Abstract

This study is oriented to describe and interpret the phenomenon of plural life in Islamic boarding schools and their environments. This study is based on empirical data obtained through the concept and internalization of religious moderation values in three locations directly related to the Poso conflict, namely Walisongo 1 Poso Islamic Boarding School, Amanah Putera Islamic Boarding School, and Gontor Poso Islamic Boarding School. This study uses a qualitative approach and phenomenological types and case studies. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are interpretative phenomenological analysis and multisite analysis because there is more than one locus. The validity of the data uses triangulation techniques of source data, theory, and methods. The study results indicate that the values of religious moderation applied are conceptualized through the curriculum's vision, mission, and role in Islamic boarding schools. Moderate character education of students through internalization techniques can be reviewed in three dimensions; a) the process of developing, renewing and adjusting paradigms by the times, implementing moderate curriculum and learning; b) the process of integrating the values of moderation with a set of subjects in Islamic boarding schools; c) a more profound process using verbal communication in embodying the values of moderation in daily behavior in Islamic boarding schools and social environments. This research is only in the corridor of the Islamic boarding school environment, where all educational processes are coordinated directly by the head of the boarding school, so further study is needed in different models and environments. The results of this study emphasize the importance of education in instilling and helping to foster moderate character in students.

Abstract

Visionary leadership plays a crucial role in the advancement of educa-tional institutions, particularly in shaping institutional direction and im-proving educational quality. This study examines the role of visionary leadership in Islamic educational institutions, focusing on its influence on institutional management and educational outcomes. Using a qualitative multi-case study approach, the research was conducted at Madrasah Ali-yah Negeri 3 Malang and Leading Madrasah Aliyah PP Amanatul Ummah Surabaya. The findings reveal that visionary leadership in both institu-tions is actively implemented and characterized by religious integrity and strategic institutional development. The leadership functions encompass setting direction, designing strategies, acting as a change agent, motivat-ing stakeholders, solving institutional challenges, and establishing educa-tional standards. To achieve these objectives, visionary leadership em-ploys various strategic approaches, including formulating a shared vi-sion, implementing structured action plans, empowering stakeholders, fos-tering collaboration, and maintaining high educational standards. The ef-fectiveness of visionary leadership is evident in its ability to enhance edu-cational input, processes, and outcomes, leading to improved academic performance and institutional achievements. These findings provide valu-able insights for educators and policymakers in strengthening leadership strategies that integrate religious values and modern educational princi-ples to ensure sustainable academic excellence in Islamic institutions.

Abstract

This study examines the management and implementation of a research-based curriculum to understand how Islamic education can integrate contemporary scientific knowledge with traditional religious teachings. Using a qualitative approach, case study design at Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Zainul Hasan Balung, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The validity of the findings used triangulation techniques, and data analysis followed the three steps of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion/verification. The study findings indicate that the curriculum was developed through a comprehensive planning process, including needs assessment and stakeholder collaboration to align with madrasah education's vision, mission, and goals. Its implementation involved structured research activities by forming Youth Scientific Groups (KIR) and Innovative Product Groups, which provided students with hands-on experience in scientific research and inquiry. This approach effectively fostered critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills among students. Teachers received ongoing training to guide students' research activities, ensuring effective curriculum delivery. The study also identified challenges, such as the need for adequate teacher preparation and appropriate learning materials, which were addressed through training programs and the development of research pocketbooks. The evaluation process used authentic assessments, such as portfolios and research proposals, to ensure continuous improvement and adaptation of the curriculum. Research-based curriculum management at MTs Zainul Hasan Balung shows that integrating research-oriented learning can improve Islamic education and prepare students for modern challenges while maintaining Islamic values. These findings provide valuable insights for Islamic educational institutions that want to implement research-based curricula effectively.

