Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum requires Arabic teaching materials that are flexible, differentiated, multimodal, and supportive of formative assessment. However, many Arabic classrooms still use printed textbooks or static digital documents, which do not optimally support listening, speaking, independent learning, and rapid feedback. This study aims to analyze the urgency of developing an electronic Arabic textbook based on the Smart Interactive Arabic Textbook model as a response to the demands of the Merdeka Curriculum. This research uses library research with content analysis of Merdeka Curriculum policy documents, Arabic Learning Outcomes, and recent literature on digital Arabic learning, differentiated instruction, multimedia learning, gamification, and digital assessment. The findings show that electronic Arabic textbooks are needed for five main purposes: learning personalization, integration of visual-audiovisual texts, strengthening istima’ and kalam skills, reducing cognitive load, and enabling real-time diagnostic assessment. This article contributes a conceptual model of the Smart Interactive Arabic Textbook as a direction for developing adaptive, interactive, data-informed, and curriculum-aligned Arabic teaching materials.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Muhadatsah strategy in developing students’ Arabic speaking skills at Daarul Istikhlas Qur’anic Education Center, Tanak Awu, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The main problem addressed in this research is the students’ limited ability and confidence in speaking Arabic during learning activities. The objective of this study is to explain how the Muhadatsah strategy is implemented in Arabic speaking instruction and how it contributes to improving students’ speaking skills. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving one Arabic teacher and students at the institution. Data were collected through classroom observations and interviews. The findings show that the Muhadatsah strategy is implemented through discussion and drilling techniques involving repetitive Arabic conversational practice. Students actively participate in dialogues in pairs and structured group activities, such as two-line speaking practice guided by the class leader or peers. This strategy contributes to the improvement of students’ fluency, grammatical accuracy, and confidence in using Arabic. In addition, the institution provides additional learning support for students who face difficulties, including extra instructional time and supplementary materials. Despite challenges such as limited class time and differences in student proficiency levels, a supportive learning environment plays an important role in the successful implementation of the strategy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the various problems arising in teaching Arabic vocabulary to Grade 8 students at MTsN 2 Makassar. It focuses on three main aspects: the forms of difficulty students experience in mastering vocabulary, the teaching methods used in vocabulary instruction, and the factors that support or hinder teaching effectiveness. This research employs a descriptive qualitative design involving 32 students, with 6 selected as interview participants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed inductively to obtain a factual description of classroom learning conditions. The findings reveal several major problems, including students’ limited understanding of word meanings, inaccurate pronunciation, and difficulty using vocabulary in grammatically correct sentences. Although the teacher implements communicative activities, audiovisual media, language games, and repetitive drills, their effectiveness remains limited due to differences in students’ basic language competence, low concentration, and large class sizes that limit individual attention. The study concludes that improving Arabic vocabulary instruction requires diversified strategies, expanded opportunities for practical application, and improved classroom management to promote active vocabulary use in appropriate communicative contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of interactive audio-visual media in Arabic language learning to improve the creative writing skills of students in the Arabic Language Program at Ma’had Wali Songo Putri Cukir Jombang. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation, involving teachers and students as participants. The findings indicate that the use of interactive audio-visual media, particularly short Arabic-language videos without subtitles, has been effectively implemented and well integrated into the learning process. This media provides authentic language contexts that facilitate students’ comprehension. The learning process is conducted systematically through three stages: introduction, main activities (listening, vocabulary discussion, and idea development), and closing (evaluation and feedback). The implementation of this method contributes to the improvement of students’ creative writing skills, as reflected in the fluency of ideas, vocabulary diversity, and paragraph organization. In addition, students’ motivation and self-confidence also increased. Supporting factors include the attractiveness and variety of the media, students’ enthusiasm, and the teacher’s guidance. However, several challenges were identified, such as limited vocabulary, differences in students’ abilities, and the speed of language in the videos, which can be addressed through appropriate instructional strategies.

Abstract

he Indonesian Constitution is founded upon Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution as the philosophical and constitutional basis of the state. As the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, Indonesia also reflects Islamic constitutional values in the development of its legal system, creating an ongoing debate regarding their relevance and constitutional limits within a pluralistic democratic state. This study aims to examine the relevance of Islamic constitutional principles as a philosophical foundation of the Indonesian Constitution while identifying the constitutional boundaries governing their application. The research employs a normative legal method using statutory, conceptual, historical, and comparative approaches to analyze constitutional doctrines, legal principles, and scholarly perspectives. The findings demonstrate that universal Islamic constitutional values—including justice, deliberation (shura), equality before the law, human rights protection, public welfare (maslahah), and the rule of law—are substantially compatible with the constitutional values embodied in Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. Nevertheless, these principles function as ethical and philosophical references rather than formal constitutional sources. Their implementation must remain consistent with constitutional supremacy, democratic governance, legal certainty, and the protection of the rights of all citizens regardless of religious affiliation. This study contributes to constitutional scholarship by proposing an integrative conceptual framework that reconciles Islamic constitutional values with Indonesia’s constitutional order, strengthening constitutional theory grounded in religious ethics while preserving democracy, pluralism, and the rule of law.

