Abstract

Sendangsari Village, Purworejo Regency, has significant agricultural potential, but its utilization is not optimal due to low digital literacy among farmers and minimal application of modern technology. This condition poses challenges in supporting sustainable agriculture, so technology-based innovation is needed. This study aims to analyze the strengthening of digital literacy in sustainable agriculture through the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) in empowering the Sendangsari Millennial Farmer Community. The method used was a mixed method with a questionnaire instrument, pre-test and post-test, and plant growth measurements in IoT-based and manual fields. The results showed a significant increase in participant understanding, marked by a 17.77% increase in post-test scores from the pre-test score of 70.8. The application of IoT in the experimental field also resulted in more optimal growth of tomato, lettuce, and caisim plants compared to manual methods, and increased the confidence of millennial farmers in adopting technology. This study concluded that agricultural digital literacy can be strengthened through socialization, training, and practice of the application of the Internet of Things (IoT). Village institutional support, expanding internet access, and developing the capacity of young farmers are recommended to accelerate the transformation towards sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

Karangharjo Village, Kragan Subdistrict, Rembang Regency, is a coastal village where the majority of the population works as traditional fishermen using boats <5 GT. Fish catch productivity is greatly influenced by the seasons, especially during the west wind period when catches drop dramatically to <10 kg/day. The low level of education, with 48.22% of the population only completing primary school, further limits skills and income levels. This situation leads to poverty and livelihood uncertainty. The objective of this community service programme is to develop alternative livelihoods through welding training using Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) techniques as a strategy for diversifying fishermen's livelihoods. The implementation methods include planning, theoretical training, basic welding practice, application of workplace safety standards, and evaluation of participants' skills. The results of the programme show an increase in welding knowledge and skills among the 20 trainees, with some of them having the potential to develop their own welding businesses. This programme contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), and supports the strengthening of the local economy through the empowerment of fishermen.

Abstract

The community service programme in Karangharjo Village, Rembang Regency, was implemented through a pilot workshop on ship repair as an effort to improve the capacity and technical skills of coastal fishermen. The main problems faced by local fishermen were a lack of understanding of ship diesel engine maintenance, limited access to repair workshops, and the use of manual techniques that risked engine damage. This community service activity was designed with a group-based approach, local potential, and comprehensive intervention, including training in engine maintenance and repair, practical use of workshop equipment, tool management inventory, and the construction of a community-based shipyard workshop. The results of the activity showed an increase in fishermen's skills in performing routine maintenance, managing workshop equipment, and readiness to manage workshops independently. This programme supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water). With the establishment of synergy between universities, village governments, and fishermen's groups, this workshop initiative is expected to increase the independence, business sustainability, and economic resilience of coastal communities.

Abstract

The era of globalization necessitates that the younger generation acquire essential 21st-century skills, with critical thinking being one of the most pivotal. However, empirical evidence reveals that adolescents still exhibit relatively low proficiency in this area, despite its vital contribution to academic success, extracurricular achievement, and everyday decision-making. Addressing this concern, a community service initiative introduced an innovative educational strategy through a book discussion program aimed at fostering critical thinking. The chosen text, The Alchemist, offers profound narratives on life journeys and personal introspection. Implemented at SMAN 10 Depok, the program engaged 11th-grade students using the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method, encompassing intensive reading, collaborative dialogue, and reflective presentations. The intervention resulted in notable enhancement of students’ analytical, interpretive, and evaluative skills, alongside the cultivation of critical and reflective discourse. Furthermore, the activity contributed to the revitalization of literacy culture among learners. Consequently, the book discussion initiative demonstrated its effectiveness as a contemporary pedagogical approach to strengthening adolescents’ critical thinking competencies.

Abstract

Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) living and working in Hong Kong have access to a fairly good legal system, but many have not been able to make optimal use of it due to a lack of understanding and limited support. In addition to legal protection rights, PMI have the right to live comfortably and healthily. In addition to strengthening their understanding of their rights and legal protection, a variety of activities are needed to fill their free time, including simple but useful activities to maintain their comfort and well-being. To address this, this community service partnership (PMK) activity provides a solution by utilizing the Pocket Book of Rights and Protection and manipulative thinking and fitness tools. The partner for this PMK program is PCIA (Special Branch Leader of 'Aisyiyah) in Hong Kong, while the target partner is the Domestic Female Migrant Workers in Hong Kong. The activity was held on Sunday-Monday, July 20-21, 2025, at Victoria Park and Ammr Wanchai Mosque in Hong Kong. The results of the activity showed a positive response from the participating PMI members of the PKMK program. A publication of the activity was released in the media, along with a copyright certificate for the Pocket Book on the Rights and Protection of Women PMI in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, the video of the activity is currently in the editing process, and its publication in a service journal is in draft status.
