Abstract

The study entitled Multireligious Culture for the Development of Tolerance Character was motivated by the idealism of schools as safe spaces that facilitate interfaith interaction. However, reality shows that there is bullying against Catholic students, exclusion of Hindu students, and feelings of marginalization among non-Muslim teachers due to the lack of multireligious interaction. This condition prompted the school to initiate a multireligious culture as a strategy to strengthen tolerance. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to describe the implementation of a multireligious culture, the profile of the school community's tolerance character, and its contribution to the development of student tolerance. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with informants selected using purposive sampling, including the principal, teachers, and students of Islam, Catholicism, and Hinduism. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, with validity testing using source and technique triangulation. The results of the study show that: 1) multireligious culture is interpreted as a system of values, beliefs, and social practices based on three layers of culture (basic assumptions, values, and artifacts) that emphasize harmony and non-discrimination; 2) the character of tolerance is reflected through six indicators: recognition of differences, mutual respect, freedom of belief, coexistence, self-control, and justice; 3) the contribution of multireligious culture to the development of the character of tolerance takes place systematically through three layers of culture. First, artifacts in the form of symbols of love and joint activities between religious adherents; second, embraced values, namely mutual respect, harmony, and justice, are instilled through vision & mission, rules and regulations, and role models; third, the underlying assumptions of the school community are that diverse religious beliefs are a natural reality and that human relationships are inclusive, egalitarian, and collaborative.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the process and mechanisms of constructing students' humanistic character, including empathy, tolerance, and social concern, thru the extracurricular program of the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IPM) at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design to gain an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of value internalization within the context of student organizations. Data were collected thru participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The research results show that the construction of humanistic character occurs thru the integration of authentic social experiences, organizational deliberation mechanisms, participatory habituation, and the exemplary behavior of mentors and administrators. Empathy is constructed thru direct involvement in social activities; tolerance is formed thru deliberative practices and collective conflict resolution, while social concern is reinforced thru the equitable distribution of roles and responsibilities. These findings affirm that IPM functions as a space for the construction of contextual and sustainable humanistic values within the framework of progressive Islamic education.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the degradation of discipline character and lifestyle changes due to regional infrastructure development (Southern Cross Road) poses a serious challenge to self-control among elementary school students. This study aims to analyze the mechanism of habituating Duha prayer as an instrument for strengthening student discipline. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected thru participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Analysis was conducted by integrating Thorndike's Law of Exercise theory and Thomas Lickona's character education concept. Research findings indicate that structured habituation thru pre-, process, and post-worship stages effectively builds three dimensions of discipline: time discipline, instructional discipline, and regulatory discipline (self-control). The success of this program is determined by the strategic partnership of religious leaders and the collective example set by teachers, although it is still hindered by factors such as teacher dissonance and the family environment. This study concludes that consistent worship habituation functions as a moral shield for students in facing the negative impacts of modernity and sociological changes in the region.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of internalizing the value of responsibility through a worship habituation program in increasing the religious awareness of elementary school students. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at SDIT Luqman Al Hakim 2 Yogyakarta. The research subjects consisted of the principal, vice principal for curriculum, Islamic Religious Education teachers, homeroom teachers, and students. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of school activities related to the implementation of worship habituation. The data were analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the internalization of the value of responsibility occurs through three stages: value transformation, value transaction, and value transinternalization. These stages are implemented through various structured and continuous worship habituation activities, including dhuha prayer, congregational prayer, dhikr, Qur’an recitation, and morning assemblies. Through these activities, students gain cognitive understanding of responsibility in worship and gradually develop affective awareness and behavioral practice in daily life. The study indicates that worship habituation serves as an effective medium for internalizing responsibility values and strengthening students’ religious awareness, contributing to the development of character education based on religious values in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study was motivated by a 14.11% decline in students’ Qur’an memorisation quality at SMAIT Bina Umat Yogyakarta over the past three academic years, which was associated with below-standard reading proficiency, conventional instructional approaches, and limited optimisation of Islamic Education (PAI) teachers’ leadership in mentoring activities. This study aimed to formulate and analyse a transformational leadership model of PAI teachers as a strategic effort to achieve memorisation quality targets. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. The research subjects consisted of six PAI teachers and six students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, and analysed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal a transformational leadership model characterised by exemplary influence, Inspirational Motivation, intellectual stimulation, and Individualized Consideration integrated into spiritual mentoring practices. The model strengthens students’ commitment, learning discipline, and memorisation strategies. Students’ memorisation quality generally met institutional standards, including tajwid accuracy, articulation, reading fluency, and a minimum memorisation target of 1.5 juz annually. Leadership practices demonstrated measurable improvement in memorisation outcomes, with reading fluency achievement ranging from 88% to 98% of students. The study concludes that the transformational leadership model is an effective strategic approach for achieving sustainable targets for memorisation quality.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the challenge of moral degradation among adolescents in the era of technological disruption and the low level of early religiosity among students in coastal vocational schools. Data shows that 75% of students do not perform mandatory prayers at home, and the majority are not yet proficient in reading the Quran. This research aims to analyze the strategy of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in fostering students' religious character through the flagship program of sujud, rajin, and ngaji (SURJAN) at SMKN 1 Tepus. The method used is qualitative with a case study type. The research results indicate that the PAI teachers' strategy is implemented through three pillars of SURJAN, namely, first, sujud (habit of praying in congregation), second, rajin (5S culture and industrial discipline), and third, ngaji (reading the Quran). The impact of this strategy is an increase in the frequency of mandatory prayers at home by up to 80% and an improvement in the ability to read the Quran.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited understanding of Qur’anic literacy as merely a technical practice rather than a systematically managed institutional strategy in Islamic boarding schools. The research problem addressed in this study is how strategies to improve Qur’anic literacy skills are implemented at Pondok Pesantren Al-Amin Tarub Tegal. This study aims to describe and analyze these strategies within an institutional context. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that strategies for improving Qur’anic literacy are implemented through vision-based planning, gradual implementation (tadarruj) through structured habituation, and integrated evaluation combining academic and character aspects. These strategies are supported by a conducive religious environment and active involvement of all elements within the pesantren. In conclusion, improving Qur’anic literacy skills can be effectively achieved through well-planned, systematic, and value-based strategies, contributing to the development of students’ cognitive, affective, and spiritual dimensions.

