Abstract

Tourism, as defined by the World Tourism Organization (WTO), involves activities where individuals travel or stay outside their usual environment for purposes such as leisure or business, for less than one year. Ecotourism emphasizes the use of natural tourism potential for conservation and development while minimizing ecological and cultural harm. This study explores sustainable mangrove ecotourism development in South Lembar, aiming to involve the community and support local economic growth. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method, collecting data through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature. The focus is on the local community as the subject and tourism potential as the object. Primary data is gathered from field surveys conducted on September 21, 2024, while secondary data is derived from academic references. South Lembar Mangrove Forest Ecotourism, managed by the local community, attracts domestic visitors with its natural appeal, including mangrove forests, river estuaries, and scenic sunsets. Advantages include diverse flora and fauna habitats and facilities like gazebos and small boats. However, challenges persist, such as poor road conditions, under-maintained infrastructure, non-permanent parking areas, and limited hygiene facilities. Although ecotourism principles are not yet fully implemented, the site has significant potential. Improved government and community support could enhance accessibility, infrastructure, and visitor experience, attracting more tourists and benefiting the local economy. Sustainable development of this destination can promote ecological conservation while fostering economic and social well-being.

Abstract

The Independent Study Program Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka aims to optimize the management of Uma Lengge Tourism Village in Maria Village, Wawo District, Bima Regency. Optimization is carried out through three main aspects, namely increasing village promotion, strengthening synergy between institutions, and responsiveness to tourist complaints. This program includes the creation of social media for digital promotion, increasing coordination between the village government, the Tourism Office, and Pokdarwis, and evaluating tourist complaints. The results of the program show increased digital village visibility, more integrated inter-institutional relationships, and improved services to tourists. Despite facing obstacles such as limited resources and community participation, this program has made a positive contribution to the management of tourist villages and increased student competence in the practical application of knowledge. Recommendations for the sustainability of the program include additional training for the community and managers and raising support from stakeholders.

Abstract

The aren palm tree (Arenga pinnata) is a plant that is known to have a variety of uses because almost all parts of the tree can be utilized, ranging from the trunk, leaves, to the nira water produced from male flowers. The palm tree is utilized for various purposes, such as producing palm sugar, making traditional drinks, as well as raw materials for handicrafts and construction. In particular, the community mostly utilizes the nira water produced by the palm tree as an important raw material for making palm sugar. The nira water produced is utilized by a group of people in Kekait Village to produce palm sugar that has a very good quality with a distinctive natural sweet taste without any additional sweeteners. In Kekait village, there is an UMKM called PONEK Sugaren, which plays an important role in producing and developing traditional palm sugar products. The purpose of this palm sugar production is to utilize the abundant nira water as well as a form of community effort to advance the underdeveloped economy in Kekait village. But after this palm sugar product is ready to be marketed, there are obstacles in the form of marketing strategies that are less effective and have not been expanded. So it is necessary to improve the marketing strategy and the need to expand to market the product. The research method we use is a qualitative approach with observation, interview, and documentation methods, in the hope of getting more information and also relevant.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the challenges and development potential of sate bulayak as a local culinary icon supporting the Aik Nyet ecotourism area in Sesaot Village, Narmada District, West Lombok Regency. Using a qualitative approach and participatory method, this research explores in-depth insights through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Data were collected from sate bulayak vendors with over 20 years of experience and stakeholders involved in managing the tourism area. The findings reveal that while sate bulayak holds significant potential to attract tourists, several challenges persist, including inadequate waste management, poor road accessibility, and the habit of visitors bringing outside food, which affects local vendors' revenue. Proposed solutions include infrastructure improvements, enhanced waste management, policies providing incentives for local vendors, and intensified promotional efforts to expand the area's tourism appeal. This study highlights the importance of collaboration among the community, vendors, and the government in sustainably developing the economic and tourism potential of local culinary offerings in Sesaot Village.

Abstract

The purpose of this Community Service Program (KKN) is to try to introduce the community to the hydroponic planting system. Hydroponic planting media itself is a method of farming using water as the main focus. Hydroponics is a method that can be developed and applied in the household sector. The goal to be achieved from this KKN activity is to develop hydroponic land that can be utilized by residents, reduce household waste such as plastic bottles that can be utilized as hydroponic planting media, and invite the community to participate in protecting their environment and develop the KMPS Batu Dendeng river community where the river is the main focus of the KMPS community, Dasan Geres Selatan Village. The results of the development of this method are expected to make the community better understand the hydroponic farming system and be able to develop it independently and utilize used waste and household waste, such as plastic bottles. So that it can reduce the problem of environmental pollution in the area. One simple way that can be used to increase public awareness of the environment is to utilize used plastic bottles as a planting medium using the concept of wick hydroponics or wick system.

Abstract

South Pringgasela Village, located in Pringgasela District, East Lombok Regency, is one of the areas at risk of natural disasters such as landslides and floods. To support reforestation and disaster mitigation, community service activities have been carried out by students of the 2021-2022 Mataram University Community Service Program (KKN). This activity focuses on planting trees on empty land and road cliffs around the Pancor Kopong tourist area, including the Goa Kopong spring tourist location. Tree planting is carried out to increase soil resistance to erosion and create a greener environment. The process of implementing the activity involved coordination with various parties, including village officials, mosque youth, and the local community. A total of 150 tree seedlings were successfully planted, with a growth success rate of 86% based on post-activity evaluations. The results of this activity show a positive impact on the environment, such as increasing the aesthetics of the tourist area, reducing disaster risks, and increasing public awareness of the importance of environmental conservation. This reforestation activity is expected to be the first step to encourage active community participation in protecting the environment and become a model for implementing conservation-based community service. Furthermore, the success of this program can be an inspiration for other regions in implementing disaster mitigation strategies through reforestation.

Abstract

This community service activity is based on the lack of understanding and ability of high school and junior high school teachers in compiling scientific articles and introducing much more deeply about learning methods using the STEAM approach. In addition, many teachers are still reluctant to publish research results on the grounds that they do not understand the guidelines for compiling scientific articles. This is the basis for the need to carry out this community service activity with the aim of helping high school and junior high school teachers in compiling scientific articles so that later teachers can publish articles that have been made in journals or mass media and are able to apply learning methods with STEAM. The community service activity was carried out in October 2022 at the State University of Malang. The method used is divided into two stages, namely delivering material and mentoring for teachers who want to compile scientific articles according to the reports they have. With this community service activity, it can provide a new knowledge concept for teachers so that they can compile scientific articles, especially from the results of research that has been carried out.
