Abstract

This study explores the significant role of Islamic culture in shaping the social behavior and moral frameworks of contemporary urban Muslim societies, particularly in Indonesia. Drawing from a qualitative research approach, including interviews, observations, and literature review, the study investigates how key Islamic values such as mutual respect (ta’awun), honesty (sidq), modesty (haya’), and social responsibility are integrated into daily life despite the influence of secular modernity. The findings show that Islamic culture remains deeply embedded in the lives of urban Muslims, impacting their interactions within families, neighborhoods, and workplaces. Islamic cultural practices not only preserve moral values but also adapt to modern societal challenges, offering a stable framework for individuals and communities. Moreover, the study highlights how these values contribute to social resilience, the formation of ethical identities, and the integration of Islamic principles with the demands of urban, digital, and globalized contexts. The research underscores the adaptive nature of Islamic culture as it negotiates the balance between tradition and modernity, demonstrating its continued relevance in promoting social harmony and ethical conduct. The study suggests that Islamic culture is not merely a religious or static tradition but a dynamic force that shapes behavior, fosters community cohesion, and guides moral decisions in contemporary Muslim societies.

Abstract

One of the annual events held in Pariaman City is the Tabuik Tradition. This tradition is organized based on Islamic principles to honor the death of Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The celebration actually falls on the tenth of Muharram in the Hijri calendar. This study employs a descriptive methodology with a qualitative approach. To thoroughly understand how the Tabuik tradition shapes Islamic ideals in Pariaman, a qualitative method is chosen. The embedding of Islamic values within the Tabuik tradition, the function of the Tabuik tradition as a religious practice in Islam, and the role of the Tabuik tradition in building Islamic values in Pariaman are specific phenomena that are central to this approach. Interviews, observations, and documentation were used as the primary data collection methods. This approach enables scholars to examine the unique context of the Tabuik tradition in shaping Islamic ideals in Pariaman and to present a comprehensive picture of the actual situation on the ground. The results of the study indicate that the Tabuik Tradition in Pariaman is a complex amalgamation of social support, religious principles, and cultural identity. Through this tradition, the people of Pariaman strengthen their Islamic practices in response to contemporary dynamics, understand historical heritage, and express solidarity. The shared concern of both the government and the community for the preservation of the Tabuik Tradition reflects a collective desire to safeguard and nurture this rich cultural heritage so it can be passed on to future generations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between the use of ChatGPT and the self-regulated learning of students in the Islamic Education Department (PAI) at UIN Raden Intan Lampung. In line with technological advancements, ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence-based tool, has increasingly been utilized in various academic activities, including supporting independent learning processes. This research employs a quantitative approach using a correlational method, where data is collected through a questionnaire measuring both the frequency of ChatGPT use and the level of students' self-regulated learning. The sample consists of 33 randomly selected PAI students. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson correlation analysis to determine the relationship between the two variables. The results indicate a significant and positive relationship between the use of ChatGPT and students' self-regulated learning, meaning that the more frequently students use ChatGPT, the higher their level of self-regulated learning. These findings highlight the potential of ChatGPT as an effective tool for enhancing students' self-regulated learning in the digital age and provide recommendations for developing technology-based learning strategies in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between the internalization of religious moderation values and the spiritual quotient (SQ) of students, with a particular emphasis on the role of local cultural accommodation as a key element. Religious moderation values such as tawasuth, tasamuh, tawazun, and i'tidal are internalized through educational practices and school culture, and are assumed to play a role in shaping the spiritual dimensions of students, including the meaning of life, self-awareness, and transcendental relationships. The study employs a correlational quantitative approach with parametric testing to ensure the validity and significance of the relationship. The results indicate a significant and linear relationship between the internalization of religious moderation values and the students' spiritual quotient. Local cultural accommodation emerges as a strong indicator in bridging religious values with contextual spiritual experiences. The internalization of values through local religious cultural experiences helps students develop a spirituality that is non-dogmatic, yet reflective, inclusive, and transformative. The study recommends the integration of religious moderation values with local culture-based education in the development of religious and character education curricula.

