Abstract

This study aims to analyze Verbstellung (verb order) errors in German verbal communication made by A2-B1 level students through podcast assignments in the Mündliche Kommunikation course. The analysis was conducted using Pit Corder's error analysis theory approach, which provided the researcher with the opportunity to identify the types and characteristics of the errors. Verbstellung is an important aspect of German sentence structure that is often a source of errors due to mother tongue interference and lack of understanding of grammatical structures. Data was collected from the transcription of student podcasts, then analyzed to find the dominant error patterns. This study found that verb position errors, especially in subordinate clauses, are a major challenge for beginner learners. Most of the errors indicate that learners do not fully understand German sentence structure, so a teaching approach that focuses more on practice and error correction is needed.

Abstract

In foreign language learning, understanding is not limited to basic sounds such as vowels and consonants, but also includes suprasegmental features that influence meaning and clarity in communication. One important suprasegmental feature is word stress. For Indonesian learners of German, applying correct word stress often presents a particular challenge. This study aims to examine how learners perceive and produce word stress in the German language. A descriptive qualitative methode with an auditive phonetic approach was employed to investigate the perception and production of word stress as a suprasegmental element in German. Data were collected in two stages: (1) a production task involving the oral reading of words and pseudowords, which were analyzed auditorily, and (2) a perception task in which participants listened to recorded words and identified the position of stress. The analysis compared the accuracy of participants’ production and perception and identified common patterns of error. The findings are expected to serve as a basis for developing more contextual and learner-oriented suprasegmental phonetics teaching materials for Indonesian learners of German.

Abstract

This research and development aimed to produce a bilingual digital booklet (Indonesia-Mandarin language) as a media for tourism information in Malang City aimed at tourists from China. This booklet is designed in the form of an e-book with an attractive appearance and equipped with images of tourist destinations, making it easier to convey information visually and interactively. The advantages of digital booklets compared to printed media are their durability, environmental friendliness, and ease of access via digital devices. The development process follows the five steps of the ADDIE model: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Implementation was carried out by involving Chinese students from Guangxi Normal University and Chinese tourists through online testing. Validation was carried out by material and media experts, and for the results showed about product was suitable for use after revision. This digital booklet not only helps Chinese tourists get to know tourist destinations in Malang City, but can also be used by local tourists thanks to the presentation of information in two languages.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the use of conjunctions by third-semester students of the German Language Education program at Universitas Negeri Malang in their oral communication tasks in the form of vlogs, and to identify the grammatical errors present in their usage. These vlogs are outputs of the course Mündliche Konversation, which is designed to train students' speaking skills in a realistic, independent, and communicative context. This study employs a qualitative approach using content analysis methods. Data were collected from the documentation of eight group videos created by students and analyzed based on German grammar theory by Helbig and Buscha (1996). The results show that students used various types of conjunctions, both coordinating and subordinating, with a predominance of subordinating conjunctions such as dass and weil. Despite attempts to construct complex sentence structures, several errors were found, including errors in verb placement, verb selection, absence of a subject, and the lack of a verb in clauses, indicating the need for further grammatical development.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of social media in increasing students' extrinsic motivation, both in the social and instrumental categories, in learning German. Through a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected from 51 student respondents who are active users of social media who have attended German language courses for at least one semester. A 5-point Likert scale questionnaire was used to measure three main variables, namely intensity of social media use, instrumental extrinsic motivation, and social extrinsic motivation. The results show that platforms such as Instagram and TikTok are significantly utilized by students as a means of self-learning, expanding vocabulary, and strengthening social connections with online learning communities. Social media is also proven to support learning that is more flexible, interesting and relevant to the digital needs of today's students. This finding confirms that social media has great potential as an additional learning medium that can externally motivate students, both for social (community acceptance) and instrumental (career and academic development) purposes.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive learning media called Jiapu Puzzle to support students’ understanding of the kinship system in Chinese culture, which is a crucial component of Mandarin language education. The media was developed using the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and initial evaluation stages. Development involved classroom observations of grade XI IBB students at SMA Laboratorium UM, teacher interviews, and validation by media and content experts. The final product is a family tree puzzle board representing kinship structures on both paternal and maternal sides, complete with narratives and Hanzi illustrations. Validation results showed that the media was highly feasible in terms of visual appeal, content quality, and usability. The implementation stage revealed positive student responses, especially in terms of engagement, enthusiasm, and comprehension. Using a conventional gamification approach, Jiapu Puzzle proved effective as an alternative medium to support engaging and contextual Mandarin language and cultural learning.

