Abstract

Aquaculture activities generate significant amounts of wastewater, primarily fish waste, metabolic by-products, and uneaten feed. One potential solution to mitigate this issue is the reuse of aquaculture wastewater to cultivate other fish species, such as climbing perch (Anabas testudineus). This study aimed to determine the optimal stocking density for climbing perch cultivation in catfish (Clarias sp.) aquaculture wastewater. The experiment was conducted by using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments and three replications: 2 fish per 2.5 L of wastewater (P1), 3 fish per 2.5 L of wastewater (P2), and 4 fish per 2.5 L of wastewater (P3). The results indicated that a stocking density of 2 fish per 2.5 L of wastewater (P1) was the most favorable treatment. Throughout the maintenance period, water quality parameters were as follows: average temperature 27.89 ± 0.060C, pH 6.90 ± 0.19, dissolved oxygen 5.15 ± 0.25 mg/L, ammonia 0.034 ± 0.020 mg/L, nitrate 22.33 ± 12.33 mg/L, total phytoplankton abundance 99.55 ind/L, and total zooplankton abundance 30.66 ind/L. Climbing perch demonstrated a 100% survival rate, with absolute length growth of 1.00 ± 0.07 cm and absolute weight growth of 0.93 ± 0.06 g. Feed conversion efficiency was high, at 72.48 ± 7.03%. Thus, using catfish aquaculture wastewater and appropriate stocking density offers a viable alternative for sustainable aquaculture waste management and fish production.

Abstract

Abstract

Proper transportation of seaweed seeds is one effort to increase their productivity. Good transportation must be able to guarantee that seaweed seeds arrive at the location in healthy and fresh condition. The research aims to determine the effectiveness of compartment type transportation container design in maintaining the quality of Kappaphycus alvarezii seaweed seeds after transportation for 6 days. This research uses an experimental method with three treatments, namely transportation container design with treatment A with 4 circulation holes, treatment B with 6 circulation holes, and treatment C with 8 circulation holes. Seaweed seedlings were transported for 6 days, with temperature monitoring every 4 hours while ice cubes were replaced every 24 hours. Daily weight loss rates were analyzed using ANOVA while temperature fluctuations in the transportation container were analyzed descriptively. The research results show that using a compartment type transportation container can maintain the temperature in the optimal range, namely 20°C-28°C for ±24 hours and maintain the freshness of seaweed seeds for 6 days of transportation. The compartment type design also makes it easier to replace ice cubes during transportation, thereby extending the transportation distance.

Abstract

Feed rich in nutrients such as protein, essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals plays a central role in successful aquaculture. However, feed processing processes, including extrusion, drying, and encapsulation, often involve extreme conditions such as high temperatures and pressures that can damage sensitive nutrients. The purpose of this literature review is to explore various preservation techniques in aquaculture feed processing to minimize nutrient damage, including temperature control, water content reduction, addition of preservative agents, and modification of chemical composition in an effort to produce feed with good nutritional quality. The method used in compiling this review is the systematic review method. By combining the latest insights from various studies, this review provides strategic guidance for the development of fish feed that is not only efficient and nutritionally stable, but also environmentally friendly. The implications of this innovation are expected to improve the sustainability of aquaculture operations and support responsible fisheries resource management. Based on the results of the study, methods such as drying, fermentation, microencapsulation, and vitamin addition have the potential to increase nutrition in feed and have a good impact on farmed fish.

Abstract

Guppy fish cultivation has become a promising business opportunity due to its high economic value and market demand. One of the challenges frequently faced by guppy fish breeders is the low larva production caused by inadequate nutrition intake in their feed. One important nutrient in the parent feed is vitamin E, which plays a crucial role in the fish reproduction process. This applied research aims to assess the effectiveness of administering vitamin E in the gonad maturation process of guppy fish. The study utilizes three treatments: control, P1 (4 mg/g), and P2 (6 mg/g), using the randomized block design with three replications. The research procedure includes preparing containers, test feed, and measuring research parameters. The observed research parameters include abnormalities, parental and offspring survival rates, absolute length growth of the parents, larval production, and water quality. The most optimal dose of vitamin E is indicated by P1 (4 mg/g), which resulted in a parental absolute length growth value of 0,57±0,06a cm and produced 278±7,55b larvae per parent. Survival rate of parents and seeds was found to be 100% with no deaths during research activities.
