Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology makes people familiar with coding skills. Coding can simply be interpreted as the way humans communicate with computers by creating software or applications that are useful in problem solving. This study aims to describe how coding learning is applied in early childhood (5-6 years) at Loop Academy. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design. The subject of the study was a coding instructor and CEO of Loop Academy. Data collection using in-depth interview methods, observation, and documentation studies. Data analysis techniques are carried out by means of data condensation, data display, drawing conclusions, and verification. The results of the study provide an illustration that coding learning in early childhood (5-6 years) uses Scra tchJr. The ScratchJr application allows children to engage in the creation of creative stories, animations, and even interactive games, as well as having creative problem-solving, logical reasoning, support collaboration, and create an interactive learning environment that children can take advantage of.

Abstract

In the past, playing was done offline, and various tools or physical resources were usually used to support the play (non-digital play). As time goes by and the digital era enters, a new classification of play is discovered, namely playing using technological devices (digital play) (Marsh et al., 2016; Undheim, 2022a). However, this raises the question of whether digital play has the same essence in terms of play, which is supported by play theories that can support children's development. This research focuses on the concept of digital play in early childhood. This study utilizes a literature review. Data were collected through Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyze Extension for scooping reviews using 3 databases, namely; Google Schoolar, Science Direct anda Taylor & Francis Online Journal databases. The presentation brings out the concept of digital play with the support of play theory and its influence on early childhood development then how teacher support digital plat, which will be used in the research to seek advice from the audience. The concept will provide an improved understanding of digital play for early childhood

Abstract

Environmental awareness is a behavior reflected in a person who is always mindful of their actions so that they do not harm the environment. This behavior is important because environmental damage is increasing due to global climate change and extreme weather. Early childhood education plays an important role in promoting environmental awareness as early as possible. This study aims to identify the problems related to environmental awareness in children and provide an alternative solution to promote environmental awareness in children aged five to six years old. Interviews conducted with two early childhood education teachers in a kindergarten in South Bekasi found that children still have low environmental awareness and the need for learning media to help promote it. The use of comic books as a teaching strategy in early childhood education is still not common as comics are often seen as shallow and lacking educational value. This study  reviews literature concerning the use of comic books as learning media in educational settings. By applying descriptive qualitative method, the results show that comic books have the potential to be used as a learning media in early childhood education. Abstract

Academic success is closely related to children's reading ability at school age. Subsequently, reading ability is largely determined by emergent literacy skills at preschool age. Considering the low national Indonesian student literacy skills ranked at the bottom layer of PISA international assessments, it becomes necessary to set up strategic methods to enhance children's emergent literacy at preschool age. There is no standardized method of teaching pre-reading ability in Early Childhood Education in Indonesia. Phonological awareness plays a significant role in reading ability, working memory, language skills, and letter knowledge. This article is part of a thesis that aims to see the effect of the foniks*PINTAR method based on phonics on the emergent literacy skills of kindergarten children. This is a qualitative study with literature research using PubMed and Google Scholar search engines with keywords phonological awareness, emergent literacy, phonics method, and foniks*PINTAR. Thirty-five relevant articles were obtained after following the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the research. It was concluded that research is required to see the effect of the foniks*PINTAR method, which is a structured, systematic, and multisensory phonics-based method on the emergent literacy skill of preschool-aged children.

Abstract

Early childhood education provides services in developing and facilitating children's growth and development in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. Teachers are required to develop these services in the form of fun learning activities according to the child's age and level of development. Scientific literacy is one of the abilities that must be developed in early childhood. However, based on the results of field surveys through interviews with early childhood teachers from several kindergartens in Depok City, it shows that teachers' abilities in designing science based learning activities are still limited to simple science experiment activities. Teachers have not optimally used the surrounding environment as a learning resource and medium. Based on the problems found, this research aims to analyze teachers' abilities in designing fun science play activities. Researchers used literature studies to determine the role of teachers in introducing science content through fun play. A qualitative descriptive analysis method was used to describe the results of this research. The research results obtained show that the teacher's ability to introduce science content through fun activities will make it easier for children to understand science content. The better teachers understand science content and develop it in the form of fun play activities, the easier it will be for children to have an understanding of science and meaningful experiences.