Abstract

The quality of curriculum and learning has become a critical issue in improving educational outcomes, particularly in the context of Islamic education, which emphasizes both intellectual and moral development. However, many educational institutions still face challenges such as irrelevant curricula, teacher-centered learning practices, limited integration of technology, and ineffective evaluation systems. This study aims to analyze the concept of curriculum quality, examine the development of quality-based learning, explore the role of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and digital learning, and evaluate learning practices based on quality principles. This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method, analyzing relevant literature from scientific journals and academic sources published within the last ten years. The findings indicate that curriculum quality must be integrative, flexible, and aligned with contemporary needs while maintaining Islamic values. In addition, effective learning requires student-centered approaches supported by teacher competence, innovation, and technology integration. The study also reveals that HOTS and digital learning significantly enhance critical thinking and learning engagement, while continuous and comprehensive evaluation is essential to ensure learning effectiveness. In conclusion, improving educational quality requires a holistic and integrated approach involving curriculum reform, innovative learning strategies, and sustainable evaluation systems.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of human resource management (HRM) in Islamic educational institutions and its impact on stakeholder satisfaction. The research focuses on key HRM aspects, including planning, recruitment, development, and performance evaluation, as well as the challenges faced in their implementation. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of HRM practices from the perspectives of educators, administrative staff, and institutional leaders. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that HRM practices in Islamic educational institutions are generally effective, particularly in planning and development, which contribute positively to institutional performance. However, recruitment and performance evaluation remain areas that require improvement due to the lack of systematic and competency-based approaches. The study also finds that effective HRM is closely related to stakeholder satisfaction, as institutions with better HRM practices tend to achieve higher levels of trust and perceived service quality. Furthermore, this study highlights the importance of integrating managerial competence with Islamic values such as trustworthiness and ethical responsibility. This integration distinguishes HRM in Islamic education from conventional models and provides a more holistic framework for managing human resources. The results suggest that improving HRM through continuous evaluation, strategic recruitment, and comprehensive development programs is essential for enhancing educational quality. This study contributes to the development of a value-based HRM model that supports both professional excellence and moral integrity in Islamic educational institutions.
