Abstract

This study investigates the impacts of self-efficacy on self-regulated learning, critical thinking, and the outcomes of comprehending School-Based Management lectures. Additionally, it explores the influence of self-regulated learning on critical thinking and learning outcomes. To test the hypotheses, the SmartPLS 3 analytic method was employed. Findings indicate a significant positive effect of self-regulated learning on learning outcomes, establishing self-efficacy as a crucial factor for enhancing learning strategies and self-monitoring capabilities. The research confirms the beneficial effect of self-efficacy on critical thinking, highlighting its role in fostering key student competencies such as creativity, independence, and scientific inquiry. Furthermore, while self-regulated learning positively impacts critical thinking, self-efficacy was not found to directly affect learning outcomes. The study underscores the importance of self-regulated learning in advancing critical thinking skills, contributing valuable insights into the dynamics between self-efficacy, self-regulated learning, and educational achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to develop e-modules tailored to students' learning styles to improve learning effectiveness. A mixed-methods approach was employed, using the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. A needs analysis was conducted through student interviews to identify their learning preferences. In the design phase, a prototype e-module was created using the Flip Book Maker application to accommodate various learning styles. During development, the e-module was validated by subject matter and media experts and tested with both small and large student groups. The effectiveness of the e-modules was assessed through learning outcome tests and statistical analysis. The research subjects were 30 students enrolled in an Islamic History course at Medan State University. Data collection included questionnaires, interviews, and essay tests. Qualitative techniques were used to analyse interview data, while quantitative methods were applied to questionnaire and essay test data. The results showed a significant improvement in student understanding and engagement. Validation from subject matter experts resulted in an average score of 4.0 (Good), while media experts gave an average score of 3.8 (Fairly Good). Student trials produced an average score of 4.02 (Good). Learning outcomes improved significantly, with the average score rising from 62.33 to 79. The paired sample t-test showed a t-value of -27.55 and a p-value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant difference. In conclusion, the e-modules effectively improved learning quality, underscoring the need for personalised and adaptive learning approaches.

Abstract

The regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture, Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Permendikbud) Number 53 of 2023 concerning higher education quality assurance standards as the 26th Chapter of the Merdeka Belajar policy, which was officially socialised on August 2023. The Policy is being promoted to encourage quality transformation in Indonesian higher education, which contains several complex reforms and still needs to be better understood by Indonesian higher education stakeholders. Policymakers and implementers in higher education have the potential to make mistakes in following up on this policy. This research aims to formulate a model for advanced socialisation of this Policy, implement it, and report the results. A qualitative, descriptive case study model was used in this research. Selected literature sources from the Scopus database were used to formulate a model of advanced socialisation. The socialisation model as a Webinar was implemented on 6th November 2023 for 838 participants consisting of higher education policymakers, lecturers, students, school principals, and teachers. The evaluation results show that the Webinar's objectives were achieved well, marked by increased participants' understanding. This research recommends continuing dissemination activities to expand and improve knowledge of these transformative policies. As the theoretical implication, this research promotes a new model of socialisation in educational Policy, namely collaborative academic socialisation in higher educational policy.

Abstract

In the context of globalization, it is crucial to cultivate a sense of nationalism and historical awareness among learners. The inculcation of nationalistic values can serve as a means of fostering a national character that aligns with the nation's identity. Character education represents an initiative undertaken by educational institutions to influence, direct, and guide the conduct of students in alignment with the values espoused by specific norms, with the aim of mitigating the adverse effects of the globalizing era. One of the adverse effects is that the younger generation's interest in their own culture has begun to wane, leading to a shift in values in both personal and social life. It can be reasonably argued that there is a significant, positive influence of history education on the attitude of nationalism in students. Indeed, it could be proposed that the attitude of nationalism can be explained and influenced by history education, given that history learning provides material about the values of nationalism so that students are able to understand this value. This evidence suggests that history education plays an important role in shaping the attitude of nationalism among students.

Abstract

The rapidly escalating plagiarism rate among students in higher education has become a global academic concern. This quantitative study investigated the factors that led to student plagiarism. Eighty EFL university students from Indonesia participated in this investigation. The online questionnaire consisted of two sections: demographic information and a plagiarism perception scale, which included perspectives on plagiarism, the perceived significance of plagiarism, and contributing factors to students' plagiarism. The results disclosed a superficial understanding of the various forms of plagiarism. Personal, academic, and institutional factors contributed to plagiarism in the research. To reduce the prevalence of plagiarism in later phases, the results highlighted the need for practical policies and a cohesive framework to increase students' awareness at the onset. Course instructors should take the development of solid writing and referencing skills seriously, and the common leniency towards instances of plagiarism by undergraduate students must be replaced with a more severe attitude that encourages innovative and authentic research practice. To reduce plagiarism effectively, it is essential to enhance students’ understanding of its seriousness, provide robust academic support, and ensure that institutional policies are clear, consistent, and enforced.

Abstract

This study addresses the cognitive workload challenges faced by working adult students in Batam's higher education institutions, utilizing the NASA Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) methodology. Through a cross-sectional design and convenience sampling, data were collected from 157 part-time students across 10 universities. Results indicate that time constraints and academic effort contribute significantly to mental workload, with an average Weighted Workload (WWL) score of 68, signifying a high level of cognitive burden. Strategies for workload reduction include enhanced academic support, effective time management, and prioritizing mental well-being. This research underscores the imperative of collaborative efforts among universities, instructors, and students to cultivate an environment conducive to academic success and well-being for working adult learners.

Abstract

The concept of artificial intelligence (AI) has become inextricably linked to the technological developments occurring within the context of the Industry 4.0 and Society 5.0 eras. AI can be defined as a computer program comprising integrated machine learning, hardware, and software components. This concept of AI draws inspiration from the neocognitron patterns observed in the human brain and employs knowledge derived from hardware and software in order to fulfil its functions. With the advent of Industry 4.0, AI has been increasingly utilized in diverse domains, including education. The objective of this research is to elucidate the role of AI in education during the Industry 4.0 era, employing qualitative research methodologies. In the context of education, AI facilitates personalized learning experiences tailored to individual learners. AI systems assist educators in designing individualized learning profiles, encompassing a range of practical exercises, for each learner. This permits the adaptation of learning materials to align with the abilities, learning styles, and experiences of each learner. The implementation of AI technology in education is considered beneficial, facilitating the tasks of educators, particularly those related to administration, such as assessment and determining final grades based on applicable weights and evaluations. Furthermore, AI technology has the potential to enhance the quality of active and interactive learning experiences, thus facilitating the teaching-and-learning process for educators and learners alike..