Abstract

The spiritual leadership of Hasyim Asy'ari plays an important role in overcoming intolerance, radicalism, and hate speech through moderation (wasathiyah), interfaith dialogue, and strengthening national values such as hubbul wathan minal iman. His leadership transforms conflict into harmony and tolerance by instilling altruistic love and solidarity. This study aims to explain the multicultural spiritual leadership model that combines spiritual values such as faith, altruistic love, and moderation with a multicultural approach that respects religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity. Hasyim Asy'ari's leadership is implemented through the Nahdlatul Ulama organization and Islamic boarding schools, strengthening national unity amid Indonesia's diversity. This study uses a qualitative approach, and the type taken combines phenomenology and literature. Literature studies are focused on studying the thoughts and roles of related figures, while interviews are conducted with lecturers and UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung students. Data are analyzed by filtering important information, coding themes to identify patterns, categorizing based on key dimensions, and synthesizing to find relationships and conclusions. Validation was conducted by cross-checking sources to ensure consistency and avoid bias. The findings show that Hasyim Asy'ari's leadership, shaped by his educational background in Mecca and socio-historical context, created a moderate multicultural leadership model that is still relevant today. This model emphasizes the integration of moral and spiritual values in creating an inclusive society and contributes to the world of education by shaping learning ethics, teacher ethics, and scientific ethics. The originality of this study lies in the analysis of Hasyim Asy'ari's leadership from the perspective of multiculturalism and moral education, which are still rarely studied in depth. However, this study has limitations because it uses a library approach that limits direct empirical data and focuses on the historical context of Indonesia, making it difficult to generalize to other regions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the interaction between intellectual and spiritual aspects in the Naqsyabandiyah Khalidiyah order and its impact on the self-actualisation and morality of the congregation. This study uses a qualitative approach with an interpretivism paradigm, focusing on the spiritual and social experiences of followers of the Naqsyabandiyah Khalidiyah Order. The study was conducted at the Naqsybandiyah Khalidiyah congregation foundation in Medan, North Sumatera, Indonesia. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was done by reduction, narrative presentation, and triangulation for validity testing. Self-actualisation through tariqah, especially in the Naqsyabandiyah Khalidiyah Order tradition, integrates intellectual and spiritual dimensions. Sheikh Kadirun Yahya developed an approach combining exact sciences with spirituality, emphasising the importance of intellectual development through an understanding of metaphysics, psychology, and deep sufism practices. This order teaches that self-actualisation depends on fulfilling physical needs and increasing spiritual awareness that connects individuals with God. Thus, Tarīqah's followers develop spiritual potential and enrich their intellect to achieve a more holistic balance in life. The implication for Islamic education is the importance of integrating intellectual and spiritual dimensions in learning. Further research suggests exploring the application of Sheikh Kadirun Yahya's teachings in Islamic education to develop students' potential holistically, both in spiritual and intellectual aspects.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the al-intiqaiyyah method to improve Arabic reading skills (maharah al-qira’ah) in grade VIII Islamic Junior High School (MTs) students. This study fills the gap in previous studies by focusing on improving reading skills and exploring the flexibility of eclectic methods in adjusting learning to students' needs. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the application of the al-intiqaiyyah method in maharah al-qira’ah learning at State Islamic Junior High School (MTsN) 2 Palu City. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using condensation techniques, data presentation, and concluding. Data validity was tested through triangulation of sources and methods. Implementing the al-intiqaiyyah method in maharah al-qira’ah learning at MTsN 2 Palu City involves three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. This eclectic method combines audiolingual, grammar-translation, and task-based learning approaches to improve students' understanding of Arabic texts, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Evaluation is carried out through formative and summative assessments. As a result, students can understand sentence structures, apply grammar rules, and improve their speaking and writing skills through practical exercises. This approach supports a deeper and more applicable understanding of learning Arabic. This study was limited to minimal supporting facilities and a sample from one school, so the results are less generalizable. Further research is recommended to test the eclectic method in various schools with different conditions, expand the use of technology, and explore its impact on other language skills.

