Abstract

This study examines the symbolic meaning of students' social interactions with ustadz, teachers, fellow students, and parents at the Muhammadiyah Boarding School Al-Manar South Sumatra. Using a descriptive qualitative approach based on case studies, this study used observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. Analysis techniques included coding and categorizing the collected data to identify related patterns and themes. This study's findings revealed that students' interactions with ustadz and teachers are symbolized by bowing and kissing the hand, reflecting respect, religious obedience, and social hierarchy. These traditions strengthen the cultural and spiritual bonds between students and their teachers. Among fellow students, calling each other akhi (brother) and ukhti (sister) symbolizes respect, unity, and leadership development. These interactions help strengthen social structures and foster character development. Interactions with parents expressed through hand kissing and santri sambangan (visits) reflect respect, emotional connection, and community support. This symbolic interaction serves as character education for the students, instilling social ethics and cultural continuity. However, the focus of the study on one pesantren limits its generalizability. Future research should explore symbolic interactions in other pesantren to provide a broader perspective. The originality of this study lies in its focus on the role of symbols in shaping hierarchies and social identities in pesantren. By examining the pesantren educational environment, this study offers new insights into how symbols influence the dynamics of power, order, and communal values.

Abstract

Asset management requires a special method for its implementation so that the management information system can run optimally. The goal is for the system to be developed in the form of web-based software in an effort to optimize asset tracking at private Islamic religious colleges. The Analytical Hierarchy Process offers an alternative priority scale that will facilitate the decision-making process. This study will use a qualitative approach with the Research and Development method as a strategic step. The research object was conducted in two places, namely Hasyim Asy'ari University and the Bani Fattah Islamic Institute, Jombang. The results of the study show that both universities currently still rely on a manual system using Excel which is inadequate in terms of classification and automation. Hasyim Asy'ari University has a more structured approach to asset classification, while the Bani Fattah Islamic Institute, Jombang has not implemented systematic asset categorization. The four main stages in asset management are planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating. Both universities face challenges in organizing and implementing asset management because there is no special information system. In addition, the evaluation process is carried out manually through periodic inventory checks, thus limiting efficiency in decision-making. This study proposes the development of a structured web-based asset management system with a clear framework for system design, implementation, and testing. The integration of Waterfall and AHP methodologies is expected to improve efficiency, data organization, and decision-making in asset management. This study contributes to this field by offering a strategic approach to move from a manual asset management system to an automated asset management system, which ensures better resource utilization and administrative efficiency.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the Montessori Education Foundation, also known as Yapensori Jakarta, which modifies the curriculum from Maria Montessori. This study outlines how Yapensori maintains Islamic values. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study type and data collection through interviews, observations, and documentation analysis. Researchers test the validity of the data using method triangulation and source triangulation techniques. Data analysis begins with reviewing the data and reducing it. Then, the data is arranged, after which the data is checked to ensure its validity and interpreted into a substantive theory. This study reveals that Yapensori applies the Montessori curriculum, namely emphasizing student development (humanistic) through maintaining noble morals, faith and piety, and supporting students' Islamic talents through calligraphy activities, reading the Qur'an before entering class, Muraja'ah Al-Qur'an before learning begins, congregational Ashar prayer, Muhasabah, saying greetings, getting used to discipline, extracurricular marawis, hadroh, and Tahfiz. This study is original in exploring the integration of Islamic values in the Montessori education system in Yapensori, which is usually more humanistic and individualistic. This study highlights how Islamic values are implemented through spiritual activities such as muraja’ah, tahfiz, and other worship practices. However, this study is limited to one institution, making it less generalizable. In addition, there has been no quantitative measurement of its impact on students' academics and character, and there is no comparison with non-Islamic Montessori. Further studies with a wider scope and mixed methods are needed for a deeper understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing religious moderation values at the Salafiyah Islamic Boarding School, Rubath Al Muhibbien, Palembang. Religious moderation is crucial for maintaining stability and avoiding excessive religious interpretations that may violate humanitarian values, social agreements, and public order. Salafiyah Islamic boarding schools were chosen as the focus due to their pivotal role in fostering a moderate understanding of Islam, particularly in instilling these values in their students. The research utilized a qualitative phenomenological approach. Key informants included school leaders, administrators, teachers, students, alumni, and the general community. Activities observed encompassed the internalization process of religious moderation values, with classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) serving as supporting documents: data collection methods involved observations, in-depth interviews, and written and oral documentation. The Miles and Huberman data analysis method, known for its three primary activities, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification was employed. The findings reveal a model of internalizing religious moderation values at the Salafiyah Islamic Boarding School, consisting of three stages: value transformation, transaction, and internalization. The first stage involves value transformation through conceptual, institutional, operational, and architectural dimensions. The second stage consists of implementing advisory strategies and customary practices to instil values among students. The third stage incorporates role modelling, habituation, exemplification, advisory roles, promises, threats, and disciplinary measures. By focusing on one Islamic boarding school, the research results may not fully reflect the internalizing religious moderation values in other Islamic boarding schools with different characteristics, cultures, and teaching methods. The originality lies in the model of internalizing religious moderation values that have been developed. This holistic approach combines unique conceptual, institutional, operational, and architectural aspects and strategies relevant to the culture and traditions of Islamic boarding school education.

