asy'ari not only affirmed the position of hadith in the Islamic scientific system, but also offered a contextual methodological approach to the religious reality of Indonesian society at that time. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive approach with a content analysis method, which is focused on a systematic review of the content of the book Risalah Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah. The analysis is directed to identify the construction of Hasyim Asy'ari's thoughts on hadith, as well as to trace how his work contributes to the formation of the scientific tradition of hadith in Indonesia, especially in the pesantren environment. The results of the study show that Hasyim Asy'ari's hadith thinking is based on the spirit of maintaining the authority of sanad, purifying the creed from the influence of extreme thought, and strengthening the framework of Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah as the epistemological basis for hadith studies in Indonesia. His moderate attitude, firm in faith, and adaptive to the Indonesian social context made his hadith thought a meeting point between classical heritage and the needs of the times. The work also forms the pattern of Islamic boarding school hadith study which is characterized by a balance between text and context, between sanad and the benefit of the ummah. Thus, it can be concluded that Hasyim Ash'ari's contribution to the study of hadith in the archipelago is not only theological, but also epistemological and methodological. His thinking provides a solid foundation for the development of hadith studies in Indonesia, as well as an important reference in responding to contemporary Islamic challenges. This study emphasizes the urgency of preserving and developing the intellectual heritage of local scholars such as Hasyim Asy'ari in formulating an authentic, contextual, and sustainable paradigm of Islamic science.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of online gaming addiction on emotional relationships within household harmony in Sukamakmur Village. The approach used is qualitative, employing in-depth interviews with five informants consisting of four wives and one husband. The findings reveal that online gaming addiction negatively affects spousal communication, emotional engagement, and the fulfillment of family roles. The addiction is characterized by excessive gaming duration, neglect of family responsibilities, and heightened emotional conflict. These conditions result in decreased household harmony, including reduced family time and increased arguments. Efforts made by couples to address this issue include open communication, setting gaming time limits, and seeking family counseling. This study emphasizes the importance of digital awareness and the active role of partners in maintaining emotional balance within families in the digital age.

Abstract

Marriage is a sacred institution in Islamic teachings that marks the beginning of a new life with the spouse of choice. In this context, choosing a life partner is an important decision that is influenced by various factors, including social media. This study aims to analyze the influence of TikTok content consumption on students' perception in choosing a life partner. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design carried out at the University of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with seven purposively selected informants, then analyzed descriptive-analytically. The results of the study show that TikTok content related to lifestyle, romantic relationships, and beauty standards has a significant influence on shaping students' perceptions of the ideal partner criteria. These findings indicate that TikTok, as one of the dominant social media platforms among the younger generation, plays an active role in the social construction process related to partner selection. This research contributes to the understanding of social dynamics in the digital era, especially in the context of the influence of media on the values and preferences of students in higher education.

Abstract

The family is a fundamental pillar in the development of civilization. In Islam, the concept of a sakinah (tranquil) family represents an ideal goal, grounded in spiritual, social, and legal values. This study aims to identify and formulate the criteria for a sakinah family based on the perspective of the Shafi’i school of thought. Using a library research approach, the study examines primary sources such as classical Shafi’i jurisprudence texts and relevant scholarly literature. The findings show that the Shafi’i school emphasizes the importance of a valid marriage contract, balance in the rights and responsibilities of husband and wife, proper child upbringing, respectful communication, and spiritual orientation within the household. These criteria reflect a holistic integration of moral values, Islamic law, and social needs. Although formulated in a medieval context, the principles of the Shafi’i school remain applicable in addressing contemporary challenges, such as domestic conflict, imbalance in family roles, and communication breakdowns. This research contributes significantly to the academic discourse on sakinah families and provides practical guidance for Muslims in Indonesia to build harmonious families in accordance with Islamic teachings

Abstract

This study explores the contribution of Muhammad Mustafa Azami in responding to Orientalist critiques of the authenticity of hadith as a primary source of Islamic teachings. In contemporary Islamic studies, hadith has often been the target of criticism, particularly by Western Orientalists such as Joseph Schacht, who argued that hadith was a fabrication by later Muslim scholars rather than originating from the Prophet Muhammad himself. Such views have undermined the authority of hadith and shifted its central role in Islamic epistemology. Azami, a renowned hadith scholar and academic, systematically refuted these claims through his seminal works, including Studies in Early Hadith Literature and On Schacht’s Origins of Muhammadan Jurisprudence. He challenged the Orientalist methodology and demonstrated that both the isnad (chain of transmission) and matn (content) of hadith were preserved and codified with rigorous scholarly discipline since the earliest generations of Islam. This research employs a qualitative approach using literature review methods to analyze Azami’s arguments. The findings reveal that Azami not only reaffirmed the authenticity of hadith but also strengthened its standing in global academic discourse. His contributions significantly defend the integrity of Islamic scholarly tradition and foster a more balanced dialogue between classical Islamic and contemporary Western approaches.

Abstract

India, as a country with high ethnic and religious diversity, faces prolonged tensions between its two largest communities, Hindus and Muslims. This conflict is influenced by the British colonial legacy that created deep social and political divisions. After independence, even though India adopted a secular ideology, inter-religious tensions continued, especially after Narendra Modi took office as Prime Minister in 2014. Under his leadership, policies that support Hindu identity, such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), among others, have fueled greater tensions between Hindus and Muslims. This article aims to analyze the steps taken by Modi in managing the conflict, focusing on the conflict resolution model he applied. Using a qualitative approach through literature study, this research adopts Barry R. Posen's Security Dilemma theory and Paul Brass's Elite Manipulation theory. The results of the study show that policies that prioritize Hindu identity have actually worsened social polarization and strengthened sectarian tensions, thwarting efforts at inclusive social reconciliation. This article suggests the need for a more equitable and inclusive policy approach in order to achieve sustainable reconciliation in India.
