Abstract

This survey-based research investigates the perceptions and practices of English Language Study Program students regarding the utilization of social media to enhance their speaking skills. The aim is to explore how the students perceive and engage with social media platforms as tools for improving their speaking abilities. The study employs a survey method, utilizing a questionnaire as the primary data collection instrument. The participants consist of English Language Study Program students who are in the 5th semester of an institution in Malang. The collected data is analysed through descriptive statistical analysis. The findings reveal that a significant proportion of the students hold positive perceptions towards the use of social media for enhancing their speaking skills. They perceive social media as a convenient and accessible platform for language learning, providing them with opportunities to practice speaking, access authentic language resources, and engage in meaningful interactions with other English speakers. Common practices among the participants include joining language learning communities, following language learning accounts, and participating in speaking challenges or discussions on social media platforms. However, the survey also highlights some challenges and limitations associated with the use of social media for speaking skill improvement. These include concerns regarding the authenticity of language input, potential distractions, and the need for self-regulation in selecting reliable language learning resources on social media. These findings contribute to the understanding of students' perspectives on the utilization of social media for speaking skill enhancement. The results suggest that social media platforms can serve as valuable supplementary tools for practicing speaking and creating a language-rich environment outside the classroom. To optimize the benefits of social media for speaking skill development, it is recommended that language educators integrate social media-based activities into their teaching approaches and provide guidance on effective and responsible use of social media for language learning purposes.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk mendeskripsikan pengalaman dan persepsi mahasiswa terhadap penggunaan self-crafted vocabulary cards dalam meningkatkan motivasi mahasiswa dalam membaca di mata kuliah Basic Reading. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan wawancara terhadap mahasiswa yang menempuh mata kuliah Basic Reading. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa memandang kartu kosakata sebagai metode yang cepat, efektif, dan nyaman untuk mempelajari kosakata baru. Metode ini juga memungkinkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa untuk mengingat bentuk L1 dan makna L2 secara terpisah. Temuan penelitian ini juga memberi kontrinbusi pada pemhaman tentang strategi pembelajaran kosakata yang efektif dan mendukung integrasi media visual dalam pembelajaran bahasa.

Abstract

Some students have difficulty in speaking English, and this happens because of various problems. One ofthe problems is vocabulary and pronunciation. Based on theproblems stated, this study aims to explain the use ofthe Powtoon application as one of the learning resources needed by students.Powtoonis one of alternativeapplication learning speaking for students now days. Powtoon application can improve student’s speaking abilitybecause Powtoon application is a cartoon learning video that very interesting.

Abstract

Today's world is competing to create and utilize technology and information. The rapid development of world civilization is also a challenge for the world of education. To prepare for this, education is expected to design and implement learning that can encourage the skills needed in the 21st century. Some of the skills needed to face the challenges of the 21st century are communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creative thinking (4Cs). Project-based learning is one of the learning methods that does not only focus on results, but also pays attention to every process that occurs, and is believed to be able to encourage the desire to research and ability to solve problems, think creatively and critically, and increase the collaboration and communication power of students. This study proves that the effect of project�based learning on improving the 4C ability of students Grade V SDKr. Shining Star has a 84.7% Of success rate. This is shown during the learning process students are able to discuss with peers in group members and state that working with groups is more effective than working independently, besides that students are also able to present problem solving and produce products that are in accordance with the plans made by the group. The research method used is descriptive qualitative which makes 12 students as research subjects.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of teacher professionalism in the post-Covid 19 pandemic era on student achievement. In this research carried out using a type of descriptive correlational research. The sampling technique for this study used simple random sampling. Based on this study, a sample of 40 students in each class could be taken while for teachers there were 6 people. After that, samples were taken, namely the level of teacher education, teaching experience, professional development and level of knowledge about teacher professionalism. The results showed that there was a significant influence of teacher professionalism on student achievement.