Abstract

Innovative learning strategies for Islamic Religious Education are needed to improve cognitive abilities, including analysis, application, creation, presentation, and implementation; affective abilities, including appreciation and organization or characterization; and psychomotor abilities, with the perception of the Qur'an and Hadith, which can enrich the vocational needs of students. This qualitative case study research aims to describe and analyze innovative learning strategies for Islamic Religious Education at Mambaul Ulum Vocational High School based on the Merdeka Belajar curriculum. Data collection through interviews, observations, and documentation. Testing the validity of the collected data through triangulation, expert discussions, and member checking. Data analysis using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana methods with data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion. The study showed that the Islamic Religious Education teachers implemented three innovative learning strategies. First, problem-based learning integrates religious concepts with real issues to develop cognitive, affective, and psychomotor abilities. Second, inquiry-based learning through independent investigation and applying religious concepts in everyday life to deepen understanding. Third, flipped classroom combines independent learning at home with classroom discussion activities. Applying three innovative learning strategies has an impact on increasing learning motivation, knowledge of worship, and critical thinking skills. The value of this research lies in the application of learning strategies that connect religious concepts with actual practices to improve the quality of learning in vocational environments. The research findings strengthen constructivism through problem-based, inquiry-based, and flipped classroom theory by showing that active, collaborative, and interactive learning improves understanding and application of learning materials.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the implementation of an Islamic Education learning approach with religious moderation insights at State Senior High School 1 Rejang Lebong, focusing on three aspects: the implementation process, students' attitudes of tolerance, and their responses to the learning approach. The research employed a qualitative case study design involving three Islamic Education teachers and 21 purposively selected students. Data were collected through interviews and observations and then analyzed using an interactive method encompassing data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Triangulation ensured data validity through cross-verification between sources and methods. The learning approach integrated values of moderation (tawasuth), tolerance (tasamuh), balance (tawazun), and fairness (ta’adl) into teaching. Group discussions on religious diversity, collaborative projects addressing social issues, and constructivist methods enhanced critical thinking. Teachers facilitated discussions, guided projects, and employed contextual, inclusive materials. Extracurricular activities like interfaith dialogues and community service reinforced classroom lessons. Students displayed tolerance through respectful interactions, diversity acceptance, and fairness in school activities, supported by personal experiences and a harmonious environment. They responded positively, showing enthusiasm, active participation, and a deeper understanding of tolerance and social harmony. This study highlights the importance of integrating religious moderation insights into Islamic Education through inclusive policies, structured activities, and interactive methods to foster tolerance, inclusivity, and social harmony. The research's novelty lies in its comprehensive exploration of the implementation process, students' attitudes, and responses. It offers practical insights into embedding ethical and moderation values in Islamic Education to promote harmony and prevent radicalism.

Abstract

This study aims to identify policy strategies, research trends, challenges, and opportunities to transform Islamic Religious Higher Education (PTAI) to increase global competitiveness and relevance. This study uses a qualitative paradigm with a literature study approach to analyse the institutional transformation of Islamic higher education. Data were collected by searching for scientific articles in leading databases, such as Scopus and Garuda Kemendikbud. The analysis used content analysis techniques to identify central themes and synthesise data descriptively. The study's results identified several important aspects related to policy strategies, research trends, and challenges and opportunities, including (1) Digital Transformation of Islamic Education, where PTAI needs to develop a curriculum that is in line with technology and ensure that the quality of teaching is maintained. The Diffusion of Innovation Theory explains that factors such as relative advantage, observability, complexity, trialability, and technology compatibility influence the adoption of technology in PTAI; (2) A sustainable Adaptive Education Model based on transformational learning theory, which emphasises the importance of critical reflection on social and environmental changes in order to prepare students to face global challenges; (3) Development of Digital Skills to support the transformation of higher education, by the Theory of Educational Technology; (4) Innovation and Entrepreneurship that focuses on increasing the competitiveness of PTAI, based on the theory of educational entrepreneurship. The implications of this study indicate that PTAI needs to adopt technology and adaptive education models to increase global competitiveness. The study's limitations lie in the limited library sources of international scientific articles. The suggestion for further research is to explore the practical implementation of PTAI transformation in various countries, focusing on field studies.
