Abstract

The occupation of weaving Tope Le’leng sarongs among the Kajang Ammatoa tribe carries a high risk of developing Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). This study aims to examine the relationship between occupational factors, specifically working posture and duration of work, and the prevalence of MSDs among Tope Le’leng weavers. This is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of all Tope Le’leng sarong weavers in the Kajang Ammatoa tribe, Bulukumba Regency, totaling 42 individuals, with total sampling technique employed. Data were collected using the Nordic Body Map questionnaire to assess MSD complaints and the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method to evaluate working posture. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed a significant relationship between working posture and MSD complaints (p = 0.000), as well as between duration of work and MSD complaints (p = 0.017). Based on these findings, it is recommended that workers take breaks every 1–2 hours during or after weaving for stretching exercises, and use seating cushions and backrests to reduce MSD risks.

Abstract

Ergonomics is an important aspect in creating a safe, comfortable, and productive work environment, but is often overlooked in the informal sector, such as motorcycle repair shops. BPJS Employment data shows a significant increase in work accident cases in Indonesia, reaching 370,747 cases in 2023. One of the biggest contributors is work-related muscle and skeletal disorders (Musculoskeletal Disorders/MSDs), which are often found in jobs with non-ergonomic postures. Research Objective: To identify ergonomic hazards faced by motorcycle repair shop workers in Maricaya Selatan Village. Research Method: The research method employed in this study is a descriptive quantitative approach with an observational research design to identify ergonomic hazards among motorcycle repair shop workers in Maricaya Selatan Village. Research Results: Shows that the informal sector such as motorcycle repair shops face significant ergonomic hazards, but are often not handled systematically due to limited facilities and low worker awareness of the importance of ergonomics, the results of the REBA assessment show high (48.6%) and very high (45.7%) occupational hazards, 48.6% of respondents are in the category "changes must be made immediately", and 45.7% are in the category "action must be taken immediately", based on the NBM assessment 77.1% of respondents stated that the work layout was inappropriate, and 11.4% stated that it was very inappropriate.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that remains a major public health problem due to its high prevalence and low detection rate. Limited community knowledge regarding risk factors and hypertension prevention contributes to increased cardiovascular complications. This community service activity aimed to improve public knowledge about hypertension prevention through health education. The program was conducted in Sunggumanai Hamlet, Belapunranga Village, Gowa Regency, involving 30 community members. The method applied was interactive lectures supported by visual media and discussions, accompanied by pre-test and post-test assessments to measure knowledge levels. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge. Prior to the intervention, 90.0% of respondents had low knowledge, while after the education session, 96.7% demonstrated adequate knowledge. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference before and after the intervention (p=0.000). These findings indicate that health education is effective in increasing community knowledge regarding hypertension prevention. Continuous and sustainable educational programs are recommended to support long-term healthy lifestyle changes in the community.

Abstract

Work climate refers to the interaction of environmental factors in the workplace. Fatigue is a common occupational health issue and can be affected by multiple factors such as work climate, age, gender, length of employment, and daily working duration. This study aimed to examine the relationship between work climate and work fatigue among furniture workers in Hertasning, Indonesia. A quantitative analytical study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in several furniture workshops in December 2023. The study involved 30 furniture workers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the questionnaire to assess subjective feelings of work fatigue and a Heat Stress Monitor to measure workplace climate conditions. The results showed a statistically significant relationship between work climate and work fatigue (p = 0.028; p < 0.05), indicating that workers exposed to unfavorable work climate conditions were more likely to experience fatigue. These findings suggest that work climate plays an important role in influencing workers’ fatigue levels. Therefore, it is recommended that furniture business owners improve workplace comfort by providing adequate rest areas with appropriate temperature control and installing cooling facilities, such as fans, to reduce heat exposure and prevent work-related fatigue.

Abstract

Exposure of school-age children to information and environmental influences that may encourage smoking behavior remains a critical concern, particularlybecause their understanding of the dangers of smoking is generally still limited.  This article presents the results of a study aimed at measuring the effect ofcounseling on the dangers of smoking on the knowledge of students at SD Inpres Peo. The research employed a quantitative method using a one-group pre-experimental design, specifically the One-Group Pre-Test and Post- Test model. The study population consisted of all fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-gradestudents at SD Inpres Peo, with a total sample of 62 students. The findings indicate a significant improvement in students’ knowledge after the counseling intervention. During the pre-test, most students demonstrated a low level of knowledge (58%), whereas after the intervention, the majority showed anadequate level of knowledge (67.8%). Results from the Paired Sample T-Test revealed that the mean knowledge score increased from 7.97 to 9.11 following the intervention (p = 0.000). The educational program on the dangers of smoking had a positive impact on increasing students’ knowledge, particularly among fifth-grade students. Support from teachers and the school principal plays an essential role in ensuring the sustainability of the program through thematic learning activities and other school initiatives. The program is expected to foster early behavioral protection and strengthen social norms within the schoolenvironment. Despite these positive outcomes, several challenges remain, including student motivation, program sustainability, and the need for long-term evaluation to ensure behavioral change. The expected outcomes of the program extend beyond improved knowledge scores, encompassing the development of collective awareness and the reinforcement of preventive values.

Abstract

Stunting is a manifestation of chronic undernutrition that occurs during critical periods of growth and development, beginning in early life. Adolescents play an important role in stunting prevention, as they represent future parents whose knowledge and awareness can influence child health outcomes. This study aimed to improve adolescents’ knowledge regarding stunting, its causes, and preventive measures as an early strategy to reduce stunting prevalence. A quantitative study design was employed using a pre-test and post-test approach. Health education sessions were delivered to adolescents in Tanetea Hamlet and Lembang Loe Hamlet, with knowledge levels measured before and after the intervention using the same questionnaire. The results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in adolescents’ knowledge after the intervention (p = 0.016; p < 0.05), indicating a meaningful difference between pre- and post-education scores. These findings suggest that health education interventions are effective in increasing adolescents’ understanding of stunting. It is recommended that structured training programs on stunting prevention be continuously provided for adolescents. Additionally, strengthening adolescents’ communication skills may enable them to disseminate stunting-related information to peers, families, and the wider community, while regular evaluations should be conducted to assess knowledge improvement and behavioral change outcomes.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of smart city initiatives has reshaped urban governance through the extensive use of digital technologies, big data, and artificial intelligence. While these developments promise greater efficiency, sustainability, and improved public services, they also generate significant ethical risks that remain underexplored in both policy and academic debates. This study critically examines the ethical implications of data-driven urban governance by focusing on four key dimensions: privacy and surveillance, social inequality and digital exclusion, power and control dynamics, and environmental sustainability. Using a qualitative critical literature review, this paper synthesizes interdisciplinary research from urban studies, governance, and technology ethics to identify systemic ethical vulnerabilities embedded within smart city frameworks. The findings indicate that pervasive data collection practices increasingly normalize urban surveillance and threaten individual privacy. Furthermore, smart technologies tend to reproduce existing social inequalities by privileging digitally connected populations while marginalizing vulnerable groups. The concentration of data ownership and algorithmic control within governmental and corporate actors reinforces asymmetrical power relations and constrains democratic participation. In addition, the pursuit of technological efficiency often conflicts with environmental sustainability due to increased energy consumption and resource exploitation. This study argues that without a robust ethical governance framework, smart cities risk evolving into technocratic and surveillance-oriented systems. Therefore, integrating ethical principles such as transparency, accountability, inclusivity, and sustainability is essential for ensuring that data-driven urban governance supports social justice and long-term urban resilience.