Abstract

Culture is manifested in several forms such as behavior, myths, beliefs and many other forms of culture. The birth of culture is caused by human desire to meet the needs of life. These desires form a tradition that is passed down from generation to generation. Meanwhile, culture can be interpreted as a view in looking at good or bad human experience in interacting and influencing the way of thinking. In the cultural life of a community group, it will not be separated from the flow of modernization which brings changes in all aspects of life. This is one of the indications and the need for confirmation in an effort to maintain the existence of local culture. In this study the authors conducted research related to the existence of the lewak tapo ritual in Sukutokan Village, Kelubagolit District. The data sources used in this study are primary data sources and literature obtained by interview techniques. In this study the authors analyzed the data with descriptive qualitative techniques which aim to describe phenomena in the field. The findings in this study illustrate that the lewak tapo ritual itself contains social meanings and beliefs. Social meaning is realized through social values that are built such as the values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, justice and solidarity. Meanwhile, the meaning of belief is realized through communication relations that are built between families who are still alive and family members who have died unnaturally. The message contained in this ritual is awareness not to repeat the same mistake because the purpose of this ritual is to find the cause of someone's death in an unnatural way. Given that this ritual is a sacred ritual, the existence of this ritual has indirectly been treated because of awareness of unnatural deaths.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris adalah kondisi peradangan kronis pada folikel pilosebaceous, ditandai dengan lesi seperti komedo, papula dan kista. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara kejadian acne vulgaris dengan tingkat pengetahuan, perilaku pengobatan dan rasa percaya diri pada siswa SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Pemalang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah cross-sectional dengan sampel 91 siswa yang dipilih secara purposive. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuisioner yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji Chi-Square. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kejadian acne vulgaris terbanyak ada pada kategori ringan (50.64%), tingkat pengetahuan baik (85%), perilaku pengobatan swamedikasi (72.53%) dan rasa percaya diri tinggi (39.56%). Terdapat hubungan signifikan antara kejadian acne vulgaris dengan tingkat pengetahuan, perilaku pengobatan dan rasa percaya diri. Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory condition of the pilosebaceous follicles, characterized by lesions such as blackheads and cysts. This study aims to determine the relationship between acne vulgaris incidence and knowledge level, treatment behavior, and self�confidence among SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Pemalang students. The study used a cross�sectional method with 91 purposively selected students. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire and analyzed with the Chi-Square test. Results showed that mild acne vulgaris was most common (50.64%), with good knowledge (85%), self�medication behavior (72.53%), and high self-confidence (39.56%). Significant relationships were found between acne vulgaris and knowledge level, treatment behavior, and self-confidence.

Abstract

Human development is a theme that has long been a concern in various philosophical traditions. The philosophies of Hegel and Confucius offer two different yet complementary approaches to understanding the process of human development. Hegel, with his dialectical theory, views human development as a historical process that occurs through social conflict and changes in individual self-consciousness within the framework of history. According to Hegel, individuals can only achieve full self-awareness through interaction with society and larger social changes. Meanwhile, Confucius, in his morality and virtue-focused thought, viewed that human development lies in the formation of good moral character, which is reflected in harmonious social relationships and appreciation of virtuous values. This research aims to compare the two concepts of human development and explore the similarities and differences between the views of Hegel and Confucius. The results of the comparison show that both philosophers agree on the importance of social interaction in human development, although they differ in their focus Hegel emphasizes the role of history and social conflict, while Confucius emphasizes moral virtue and harmonious social relations. The findings show the relevance of both philosophies in the modern context, both in the fields of education, social ethics, and developmental psychology. The study also shows that the thoughts of Hegel and Confucius can be further applied to solve contemporary social problems such as social inequality and character building in a pluralistic society.

Abstract

This study examines the presence of the meaning, understanding and model of the Muhammadiyah religious movement. This mass organization has quite a large influence, especially in Indonesia. Founded by K. Ahmad Dahlan on November 18, 1912, with an important goal, namely: Upholding and Upholding the Islamic Religion so that a True Islamic Society is Realized. This paper focuses on the concept of the meaning of the presence, understanding and model of the Muhammadiyah religious movement. This study uses a type of library research, data collection is carried out by collecting various relevant sources of information, related to notes, papers, books, news, articles, to public journals, conducting analysis with a content analysis model, describing in depth, until finally drawing valid conclusions from various sources of documents studied. The results of the study show that the presence of Muhammadiyah is not just a religious organization, but as a socio-transformational movement that instills Islamic values ​​substantially into the structure of society. Its moderate and progressive religious understanding, as well as its movement model based on service and empowerment, make Muhammadiyah an important entity in the formation of the face of progressive Indonesian Islam and presenting His Grace to the universe.
