Abstract

Language functions as a media of communication and a media of delivering information. One of the most popular and popular social media is Instagram. Instagram is a social media that can be accessed easily and is useful as a means of providing information. The purpose of this research is to obtain an objective description of the form of speech acts and the functions of speech acts in President Joko Widodo's Instagram caption. This study uses a qualitative approach. The data source for this research is President Joko Widodo's Instagram Caption. The research data is in the form of quotes of words and sentences on President Joko Widodo's Instagram caption. Data was collected by reading technique, listening technique, and note taking technique. Furthermore, the data is classified based on its form and function and then analyzed using interactive model analysis techniques. Based on the results of data analysis, the following findings were obtained. First, the forms of speech acts on President Jokowi's Instagram caption include assertive speech acts, directive speech acts, expressive speech acts, commissive speech acts, and declarative speech acts. Second, the functions of speech acts in the caption of President Joko Widodo's Instagram include the functions of explaining, declaring, showing, ordering, asking, inviting, forbidding, thanking, expecting, congratulating, condolences, promising, and inaugurating.

Abstract

This article aims to view the Kampus Merdeka program in a critical view. The Ministry of Education of Republic of Indonesia announced this program on 2020. This program tends to give more freedom for universities and students in their educational progress and purposes. One of the most important goals of this program is to graduate alumni who are ready to face the working field as the alumni of theuniversities nowadays do not link and match with the job demands. Despite the drawbacks of this concept, there are some benefits can be obtained from this program but with some criticism in it. This research is based on library research which analyses the relevant books and articles. It can be concluded that Kampus Merdeka is potential for developing multidiciplinary studies and maximizing the process oflearning in universities. It must be noted too that the main goal of education should not be neglected; it is to produce a good man. Only after fulfilling this main goal, the Kampus Merdeka program will benefit us more comprehensively.

Abstract

Results of observations made at MTs Islamiyah Sukopuro, in that school there are problems in solving math problems on SPLDV material from a cognitive perspective. In accordance with what was conveyed by the mathematics subject teacher for grade 8A, in the ongoing learning process it was found that the students' understanding of the material was low. This is indicated by the teacher giving questions to students, and not a few students make mistakes when working on these questions. The mistakes made by students include not understanding the meaning of the problem, errors in counting, errors in mastering formulas and mathematical concepts. So the purpose of this study is to describe the problems in students' errors in solving mathematics problems in SPLDV material in terms of cognitive and describe efforts to increase student understanding in SPLDV material in terms of cognitive. The method in this study used a qualitative descriptive method. This research was conducted at MTs Islamiyah Sukopuro, Jabung district, Malang district. The subjects in this study were grade 8A MTs Islamiyah Sukopuro. This study uses tests and interviews in the data collection process. The results of this study used tests and interviews in the data collection process. Based on the results of data analysis, this study can conclude that students' errors are reading problems, misunderstanding problems, incorrect procedures, missing conclusions, conceptual errors, drawing conclusions, language interpretation errors, calculation or computational errors, less thorough, hasty attitude.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ability of students to open learning in the English Education Study Program, sixth semester in the subject of basic teaching skills. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with an observation sheet instrument and an assessment rubric, from the results of this study it can be obtained data on opening skills as follows: Motivation Indicators & Attracting Students' Attention = Less Score: 0%, sufficient: 6%, good : 61% and excellent: 33%. Indicators provide a reference: Poor score: 35%, adequate: 37%, good: 28% and very good: 0%. And the indicators make the connection: Poor score: 0%, adequate: 50%, good: 41% and very good: 9%. In the second practice after the evaluation, the scores were obtained as follows: Motivation Indicator & Attracting Student Attention = Poor Score: 0%, adequate: 0%, good: 50% and very good: 50%. Indicators provide a reference: Poor score: 0%, adequate: 28%, good: 39% and very good: 33%. And indicators make the connection: Poor score: 0%, adequate: 0%, good: 61% and very good: 39%. From these results it can be concluded that the ability to open lessons in semester 6 students of the 2021/2022 academic year is good.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe students' mathematical literacy skills in linear program courses during the covid-19 pandemic. This type of research is a descriptive qualitative research that has been carried out in the Mathematics Education Study Program of IKIP Budi Utomo. The technique of taking research subjects used purposive random sampling method with research instruments in the form of written tests and interview tests. Based on the research data obtained, it was found that the students of the Mathematics Education Study Program of IKIP Budi Utomo had very good mathematical literacy skills. Indicators of mathematical literacy ability, namely formulated, employed, interprete and evaluate are in the very good category

