Abstract

The Julah Village in North Bali is known for its traditional ikat cloth crafts. However, the number of weavers is currently declining, which is due in part to the regeneration problem. This research examines factors contributing to the shortage of ikat weaving, and it comes to the conclusion that the absence of regeneration in the inheritance process is the primary cause. Following closely behind is the need for a variety of processes in weaving production, and finally, a prolonged and expensive process for producing ikat. There are a number of initiatives that can be performed to help encourage younger generations to be interested in weaving, such as socialization, enculturation, and collaboration using tradition-based regulations. The lack of Julah Traditional Ikat weaving signifies that it's impracticable to perform religious rituals, which is the implication of scarcity in the religious system. This article offers Jari Manis strategy (Julah Mandiri, Manjemen, Investasi or Julah Independent, Management, and Investment) to stimulate weaving production, including for the local younger generation.

Abstract

The pandemic negatively impacted all aspects of human life, including tourism, which was even the worst affected, especially in Bali. This causes the legitimacy of the grand narrative of tourism to be delegitimized. This study aims to propose a paralogical idea, i.e. to build a mini-narrative as an innovation to overcome the fading legitimacy of tourism due to the pandemic. The deconstructive qualitative method is applied with heuristic and hermeneutic reading methods. Data were taken from texts contained in print media and non-print media employing observation, recording, and documentation, then analysed according to the research design by applying the theory of postmodernism. The results of the analysis show that the four forms of mini-narrative which are representing the characteristic of postmodernism namely appreciating nature, rising marginal, lessening idolization, and developing consciousness can be adopted as the concept of innovation in overcoming the fading legitimacy of tourism in the post-pandemic era.

Abstract

Settlement has become a very important basic need in human life since humans began living sedentary lives. During the ancient Balinese period of the IX to XIV centuries AD, settlements developed under the rule of ancient Balinese kings. The target of this research is the ancient Balinese settlements based on inscription sources in the Tabanan Regency area, especially the ancient settlements in Lake Bratan, Tamblingan, and Buyan, the Batukaru mountains, and the lowlands in the Tabanan area. The method used in this research is a combination of inscription and toponymy. By tracing the inscriptions, old maps, and RBI maps, as well as the archaeological data currently available, five ancient settlements were found. The five ancient settlements are the villages of Timpag, Bantiran, Batungsel, Batunya, and Mayungan. The results of this research are expected to foster the ability to choose, develop, and maintain settlements and the natural environment around settlements for the sake of the continuity of people's lives, which is also local wisdom that needs to be inherited.

Abstract

In the last five years, Karangasem Regency has always occupied the top position in the number of poor people in Bali Province. One of the pockets of poverty in Karangasem Regency is West Tianyar Village, Kubu District. In addition to natural and structural factors, cultural factors are the causes of poverty in the village. The purpose of this study is to uncover the determinants of the formation of cultural poverty and find the method of empowerment of the role of structures and agents in poverty reduction in this region. Data was collected through observation, interview, and document analysis techniques. Data is analyzed by structuration theory (agency-structure) as the basis for interpretation. This study found that poverty always involves the circularity of the relationship between natural, structural, and cultural poverty so that it is difficult for people to overcome the conditions of poverty faced. By empowering the role of structures and agents, efforts to solve the problem of cultural poverty in West Tianyar Village can gradually be eliminated.

Abstract

Today's deeds of terrorism are difficult to get rid of with the notion of radicalism which threatens state security. The tragedy of the Bali Bombing 1 in 2002 and 2 in 2005, sparked public concern that made the government must be more profound in strengthening the strict flow of entrances in every area, such as airports, terminals, and ports. This study aims to explain how the strategic security measures carried out by the Regional Government, especially Jembrana Regency as the owner of Gilimanuk Port access, which is directly adjacent to the island of Java, to overcome the entry of the threat of terrorism into Bali. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a human security framework. This research obtained an answer through a series of measures such as a series of policies in terms of legal instruments, a series of socialization in terms of a grass-roots approach, and formulating policies for the formation of a Conflict Team and the formation of an Early Awareness Team (Wasdin) equipped with a regional Wasdin Team and The Integrated Team for Handling Social Conflict. Furthermore, the Jembrana Regency Government is said to have been relatively good in foreseeing and overseeing terrorism issues in Bali, primarily in Gilimanuk Port.

Abstract

In recent years, the Freedom to Learn and Freedom Campus (MBKM) initiative have been vigorously implemented. These include activities such as internships and student exchanges. While the Freedom to Learn program must be welcomed, it is important to note that some forms of this program are not entirely new, as student exchanges have been conducted at the high school level before. This article outlines the Student Exchange Program (PPS) through the biographical account of a legendary educator from Bali, Wayan Djiwa Duarsa, who founded and led State Teacher Education School (SPGN) Denpasar for 27 years (1959-1986). Data was collected through interviews, focused group discussions, and document studies. The analysis results indicate that in the early 1980s, Djiwa Duarsa pioneered the Student Exchange Program across Java and Bali, aiming to broaden the understanding of the archipelagic values among students and instill a sense of nationalism. In addition to the monumental PPS program, Djiwa Duarsa's biography also depicts the history of SPGN in Bali and its achievements at the national level. This article is expected to contribute to providing an initial study on the history of teacher education in Bali, which is useful for improving the quality of education for the progress of the nation.
