Abstract

The development of digital technology has expanded the meaning of literacy from merely reading and writing skills into a more complex competence encompassing digital, media, and information literacy. The main problem addressed in this study is how basic literacy supports multiliteracy skills in the digital era, and how the integration among various literacy types can shape critical and creative thinking capacities in facing modern information flows. This research aims to analyze the strategic role of basic literacy as the foundation for multiliteracy development and to examine its integration within Indonesia’s educational and literacy culture context. The method used is library research with a conceptual analysis of 30 recent national and international scholarly sources. The findings indicate that basic literacy plays a central role in developing effective multiliteracy, serving as the basis for critical, logical, and ethical reasoning in processing digital information. The integration of basic, media, technological, and visual literacy forms an adaptive multiliteracy framework suited for contemporary challenges. It is concluded that reading and writing literacy is not merely an initial learning stage but a strategic pillar sustaining all forms of modern literacy. The study recommends that strengthening basic literacy should become a national policy priority and be integrated into educational curricula to prepare Indonesian society to engage critically, creatively, and responsibly in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the quality of services provided by the Universitas Sebelas Maret Library Situs web based on user perceptions. The assessment focuses on five key dimensions of the Delone and McLean information system success model: system quality, information quality, service quality, use, and user satisfaction. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed in this study, with data collected through an online questionnaire distributed to 30 active UNS students who had experience using the library website. The findings reveal that all dimensions received high scores, with user satisfaction being the highest (effectiveness 93.4%, efficiency 90%). System quality, information quality, and use also received positive evaluations. However, the service quality dimension, particularly in terms of speed and responsiveness, still requires improvement. These results highlight the importance of enhancing digital service responsiveness and integrating library services into the broader online learning ecosystem. This study contributes to the development of user perception–based evaluation systems for digital information services in higher education, and offers strategic recommendations for improving the quality and sustainability of digital library service usage.

Abstract

Abstract

This article discusses the strategic repositioning of university libraries as agents of social change within the framework of the Impacted Campus policy. Libraries, which have been positioned as academic support units, need to be reformulated to become a major actor in community service, community empowerment, and knowledge-based social development. Using the literature review method, this article examines theories, policies, and practices both from Indonesia and abroad that demonstrate the real contribution of libraries in promoting community literacy, inclusive services, and knowledge co-production. The results of the study show that libraries have great potential in bridging the gap between academics and the social needs of the community. However, the realization of this concept faces a number of challenges, including an institutional structure that is not yet integrative, limited librarian capacity, and the absence of performance indicators that support the social function of libraries. The implications of these findings show that a systematic institutional strategy is needed to make libraries a strategic node in the implementation of the tridharma of higher education. This includes strengthening human resource capacity, developing cross-unit collaborative models, and supporting policies that are oriented towards social impact.

Abstract

Reference services are one of the main pillars in organizing academic libraries, especially in helping users find and utilize information effectively. This study aims to describe and analyze the role of reference service librarians at the Universitas Putra Indonesia (UPI) YPTK Library in meeting the information needs of users. The main focus of this study is how librarians carry out their functions as information facilitators, educators, and mediators between users and information sources, both print and digital. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with a field study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with librarians and users, and documentation related to reference service activities. The results of the study indicate that librarians at UPI YPTK have a very strategic role in providing information search guidance, helping users use electronic catalogs and databases, and providing reference consultations for academic needs such as final assignments, research, and writing scientific papers. Both informants interviewed by the author were satisfied with the service provided by the reference service librarian. However, this study also found several challenges, such as limited human resources, lack of ongoing training for librarians, and low awareness of users of the existence of reference services. For this reason, it is recommended to improve librarian competence through information literacy training, strengthening service promotion, and developing a technology-based reference service system. Overall, the role of reference service librarians at UPI YPTK is very important in bridging the information needs of users with relevant, accurate, and accountable information sources. This role not only supports academic activities but also encourages the creation of a campus community that is information literate and independent in learning.
