Abstract

Mastery of mufradat (vocabulary) is a fundamental foundation in learning Arabic. However, the learning conditions at MTsN 2 Lamongan indicate that seventh-grade students still demonstrate low vocabulary mastery, which is influenced by the predominance of conventional teaching methods and the limited use of instructional media. This study aims to describe the implementation and effectiveness of the manual media Read & Find! in improving students’ Arabic vocabulary mastery. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the Read & Find! media, in the form of picture–word matching cards, is able to create a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment. The media facilitates visual–verbal associations, enabling students to recognize, remember, and understand vocabulary more effectively. Students also demonstrated increased participation, confidence, and accuracy in matching vocabulary with the appropriate images. These findings imply that the use of simple visual media such as Read & Find! can serve as an effective and practical instructional strategy for Arabic teachers to enhance vocabulary mastery and to promote more interactive and student-centered learning.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of women’s struggle in the film Norah directed by Saudi Arabian filmmaker Tawfik Al-Zaidi using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic approach. The research addresses two main problems, namely the forms of women’s struggle and the meanings of those struggles as represented in the film. This study aims to identify the forms of women’s struggle and to interpret their meanings through a semiotic perspective. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method using visual and verbal data obtained from selected scenes in the film. The analysis is conducted by applying Peirce’s triadic model, which consists of representamen, object, and interpretant, to understand the process of meaning-making in the representation of women’s struggle. The results show that the main character’s struggles are categorized into three forms: social, economic, and existential struggles. These struggles are reflected in the character’s efforts to confront social norms and pressures, to seek recognition and independence, and to understand as well as assert her identity as an individual. Overall, women’s struggle in this film is interpreted as a gradual process, starting from awareness of limitations, developing into the courage to resist, and eventually leading to self-acceptance and recognition. This study contributes to the discourse on women’s representation in Arab cinema, particularly in understanding women’s struggles within Middle Eastern cultural contexts, and reinforces the application of Peirce’s semiotic theory in film analysis as a medium of social and cultural representation.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of women’s struggle in Inshallah Walad, directed by Amjad Al Rasheed, which portrays various forms of injustice experienced by women within a patriarchal social system. The study addresses the issue of how cinematic signs reflect women’s resistance and survival amid social, legal, and emotional oppression. It aims to analyze the forms and meanings of women’s struggle using the semiotic framework of Charles Sanders Peirce. Employing a qualitative library research method, data were collected from film dialogues, visual scenes, and relevant scholarly sources, then analyzed through Peirce’s triadic model of sign interpretation. The findings reveal five major representations of women’s struggle: resistance to patriarchal domination, efforts to defend rights and identity, strategic social negotiation, the preservation of dignity and personal freedom, and emotional resilience. This study contributes to the enrichment of semiotic and gender studies, particularly in understanding women’s representation in contemporary Middle Eastern cinema.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of tasybih and analyze their purposes in the novel Faris Bani Hamdan by Ali al-Jarim. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques using the observation method. The data in this study were taken from phrases, sentences, and discourses containing tasybih. Data analysis was conducted using the tasybih approach in ilm al bayan, and to break down the linguistic constructions this study applies the distributional technique based on the Immediate Constituent Analysis method to identify the elements of musyabbah, musyabbah bih, adat tasybih, and wajh syibh. The findings show various types of tasybih namely mursal, muakkad, mufassal, mujmal, baligh, tamtsil, and qarib mubtazal. Meanwhile, tasybih baid gharib was not found. The purposes of their use include bayan hal al musyabbah, taqrir hal al musyabbah, bayan miqdar al musyabbah, taqbih al musyabbah, and madh al musyabbah. The absence of bayan imkan, bayan imkan wujud, and istitraf indicates that the use of tasybih is more focused on strengthening meaning and clarifying messages rather than creating effects of unfamiliarity or surprise within the narrative. This study confirms that tasybih plays an important role in strengthening linguistic beauty and narrative function in modern Arabic literature.

Abstract

The rapid evolution of information technology has transformed the pedagogical landscape, yet many madrasahs still rely on conventional instructional methods, leading to low student engagement and suboptimal digital Arabic literacy. This study evaluates the effectiveness of Quizizz as a gamified learning platform in enhancing digital Arabic literacy and learning outcomes. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design, the research involved 62 eighth-grade students at MTsN 6 Tulungagung, consisting of 30 students in the experimental group (8J) and 32 in the control group (8H). Data were gathered through pre-tests, post-tests, and a digital literacy questionnaire, subsequently analyzed using SPSS 20. The findings indicate a significant improvement in the experimental group's learning outcomes, with mean scores rising from 59.53 to 78.13. The N-gain score of 0.46 reflects moderate effectiveness, while a Cohen’s d of 2.44 signifies a very large effect size. Furthermore, simple linear regression reveals that Quizizz accounts for 59.9% of the variance in digital Arabic literacy (R2 = 0.599), with a significant regression coefficient (B = 0.862, p < 0.05). These results suggest that integrating interactive gamified media fosters a more engaging and learning environment, effectively bridging the gap between traditional Arabic linguistics and modern technological proficiency.

Abstract

Qawaid (Arabic grammar) learning is often perceived as difficult and less engaging because it is commonly taught through conventional teacher-centered methods. This condition leads to low student participation, limited learning motivation, and difficulties in understanding and applying Arabic grammatical rules. Therefore, innovative instructional approaches are needed to create a more active, collaborative, and meaningful learning environment. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of cooperative learning strategies in improving students’ mastery of qawaid while fostering their social and collaborative skills. This study employed a quantitative approach using an experimental design involving Madrasah Aliyah students as research participants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed by comparing learning conditions before and after the implementation of cooperative learning strategies. The findings reveal that cooperative learning significantly improves students’ understanding of qawaid, promotes active classroom participation, and enhances students’ motivation to learn. Furthermore, students demonstrated better collaboration and communication during the learning process. The study concludes that cooperative learning is an effective innovation in Arabic grammar instruction because it not only improves academic achievement but also develops students’ communication, teamwork, and responsibility skills. These findings contribute to the field of Arabic language education by providing practical insights for teachers seeking innovative and student-centered instructional strategies to enhance the quality of qawaid learning

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing the Game-Based Learning (GBL) method assisted by board game media in improving speaking skills (maharah kalam) of eighth-grade students at Sekolah Islam Terapan Prof. Muhajirin Palembang. This study employed a mixed-method approach, integrating a quasi-experimental design (pre-test and post-test) with qualitative methods The quantitative data were gathered from 20 eighth-grade students through pre-test and post-test speaking assessments scored using a four-criteria rubric (pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension), while qualitative data were collected through structured observation checklists, semi-structured interviews with two Arabic teachers and six students, and documentation, and speaking ability tests. The results showed that before the implementation of GBL, the students’ average pre-test score was 58.75, with low levels of motivation and engagement. After the application of GBL assisted by board games, the average post-test score significantly increased to 87.5. This improvement demonstrates that GBL is effective in enhancing Arabic speaking skills, while also boosting students’ motivation and active participation. These findings affirm that integrating the GBL method with board game media can serve as an innovative alternative in Arabic language learning at the junior high school level. These findings imply that Arabic language teachers should consider adopting game-based, interactive approaches to foster communicative competence, and that curriculum designers and school administrators can incorporate board game media as a structured and replicable pedagogical tool in Islamic junior high school settings.