Abstract

The circumcision tradition in the Saibatin Lampung indigenous community in Kunyayan Village, Wonosobo District, Tanggamus Regency, is not merely a religious ritual but also serves as a means of character education that integrates Islamic educational values with local culture. This study aims to examine the Islamic educational values embedded in this circumcision tradition, through the stages involving the ngarak maju procession, butammat, pemacakhan, and the circumcision itself. Using a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research design, data were obtained through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation from community leaders, religious figures, and community members directly involved. The findings indicate that this circumcision tradition teaches values of Aqidah (faith), Ibadah (devotion), Akhlak (morality), and social responsibility, which are reflected in the process and active participation of the community. Additionally, the values of Musyawarah (consultation), Ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood), and Piil Pesenggiri (a local cultural value) are also internalized in the social practices during the procession. The study also notes the modern adaptations accepted by the community, such as the use of professional medical personnel and digital technology, without diminishing the cultural essence and the Islamic values inherent in the ritual. Thus, this circumcision tradition functions as a form of non-formal, culture-based education that teaches character through symbols, actions, and direct community involvement.

Abstract

This study examines the socio-demographic impacts on Islamic character education among Madrasah Aliyah students, comparing urban and rural environments in Lampung Province, Indonesia. The aim of this study is to explore how social, economic, and cultural backgrounds influence students' understanding and internalization of religious moderation in character education. Data were collected through direct classroom observations, in-depth interviews with students, teachers, and madrasah principals, as well as document analysis from four selected madrasahs: Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 2 Bandar Lampung and MA Al-Utrujiyyah in urban areas, and MAN 1 Pesawaran and MA Darul Huda in rural areas. A qualitative approach with a descriptive phenomenological design was used to analyze the differences in students' understanding of religious moderation between urban and rural areas. The findings show that students in urban areas, with broader access to information and exposure to diverse cultures, exhibit a more inclusive and dynamic understanding of Islamic values such as tolerance and diversity. In contrast, students in rural areas, who are more reliant on traditional teachings and have limited access to external information, tend to have a more rigid understanding of Islamic teachings. These differences highlight the importance of adapting Islamic character education to the socio-demographic context in both urban and rural environments. This study contributes to the development of an inclusive Islamic character education model that supports religious moderation and social harmony across various environments.

Abstract

This study examines the role of religious moderation in Islamic character education among Madrasah Aliyah students, comparing urban and rural contexts. Religious moderation, which emphasizes balance, tolerance, and inclusivity, plays a crucial role in shaping students' character by preventing extremism and promoting peaceful coexistence. Through a qualitative approach, this research explores how students in urban and rural areas internalize and apply religious moderation values in their daily lives, particularly within the framework of Islamic character education. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis from students, teachers, and headmasters in both urban and rural madrasahs. The findings show significant differences in the understanding and application of religious moderation: students in urban areas, exposed to more diverse social and cultural environments, tend to adopt a more inclusive approach to religious moderation, while students in rural areas, with more traditional environments, exhibit a narrower yet committed understanding. Despite these differences, both groups emphasize the importance of religious moderation in promoting tolerance, empathy, and social responsibility. The study also identifies challenges in implementing religious moderation in both environments, particularly the limited exposure to diverse perspectives in rural areas. These findings contribute to the development of more contextual and equitable Islamic education policies and curricula, tailored to the social and geographical context of students, to ensure that religious moderation can be effectively integrated into character education.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an e-module that can enhance students' interest in learning the Qur'an and Hadith material at MTs Bustanul Ulum, Central Lampung. Using the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, this research follows five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Validation results from three experts (content, language, and design) show that this e-module is highly feasible, with scores of 92.5% for content and language validity, and 86% for design validity. Both small and large-scale trials showed positive results, with significant improvements in students' learning interest, reflected in the increase in pre-test and post-test scores. In class VII-a, student interest increased from 54% to 73%, and in class VII-b, it increased from 61% to 70%. Correlation analysis results showed a positive relationship between e-module use and academic performance improvement, with a correlation coefficient of 0.62 (p < 0.05). This study also integrates the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the e-module material, providing a learning experience relevant to global challenges. However, this study has limitations, including a small sample size limited to a single school, so the results cannot yet be generalized to broader contexts. Further research with a larger and more diverse sample, as well as measuring the long-term impact on knowledge retention and academic achievement, is necessary to deepen the understanding of the effectiveness of e-modules in Qur'an and Hadith education.
