Abstract

This study aims to develop mathematical literacy problems based on the ethnomathematics of Acehnese culture. This study is motivated by the lack of resources relevant to local culture, which has hindered Acehnese mathematics teachers from implementing ethnomathematics in their classrooms. Ethnomathematics is regarded as an effective approach to enhance students’ mathematical literacy. Moreover, the integration of culture into mathematics learning has also become part of a government program in response to the low mathematical literacy performance of Indonesian students in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). This developmental research employed the Thiagarajan Four-D model, comprising Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate. However, this study focused only on the first three phases. The define phase entails a systematic needs analysis encompassing curriculum, student characteristics, and conceptual aspects. The design phase produces a preliminary prototype of mathematical literacy problems contextualized in Acehnese culture. The develop phase involves expert validation and iterative evaluation through one-to-one evaluations, small-group trials, and classroom field testing, with revisions incorporated to enhance validity, reliability, and pedagogical relevance. This study involved 41 students from a senior high school in Aceh and five validators. Data were gathered from validation and practicality questionnaires, interviews, and tests. Data were then analyzed descriptively. The result revealed that 19 out of 20 problems were valid. The problems were also considered practical and potentially effective for implementation in mathematics classrooms. The development of these problems provides a useful resource for mathematics teachers in Aceh. The study result suggests that ethnomathematics problems are beneficial in improving students’ mathematical literacy. The value of culture embedded in the mathematical problems raises students’ awareness and understanding of their local culture. These findings suggest that integrating local culture into mathematics instruction can help teachers design meaningful learning experiences that enhance both mathematical understanding and cultural awareness.   Keywords: acehnese culture, developmental research, ethnomathematics, mathematical literacy problem, mathematics learning.

Abstract

Numerical ability is essential for all students, particularly for those with intellectual disabilities who often face challenges in understanding basic mathematical concepts. This study aims to develop AR-Math, an Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media designed to improve basic numeracy skills through an inclusive and gender-responsive approach. The development process followed the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. In this design, there were two groups, namely the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class used AR-Math as the main learning medium, while the control class continued learning with conventional methods. Data were collected using multiple instruments, including validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, pretests and posttests, classroom observation sheets, interview guides, and documentation. The sample consisted of 20 eighth-grade students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities at SKh YKDW 01 Tangerang, divided into two groups. The results showed that AR-Math met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The effectiveness test revealed a significant improvement in students’ basic numeracy skills, as indicated by a n-gain score of 0.50 and categorized as medium. Beyond cognitive achievement, AR-Math enhanced student engagement, accessibility, and ease of use for students with special needs. A key finding pertains to inclusivity and gender responsiveness. Equal participation between male and female students was observed, as evidenced by comparable levels of interaction, motivation, and task completion during the learning process. This indicates that AR-Math not only strengthens basic numeracy skills but also provides fair opportunities for all learners. Thus, AR-Math can be considered a relevant and innovative tool for inclusive education, supporting both academic development and gender equity in classroom practice.    Keywords: assistive, numerical, learning, intellectual, disabilities, augmented reality.

Abstract

The teaching skills developed by prospective teachers are often repeated in different situations. Therefore, the optimal frequency of microteaching practices may influence both teaching skills and pedagogical content knowledge. This study used a cross-sectional design to compare teaching skills and pedagogical content knowledge among groups based on the frequency of microteaching practices conducted by prospective mathematics teachers. A total of 79 students were randomly selected from three universities in Yogyakarta that implemented microteaching with varying frequencies. These frequencies were classified into four categories: once, twice, three times, and more than three times. Teaching skills were assessed using observation sheets that outlined aspects such as explaining skills, asking questions, providing guidance, providing reinforcement, managing whiteboard use, and regulating body movement (non-verbal cues). Pedagogical content knowledge was measured using a test instrument. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a one-way ANOVA test. The results showed that the frequency of practice has a different impact on teaching skills and pedagogical content knowledge. Prospective teachers who practiced microteaching more than three times significantly differed in their explaining skills, while their providing reinforcement differed significantly from those who practiced at least three times. Conversely, prospective teachers who practiced twice performed similar levels of skill in asking questions, whiteboard management, and regulating body movement compared to those who practiced more frequently. Pedagogical content knowledge of prospective teachers who practiced more than three times was significantly higher than that of those who practiced three or fewer times. These findings suggest that universities should carefully regulate the frequency of microteaching practices to optimize students' teaching skills and pedagogical content knowledge in mathematics education for those who aspire to become effective mathematics teachers. Abstract

This study emphasizes the importance of creative thinking skills as a key 21st-century student competency. Observations at a junior high school in Malang City revealed that 68% of 31 students could not solve simple algebra problems. This inability could be caused by several factors, one of which is low creative thinking skills. There is still limited research on creative thinking skills. Therefore, this study aimed to assess pupils’ original ideas and abilities in algebra questions based on AQ (Adversity Quotient) categories. In this qualitative descriptive research, 33 students were selected based on various AQ categories. The AQ data were collected through a questionnaire and categorized as follows: 11 students in the Climbers category, 17 in the Campers category, and five in the Quitters category. Three subjects were selected based on the highest scores in each category: AQ, representative, and communicative. The subjects were further analyzed using a creativity component test (fluency, flexibility, and originality). The data collection methods in this investigation were the AQ questionnaire, a creative thinking ability test, and semi-structured interviews. The interviews aimed to gather more in-depth information about students’ thought processes while solving algebra problems. The study’s results indicate that the majority of students are in the Campers category (51.51%), followed by Climbers (33.33%) and Quitters (15.15%). Students with AQ Climbers profiles meet the fluency, flexibility, and originality criteria. Students with AQ Campers appear confident, but their solutions did not meet the fluency component (fulfilling the components of flexibility and originality). Meanwhile, pupils who are AQ Quitters cannot meet the requirements for creative thinking. The conclusion of this study is that the higher the level of resilience (AQ) of students, the higher their ability to think creatively and solve mathematical problems fluently, flexibly, and originally. This research can inspire teachers to use the open-ended problem-solving method by considering students’ AQ levels, helping students enhance their creative thinking skills. Keywords: adversity quotient, creative thinking skills, algebra.

