Abstract

Goldfish (Carassius auratus) is one of the freshwater ornamental fish whose fry production has not been able to full fill market demand. Artificial spawning is one way to increase the production of goldfish fry. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of injecting striped catfish pituitary gland extract (Pangasionodon hypophtalmus) on the spawning performance of goldfish. The research design used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications, the treatment was of injections of pituitary gland extract with different doses, namely, A (pituitary gland 0 mg/kg fish), B (pituitary gland 250 mg/kg fish), C (pituitary gland 500 mg/kg fish), and D (pituitary gland 750 mg/kg fish). The results of the study showed the injection of the striped catfish pituitary gland (Pangasionodon hypophtalmus) increases the level of gonadal maturity (TKG), while the parameter such as relative fecundity, egg diameter, and fertilization rate had no significant effect (P>0.05). Abstract

This study aims to analyze the supplementation of sweet potato flour (Ipomoea batatas) with different doses in feed on growth performance and feed utilization of sangkuriang catfish (Clarias gariepinus). Sangkuriang catfish fry weighing 1.78 ± 0.11 g and length 5.90 ± 0.15 cm were reared in a container with a volume of 30 L of water and a density of 10 fish/container for 25 days. Fish were fed treated feed with doses of 0 % (P0), 1 % (P1), 2 % (P2) and 3 % sweet potato flour/kg feed (P3) three times a day at satiation. The results showed that supplementation of sweet potato flour at a dose of 1-3%/kg of feed had a better effect on growth performance and utilization of sangkuriang catfish feed than the control. Treatment with a dose of 3% sweet potato flour/kg feed (P3) showed the highest growth in weight, specific growth rate compared to other treatments, namely 5.24 g and 5.33%/day respectively. The same is shown in feed efficiency and feed conversion ratio of 69.23% and 1.44, respectively. Based on these results, sweet potato flour at a dose of 1-3 %/kg of feed can be used as a feed supplement in sangkuriang catfish farming.

Abstract

Male betta fish (Betta sp.) have a high commercial value due to their superior aesthetic qualities compared to females. Sex reversal applications to produce male populations would provide higher profits for ornamental fish breeders. Synthetic steroid hormones are commonly used for sex reversal to induce masculinization. However, synthetic hormones have been banned in aquaculture due to their negative environmental impacts. Therefore, alternative natural and environmentally friendly substances, such as honey, are needed. This study aimed to immerse betta fish fry (Betta sp.) in tikung honey to enhance the percentage of males. The research was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design with five treatments (P0, P1, P2, P3, P4) and three replications each. The experiment involved immersing 5-day-old betta fry in tualang honey at predetermined doses for each treatment. Treatment P0 served as the control group without honey immersion, while treatments P1, P2, P3, and P4 involved tikung honey immersion at doses of 5, 7, 9, and 11 ml/L, respectively. The results showed that the immersion of betta fry in tikung honey significantly influenced the increase in the percentage of males (P<0,05). The post hoc LSD test revealed a significant difference (P<0,05) between the control group (P0) and all other treatments (P1, P2, P3, and P4). The highest percentage of males was observed in treatment P2 (67.88±10.65%). Based on the findings of this study, the immersion of betta fish fry in tikung honey can effectively increase the percentage of males.

Abstract

Aeromonas hydrophila bacterial attack is one of the factors that affect aquaculture activities and cause losses. One alternative that can be done to treat diseases caused by bacteria is to utilize antibacterials that are environmentally friendly and harmless to the ecosystem, one of which is by utilizing ketapang leaves (Terminalia catappa). Ketapang leaves contain antibacterial compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, triterpenoids/steroids, saponins. This study aims to determine the dose of ketapang leaves to treat diseases caused by Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria in betok fish seeds (Anabas testudineus) with various treatments. The method used in this study was a completely randomized design with four treatments (A, B, C, D) and three replicates (1, 2, 3) namely A (control), B (1000 ppm), C (2000 ppm), and D (3000 ppm) using betok fish as test fish infected with the pathogen Aeromonas hydrophila, then given treatment in the form of soaking using ketapang leaf extract. The results showed that treatment due to disease with Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria in betok fish using ketapang leaf extract was very effective in treatments B, C and D. The best dose was found in treatment D with a dose of 3000 ppm, followed by treatment C with a dose of 2000 ppm and treatment B with a dose of 1000 ppm. The highest growth rate of betok fish fry was found in treatment D at 7.66%, followed by treatment C at 6.33%, and treatment B at 5.33%.

Abstract

Abstract

In Indonesia, particularly in coastal regions, the green mussel Perna viridis is a significant aquaculture product. Green mussels are not only a significant nutritional resource but also act as bioindicators of environmental contamination, particularly the buildup of heavy metals like lead (Pb). Conversely, stocking density is a critical environmental variable that can influence the efficacy of mussel aquaculture. Morphometric growth and heavy metal buildup in mussels can be affected by elevated stocking numbers in aquaculture systems. Consequently, comprehending the effects of varying stocking levels on these two parameters is essential for advancing ecologically sustainable mussel farming strategies. This study seeks to examine the impact of stocking density on the morphometric development and lead (Pb) accumulation in green mussels (Perna viridis) raised in a polyculture system. The study was performed over 21 days in conventional ponds located in Ujungpangkah District, Gresik, utilizing three distinct stocking density treatments: A (10 individuals/m²), B (20 individuals/m²), and C (30 individuals/m²). The mussels' total weight, length, breadth, and Pb concentration were documented on days 0 and 21. The results indicated that mussels in the 10 individuals/m² treatment had considerably enhanced growth relative to those in the 30 individuals/m² treatment. No notable variations were detected in the absolute weight across the treatments. Mussels at the elevated density (30 individuals/m²) collected more Pb on day 1; however, after 21 days, Pb levels decreased. This study's findings indicate that reduced stocking numbers mitigate environmental stress, allowing mussels to more effectively regulate Pb buildup. These variables are crucial for guaranteeing the sustainability of green mussel aquaculture

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp remains one of the leading fisheries commodities in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the correlation between measured parameters and identify the most influential water quality parameters affecting the productivity of vannamei shrimp reared in HDPE pond systems. This non-experimental research was conducted by directly sampling from a shrimp pond in Patrol, Indramayu, over a 49-day cultivation period. The measured data included water quality parameters (physical, chemical, and biological) and shrimp growth performance parameters (survival rate, feed conversion ratio, average body weight, and average daily gain). Measurements were carried out both in the field and in the laboratory. The results showed that several water quality parameters exceeded their optimal thresholds (e.g., hardness levels reached 7,000 mL⁻¹ in pond D3). However, growth performance parameters still indicated relatively high values. Based on survival rate calculations, pond D2 had the highest Survival Rate (96%), while pond C3 recorded the lowest (67%). These findings suggest that water quality parameters collectively support shrimp growth despite some of them being outside the ideal range. Total Organic Matter (TOM) and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) were identified as the most influential water quality parameters for shrimp productivity.