Abstract

In Arabic grammar, the mubtada’ is generally required to be an isim ma‘rifah. However, Arabic texts frequently employ isim nakirah as the mubtada’, raising questions about the linguistic factors that permit its use. This study aims to identify the types and functions of musawwighāt al-mubtada’ bi an-nakirah in Awa’iq Ath-Thalab by Shaykh Abdus Salam bin Barjas based on Ibn Hisyām al-Anṣārī’s theory in Mughnī al-Labīb. This study employs a qualitative approach using the library research method. Data were collected through reading and note-taking by identifying sentences containing musawwighāt al-mubtada’ bi an-nakirah and analyzing them according to Ibn Hisyām al-Anṣārī’s framework. The findings reveal four types of musawwighāt al-mubtada’ bi an-nakirah: the general nakirah, the qualified nakirah, the nakirah whose predicate is a zharf, jar-majrūr, or jumlah, and the governing nakirah. The identified functions are ta‘mīm and takhṣīṣ. These findings indicate that the mubtada’ nakirah in Awa’iq Ath-Thalab is predominantly used to convey general meanings, advice, and motivation. This study contributes to Arabic syntactic studies by applying the theory of musawwighāt al-mubtada’ bi an-nakirah to the analysis of an Islamic classical text.

Abstract

Arabic song lyrics serve not only as a form of entertainment but also as a medium for representing cultural values and emotional experiences. However, studies on the representation of romanticism in contemporary Arabic song lyrics, particularly through Roland Barthes' semiotic approach combined with William Wordsworth's concept of Romanticism, remain limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the representation of romanticism in the lyrics of Fiin Layalik, Ma'qool, and Ya Ghayyeb by Fadhel Chaker through denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings. This research employed a qualitative approach using the library research method. The data consisted of words, phrases, and clauses found in the song lyrics, collected through documentation and note-taking techniques, and analyzed interpretatively using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory and William Wordsworth's concept of Romanticism. The findings reveal that romanticism is represented through four main themes: longing and loss, loneliness and nostalgia, emotional dependence and sacrifice, and destiny and the idealization of the beloved. At the denotative level, the lyrics portray acts of longing, waiting, remembering, and questioning romantic relationships. At the connotative level, these signs represent longing, loss, loneliness, nostalgia, emotional dependence, sacrifice, and the idealization of the beloved. At the mythical level, love is constructed as a profound emotional experience associated with loyalty, sacrifice, and belief in destiny. This study contributes to the development of semiotic studies in Arabic literary and song lyric analysis by demonstrating that romanticism in song lyrics functions not only as an expression of individual emotions but also as a cultural construction that shapes how people understand love and romantic relationships.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of inner conflict in Maryam Touzani's film The Blue Caftan using Kurt Lewin's psychological conflict theory within the framework of literary psychology. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a literary psychology approach. The data consisted of dialogues, actions, expressions, and scenes representing the characters' inner conflicts in the film. Data were collected through observation and note-taking techniques, while data analysis was conducted by identifying, classifying, interpreting, and describing the forms of inner conflict based on Kurt Lewin's theory. The findings reveal that no approach–approach conflict was identified, while two avoidance–avoidance conflicts and five approach–avoidance conflicts were found. These conflicts are represented through the psychological experiences of the three main characters, Halim, Mina, and Youssef, as they face dilemmas related to moral responsibility, interpersonal relationships, social pressure, economic conditions, and the acceptance of life's realities. This study demonstrates that Kurt Lewin's psychological conflict theory provides a more specific framework for explaining the representation of inner conflict in film and contributes to the development of literary psychology studies, particularly those focusing on contemporary Moroccan cinema.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the politeness strategies proposed by Brown and Levinson and the politeness principles proposed by Geoffrey Leech used by the character Afaf in the film From The Ashes directed by Khalid Fahad. This research employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive-analytical method. The research data consist of Afaf's utterances, collected through the non-participatory observation method and note-taking technique. The data were analyzed using the pragmatic identity method. The findings reveal 83 data items, consisting of 39 politeness strategy data, dominated by the bald-on record strategy with 32 occurrences, and 44 politeness principle data, dominated by violations of the tact maxim with 26 occurrences. The analysis also indicates that the bald-on record strategy may be associated with either maxim compliance or maxim violation, depending on the context of the utterance. Meanwhile, positive politeness is more frequently associated with maxim compliance, whereas the off-record strategy tends to be associated with maxim violations. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Afaf predominantly employs the bald-on record strategy and tends to violate politeness principles more frequently in her interactions.