Abstract

Peneliti lebih fokus pada keterampilan berbicara dalam kelas Basic English Speaking karena berbicara dianggap sebagai keterampilan yang sulit dan rumit untuk dipelajari oleh mahasiswa tahun pertama. Dalam berbicara, mereka harus menghasilkan ide, kata-kata, kalimat sehingga mereka dapat berkomunikasi dengan baik dan benar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mahasiswa dengan menggunakan gambar tematik; dan untuk mendeskripsikan hasil penggunaan media gambar tematik dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara mahasiswa di kelas Basic English Speaking. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan, ditemukan bahwa penggunaan gambar tematik secara keseluruhan dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara mahasiswa. Hal ini dapat dilihat melalui tindakan siklus I dan siklus II yang menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan berbicara. Pada siklus I dan juga observasi keterampilan berbicara mahasiswa menggunakan media gambar menunjukkan 15 atau 48% mahasiswa nilainya di bawah kriteria ketuntasan studi. Nilai mahasiswa pada siklus II meningkat dibandingkan pada siklus I. Hasil rata-rata kelas mencapai 85%. Oleh karena itu, gambar tematik dapat membantu mahasiswa belajar berbicara dengan lebih mudah. Para peneliti menyarankan kepada dosen untuk membuat inovasi baru dalam pembelajaran.

Abstract

This study analyses Lara Pangkon's utterances at the ceremony of temu manten in Kec. Ngantang, in order to know the forms of speech acts, explain their meaning and how they are conveyed. In this research, the method used was descriptive qualitative research method, with the data source of this research is the utterances in Lara Pangkon as the main data source from and documentation books as additional data sources. In the end, this research shows that each form of speech delivered contains meanings and symbols that contain speech acts. After being studied, it can be concluded that from the 2 (two) parts of Lara Pangkon's possession, the speeches presented by both Pamasrah and Panampi contained 3 (three) expressive speech acts, 3 (three) directive speech acts, 3 (three) assertive speech acts and 2 (two) clear and commissive speech acts that can be conveyed briefly and straightforwardly.

Abstract

Innovation in teaching listening is urgently needed. This study resulted the questionnaire survey of students’ needs of listening subject. These results were compared to the students’ mid-term results and Basic Listening learning outcomes. The survey was completed by 100 first-year English Education students. The analysis and comparison were objected to find out the answers of these questions: what barriers obstructed the progress of the students’ listening skill? And what were the students’ listening skills needs? The study found that there is an interstice between students’ needs and the learning got in relating to listening comprehension. Hence, this study expected that the its findings can help to grant preferable understanding of the students’ needs and developing the curriculum properly.

Abstract

The bilingual children story books have distinctive characteristics, one of them is having onomatopoeia. This qualitative descriptive study aimed to determine the translation method and procedure used in translating onomatopoeia and word play in Little Abid Series in spiritual and general values (11 books) and Seri Dongeng Dunia Binatang (7 books). In Little Abid Series in spiritual and general values the onomatopoeias or word play were expressed in the book Jujur Itu Hebat (1), Aku Bangga pada Mereka (1), and Aku Rajin Mengaji (1). In Dongeng Dunia Binatang they were expressed in the book Bebek dan Burung Hantu (2), Semut dan Lebah (1), and Rusa yang Sombong (2). The translator of Little Abid Series and translator of Dongeng Dunia Binatang in translating onomatopoeias and word play used semantic method and functional equivalence procedure because the translators wanted to emphasize the understanding of the early age readers by using words that are simple and easy to understand. Therefore, the researchers suggests that the adaptation translation method can be used to translate children’s books since in order to give maximum benefit to the readers. It means that the translators must be more creative in arranging words in the target language.

Abstract

Speaking skill is one of the most important skill to be taught for English department students. Most activities in speaking class are oral presentations. However, there are many students admitted that they have obstacles in speaking performance. The main aim of this study was to find out the factors influencing students’ speaking performance in speaking class. Furthermore, it was also used to know the difficulties faced by the students of English department at IKIP Budi Utomo Malang. This study applied the descriptive qualitative method which describes the findings and the result of the study qualitatively. The data were collected by using observation, questionnaire, and documentation. This analysis found that both linguistics and non-linguistics aspects influenced students’ speaking performance. The linguistics aspect includes vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar while the non-linguistic aspect covers confidence, anxiety, and topical knowledge.