Abstract

Arabic language learning strategies have become widely discussed in recent decades. However, several existing studies still need to place learning strategies in the perspective of Local Cultural Integration. Departing from this condition, this study will elaborate on Arabic language learning strategies from the perspective of local cultural integration. Using a qualitative approach, with the type of field research. Data collection was carried out using interview techniques and direct observation. Data sources come from primary data such as interview results and secondary data such as several official government document reports. The research was conducted at the Nurul Iman Al-Khairaat Islamic Boarding School, Al-Ittihad DDI Islamic Boarding School, and Hikmatul Husna NW Islamic Boarding School. This article argues that learning strategies with the integration of Kaili local culture, including Mosipeli, Masiamasei, and Mosipopatora, are effective as Arabic language learning strategies in Islamic boarding school environments, as well as media for disseminating and strengthening identity, especially Islamic boarding school culture. The Arabic language learning methods of sorogan, bandongan, and wetonan integrate local culture into teaching strategies. This strategy is a counterweight to cultural hegemony and globalization in the Islamic boarding school environment. The limitation of this study lies in its scope which is limited to several specific Islamic boarding schools, thus, the generalization of the research results to all Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia may not be entirely accurate because each Islamic boarding school has different cultural characteristics and teaching systems. In terms of originality, the findings of this study provide an essential contribution to the world of Arabic language education by linking learning strategies with the integration of local culture, especially Kaili culture. This approach is rarely discussed in previous academic literature, which more often highlights conventional methods of teaching Arabic without connecting them to the local cultural context. This makes this study unique because it proposes a concept that integrates local culture as an essential element in Arabic language learning while countering the dominance of global culture, which often ignores traditional values.

Abstract

The increasing cases of bullying and various forms of violence in Islamic boarding schools have encouraged researchers to develop a Pocketbook containing the Prophet's Hadith which aims to guide students in understanding moral teachings that can prevent violent behavior. This study aims to produce a Pocketbook of the Prophet's Hadith that can be integrated into the Islamic boarding school curriculum to prevent bullying. This media is expected to be a source of inspiration and understanding for students about the importance of avoiding bullying behavior. Research methods are in the form of development research or R&D. The development model used is the 10-step method by Sugiyono. The product's effectiveness is tested by comparing the pre and Post-test values. This study uses data collection techniques through observation, questionnaires, documentation, and interviews. In terms of student response data analysis, evaluation is conducted using the Guttman scale, which includes only two possible answers: "yes" or "no". This research produced the Prophet's Hadith Pocketbook, an effective preventive tool for reducing bullying behavior in Yogyakarta Islamic boarding schools. This media succeeded in increasing students' understanding of anti-bullying values taught in the hadiths of the Prophet. Using this pocketbook decreased bullying behavior among students, showing the effectiveness of this media in supporting character education in the Islamic boarding school environment. This includes limitations in generalizing results because trials are limited to specific populations and have yet to measure their long-term effectiveness. The implication is the importance of developing ethical value-based learning media and its potential adaptation for a broader context.

Abstract

The present study aims to analyse the influence of religious extracurricular activities on students' spiritual and social attitudes in the school environment. The present study adopts a quantitative research approach, utilising primary data sources. The data were collected using a questionnaire designed to address the research questions in a relevant manner. The questionnaire was disseminated through two methods: online using Google Forms and directly to respondents at school. The stratified random sampling technique selected 123 respondents from grade III students at Padang Vocational High School. The data analysis technique employed in this study utilised SPSS software version 24, encompassing classical assumption tests and hypothesis tests. The results of this study revealed two main findings: Firstly, the findings indicated that religious extracurricular activities significantly influence students' spiritual attitudes, with a significance value of 0.048. Secondly, the results showed that religious extracurricular activities also considerably influence students' social attitudes, with a significance value of 0.033. The originality of this research lies in its exploration of the social dimensions that emerge from religious extracurricular activities, a facet that has been under-explored in the existing literature. This study addresses this gap by incorporating spiritual and social attitudes as dependent variables, thus comprehensively exploring the phenomenon.