Abstract

Numeracy literacy is one of the basic competencies that support students' success in academic and social life. This study aims to analyze the numeracy literacy skills of junior high school students in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, particularly in the domain of numbers, based on local wisdom such as the traditional Souraja buildings and agricultural practices of the residents of Sigi Regency. The sample comprised 120 eighth-grade students from six public junior high schools in Sigi Regency, representing diverse geographical characteristics (mountainous, rural, and urban) and varying educational performance levels. They were selected through purposive sampling and the mixed methods approach with an Explanatory Sequential Design as the research methodology. Data were collected using a numeracy literacy test developed using the AKM framework and numeracy competence indicators from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (2023).  The results showed that only 10% of pupils reached the "Proficient" level. Most of them (65%) are in the ‘Basic’ or ‘Requiring Special Intervention’ group.  This decline in results is due to traditional teaching methods that fail to connect the material to the students' local environment.  Teaching math has not fully utilized local knowledge, such as how to do business in traditional markets and how to farm. These results indicate the need to revise the approach to teaching mathematics in schools, with an emphasis on integrating local knowledge into learning, namely, developing teaching methods that link mathematical concepts to students' daily lives, so that they are more relevant and engaging for students. In addition, this locally-based approach is expected to improve students' numeracy understanding and skills, especially for those who are still at a basic level or need special intervention. The development of a more contextual curriculum based on students' real experiences can also enrich the learning process and encourage significant improvement in academic outcomes.    Keywords: numeracy literacy, number domain, local wisdom of sigi.

Abstract

The Effect of Problem Solving Based Worksheet to Improve Creative Thinking Skills Students. This research aims to describe the effect of using problem solving based worksheet to improve students creative thinking skills in electrolyte and non-electrolyte solution topic. This research uses quasi experiment method with Non-Equivalent Pretest Posttest Control Group Design. The population in this research was class X Senior high school N 13 Bandarlampung. The sampel used was cluster random sampling, the class X MIPA 1 was the experimental class and X MIPA 5 was the control class. To prove the students worksheet based on problem solving is influential in improving students creative thinking skills, then a measure of influence effect size. The result of data analysis showed that students creative thinking skills had a large influence on the experimental class compared to the control class. Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced learning activities to be carried out online. In response to this, Universitas Lancang Kuning, which has implemented the Blended Learning application, wants to measure the level of use and understand the factors that influence the acceptance of the system in an agency. The study was conducted at the Unilak Fasilkom with 92 samples. Data obtained by distributing questionnaires based on indicators and variables of the technology acceptance modelling method. The results of this study indicate that the multiple regression analysis of the variables that have an influence on the real condition of information users is the variable Benefits of using information systems (X1), User Ease of Information Systems (X2), and User Attitudes towards Information Systems (X3) have a significant influence on real condition of information system users (Y). Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to determine the profile of students' creative thinking skills and the implementation of inquiry free in schools. The descriptive research design used a qualitative approach and involved 31 high school students. The data were obtained from interviews, tests, and questionnaires. The data collection instruments used were (1) interview instruments with teachers, (2) test question sheets with indicators of creative thinking skills, namely fluency, flex ibility, originality, and elaboration, also (4) questionnaires. The results showed six students in the very creative, four in the creative, eight in the moderately creative, six in the less creative, and seven in the non-creative. Creative thinking skills in each category are fluency by 63%, flexibility by 48%, originality by 45%, and elaboration by 35%. The research concludes that the inquiry free learning model can be applied in schools to help improve students' creative thinking skills, especially on the elaboration indicator.Keywords: creative thinking, free inquiry, linear motion. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v22i2.pp292-304

Abstract

Previous research has developed digital assessments in basic physics courses. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of implementing Kahoot-based digital assessments in Basic Physics courses at a private university in Makassar. This research is a pre-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design in one experimental class. The research sample is a saturated sample with 13 students as respondents. This study tested three types of questions, namely quiz, true-false, and multiple choice. The results of the data analysis show that the mean value for the pretest is 54.46 and the posttest is 85.87. In addition, an increase (n-gain) value of 0.68 was obtained in the medium category. The n-gain percentage value is 68.06 which means the effectiveness of the instrument is in the fairly effective category. Testing the pretest and posttest scores for each type of question shows an increase in learning outcomes for the type of question being tested. The pretest and posttest results for the three types of questions are presented in the form of a frequency distribution graph. After obtaining data on the effectiveness of using the Kahoot-based digital basic physics assessment, it is further suggested to test the practicality of the Kahoot-based basic physics assessment developed.Keywords: Learning assessment, basic physics, Kahoot application.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v24i1.pp152-160

Abstract

This study aims to describe teachers’ perceptions towards students’ worksheets based on bagasse waste processing projects to improve students' creative thinking skills. This research was conducted in Lampung Province involving 42 junior high school science teachers. This study uses the ADDIE research and development method by Branch. At the analysis stage, performance analysis and needs analysis are carried out. At the development stage, two education experts validated the suitability of the content with project-based learning steps and indicators of creative thinking skills according to Torrance and validated the suitability of the construction with the components of the student worksheets. At the implementation stage, it will be tested in class VII at SMP Negeri 3 Kotabumi. The evaluation stage is by evaluating the results of students after the learning is carried out.