Abstract

Tourism is a strategic sector that contributes significantly to global economic growth. In Indonesia, this sector serves as one of the main pillars of national economic development, particularly with the increasing number of international tourists—including those from China—visiting various destinations such as Malang City. This phenomenon opens up new opportunities in the job market, especially for graduates of the Mandarin Language Education Study Program. This study aims to identify the career potential of students in this program within the tourism industry. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to students and tourism industry practitioners. The analysis results show that most students express a strong interest in pursuing careers in this sector. The most in-demand and popular profession is that of a tour guide, especially those who are able to communicate in Mandarin. Nevertheless, the main challenge faced is the lack of practical foreign language proficiency and other supporting skills. Therefore, it is necessary to improve competencies through language training and professional skill development so that graduates are better prepared to compete in the job market, particularly in the tourism sector, which is based on service and cross-cultural communication.

Abstract

Nerd Girl is a German comic by Sarah Burrini. This study examines the challenges that arise in translating the German comic Nerd Girl into Indonesian. Comics as visual literary works require translators to maintain a balance between linguistic, cultural, and visual aspects. The main objective of this study is to identify forms of incompatibility between the source text (SL) and target text (TL), and to describe the translation strategies used. This study uses a qualitative approach with case study methods and content analysis, where data are obtained from the original comic text and the translation results carried out by the researcher herself. The results of the study show that the main challenges include translating idioms, figurative language, slang, cultural references, wordplay, and character speech styles. The translation strategies used include cultural adaptation, the use of functional equivalents, and a contextual approach based on visuals and narrative logic. In conclusion, the success of comic translation depends not only on linguistic accuracy, but also on understanding the cultural context and character characterization.

Abstract

In recent years, Algerian universities have faced a new challenge: adapting to the rapid rise of artificial intelligence while still closing long-standing digital gaps. This contribution looks at how digital literacy is evolving in higher education through national strategies, local policies, and direct engagement with faculty members. Based on policy texts, institutional reports, and hands-on experience supporting faculty development, it sheds light on the gap between national ambitions and the everyday realities encountered by teachers and students. While new platforms and tools are being deployed, key challenges remain: limited infrastructure, lack of training, and the uncritical use of AI tools in learning environments. Rather than treating digital transformation as a purely technical shift, this paper argues for a broader, more grounded approach, one that includes training, ethical reflection, and adaptation to each academic discipline. A practical roadmap is proposed to help institutions move forward: start with training, provide clear frameworks, and adapt strategies to local needs and contexts. At its core, this reflection suggests that meaningful change in education doesn’t begin with tools, but with people. Supporting teachers and students in thoughtful, inclusive ways is essential if AI is to serve learning, rather than replace it.

Abstract

This research analyses the representation of Gretel's crisis of trust in the film Secret Magic Control Agency using Roland Barthes' theory. The main focus of this research is to identify how the crisis of trust is reflected in Gretel's behaviour and character interactions. This research reveals the factors that influence the crisis of trust, including environmental influences and relationship dynamics with other characters, as well as experiences inspired by the classic story of Hansel und Gretel from the Brothers Grimm. In addition, this research also discusses the role of film as a learning medium. Referring to Weisarkurnai's (2017) opinion, films are considered aesthetic works and information tools that are entertaining and educational. On the other hand, the moral, ethical, and ethical values contained in fairy tales function as a means of learning for children, as explained by Setiawan (2018). Through this analysis, it is expected to understand the complexity of Gretel's character and the relevance of the values contained in the narrative.
