Abstract

Pesantren have historically served as the backbone of traditional Islamic education in Indonesia. As Islamic higher education continues to evolve, pesantren institutions are increasingly recognized for their foundational role in shaping academic and spiritual development. This study uses a historical-analytical approach to trace the evolution of pesantren into a core component of Islamic higher education, examining philosophical, curricular, and institutional changes over time. Findings show that pesantren not only maintain traditional Islamic values but also adapt their curriculum to align with contemporary educational standards. Their educational philosophy—centered on spiritual growth, discipline, and community engagement—has significantly influenced the identity formation and independence of students. Moreover, several pesantren have successfully transformed into higher education institutions, integrating modern disciplines while preserving core Islamic teachings. Despite their progress, pesantren face challenges such as curriculum standardization, accreditation demands, and institutional autonomy. However, strategic collaborations with universities and state recognition have opened new opportunities for pesantren to contribute meaningfully to national education. The study emphasizes that pesantren remain vital to the development of Islamic higher education in Indonesia. Enhanced cooperation between pesantren and Islamic universities offers promising pathways for integrated, value-based education.

Abstract

Leadership in Islamic educational institutions has an important role as a guide, director, and inspirer for the organization to achieve goals based on the values of the Qur'an and hadith. However, the practice of ghulul, or abuse of trust in the form of corruption, nepotism, and injustice, often poses a serious challenge in creating Islamic leadership with integrity. This study aims to explore the values of justice and anti-ghulul from the hadith perspective and formulate strategies for their implementation in Islamic education management. The results show that the principles of trustworthiness, justice, and accountability in the hadith can be a solid basis for preventing ghulul and increasing efficiency, trust, and harmony in Islamic education organizations. The strategies formulated include strengthening the internal monitoring system, transparency in resource management, and creating a fair organizational culture based on meritocracy. The study concludes that the application of anti-ghulul values can integrate morality and spirituality into organizational governance, creating leadership that is oriented towards justice and sustainability. The findings provide theoretical contributions to the Islamic education management literature and practical guidance for leaders of educational institutions to build a management system with integrity. However, this research is limited to literature analysis, so further empirical studies are needed to test the relevance of these values in a broader context

Abstract

This theme explores the complexity of decision-making and organizational structure in planning agencies. Decision-making in planning agencies requires a balance between a rational approach based on data and analysis, and a participatory approach that accommodates various social, economic, and political interests. Meanwhile, the organization of planning departments needs a clear structure to ensure well-distributed roles and responsibilities, enabling effective coordination both internally and externally. Additionally, planning agencies often face political pressures that influence processes and outcomes. Therefore, the ability to adapt to political interests while maintaining the integrity of the plan is a primary challenge. A balance between technical rationality and flexibility in addressing diverse interests is key to successful decision-making and to the effectiveness of organizational structure in responsive and sustainable planning.

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation and effectiveness of the Preliminary State Defense Education (PPBN) program at Pakuan University in shaping student character and enhancing national defense awareness based on Pancasila values. As globalization intensifies and individualistic ideologies increasingly influence youth, instilling civic responsibility and national identity has become more challenging. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach, this research evaluates program outcomes through document analysis, stakeholder reports, and thematic insights into student engagement. The findings indicate that PPBN—though conducted over only three days—has succeeded in introducing core values such as nationalism, solidarity, and social responsibility. However, the short duration and varying levels of student motivation limit long-term value internalization. To improve effectiveness, the study recommends integrating civic values into broader curricular and extracurricular programs, incorporating digital and immersive learning tools, and expanding partnerships with external institutions. Alumni involvement and gamification are also proposed as innovative strategies to maintain student interest and deepen experiential learning. Overall, PPBN is a strategic initiative in national character education, yet it requires continuous innovation and policy support to remain relevant and impactful. This study contributes to the discourse on civic education in higher education and offers insights for curriculum developers and policymakers seeking to strengthen national identity in a globalized era.

Abstract

The Qur'an is a life guide for Muslims, although it does not explain in detail about education. However, there are several terms related to education in this scripture. This article tries to explain the nature and purpose of education in Islam by discussing these terms according to linguists and educational thinkers. In conclusion, the terms tarbiyah, ta'lim, ta'dib, tazkiyah, and tahdhib indicate the character and purpose of education. In the view of the Qur'an, the purpose of education is divided into three points: first, to form a complete human being; second, developing the human dimension in religion, culture, and science; third, making humans responsible as servants of God and heirs of the Prophet. These goals aim to create a Muslim who follows the principle of rahmatan li al-'alamin (mercy for all nature). Thus, Islamic education in the Qur'an is not only about the transfer of knowledge, but also values. It also has to do with building good relationships with God, fellow humans, and the universe

Abstract

Digital transformation presents significant challenges and opportunities in Islamic education, especially in integrating Islamic values into a digital-based curriculum. This research aims to explore the implementation of digital transformation in Islamic education, identify the challenges faced, and explore opportunities to improve the quality of Islamic value-based learning. This research used a qualitative approach through case studies of Islamic education institutions that implemented a digital curriculum. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Thematic analysis was applied to explore the main themes related to the challenges and opportunities in the digital transformation of Islamic education. Digital transformation increases the accessibility and flexibility of Islamic education through e-learning platforms and the use of digital media. Technology helps create more engaging and interactive learning experiences, thereby increasing student motivation. However, key challenges include gaps in technology access, a lack of teacher training, and resistance to change. However, the integration of technology enables personalised learning and digital literacy of students that is relevant to the needs of the times. Digital transformation has great potential to revitalize Islamic education by improving accessibility, relevance, and student engagement. However, successful implementation requires infrastructure development, teacher training, and a curriculum rooted in Islamic values. Further research is recommended to address the challenges of the technology gap and to explore the long-term impact of this transformation on Islamic education.
