Abstract

This study aims to identify and synthesize factors influencing English language learning through a systematic literature review approach. The research analyzes empirical studies published within the last decade to determine dominant variables affecting learning outcomes and to develop a comprehensive conceptual understanding of English learning processes. The findings indicate that English language learning is shaped by the interaction of internal and external factors operating simultaneously. Internal factors, particularly learning motivation, emerge as the most influential determinant because they directly affect learners’ engagement, persistence, and use of learning strategies. Psychological variables such as self-confidence and language anxiety are also found to significantly influence learners’ performance and participation. In addition, external factors—including teaching methods, teacher quality, learning environment, and technology integration—play essential roles in shaping learning experiences. Interactive teaching approaches and strong pedagogical competence are identified as the most impactful external contributors to successful language acquisition. The review further reveals that learning outcomes cannot be explained by a single variable but rather by a multidimensional framework in which cognitive, affective, and environmental elements interact dynamically. These findings highlight the importance of adopting integrative instructional strategies that address both learner characteristics and instructional conditions. The study provides theoretical contributions by reinforcing multidimensional perspectives of language learning and practical implications for educators, institutions, and researchers seeking to enhance English language teaching effectiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning model in improving students’ understanding of moral values in Islamic Religious Education. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design with a sample of 30 students. The instrument used was a moral value comprehension test. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality testing, and the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the mean score increased from 60.20 to 78.93. The Wilcoxon test produced a significance value of < 0.001, indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. These findings demonstrate that the Problem-Based Learning model effectively improves students’ understanding of moral values. This learning model encourages active participation, critical thinking, and reflective moral reasoning. Therefore, Problem-Based Learning can be used as an innovative instructional strategy to enhance the quality of Islamic Religious Education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of local culture-based education through the Hegong Maumere traditional dance in shaping students’ character at SDI C-III Wolomarang, Sikka Regency. Character education at the elementary school level serves as a fundamental foundation for developing students’ personalities rooted in national cultural values. Amid globalization challenges that potentially erode local identity, integrating local culture into the learning process becomes a relevant strategy to instill moral and social values. Hegong dance, as a cultural heritage of the Maumere community in Sikka Regency, embodies values such as togetherness, discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and cultural pride. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the integration of Hegong dance into extracurricular activities and arts education significantly contributes to shaping students’ discipline, self-confidence, responsibility, cooperation, and appreciation of local culture. Therefore, local culture-based education proves effective as a strategy for strengthening character education in elementary schools.

Abstract

Abstract

The present study sets out to explore and analyze the instructional strategies employed by English teachers in teaching vocabulary to tenth-grade students at SMKN 1 Tapaktuan during the 2024/2025 academic year. Vocabulary acquisition is widely recognized as a cornerstone of language learning, and teachers’ choices of strategies significantly shape learners’ success. This research not only identifies the specific strategies used but also examines the contextual and pedagogical factors that influence teachers’ decisions. By doing so, it aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how vocabulary instruction is managed in a vocational high school setting, where students often face unique challenges compared to those in general academic tracks.   The study adopts a qualitative descriptive design, which is particularly suited to capturing the richness and complexity of classroom practices. Unlike quantitative approaches that focus on numerical data, qualitative research emphasizes meaning, interpretation, and context. In this case, the voices and experiences of teachers are central. Two English teachers were selected as the primary subjects, allowing for an in-depth exploration of their perspectives and practices. Data collection relied on semi-structured interviews, which provided flexibility for teachers to elaborate on their experiences while ensuring that key topics were consistently addressed. In addition, documentation such as lesson plans and syllabi was analyzed to triangulate findings and provide evidence of how strategies were planned and implemented.  The analytical framework was guided by Miles and Huberman’s model of qualitative data analysis, which involves three interconnected steps: data reduction, data display, and conclusion verification (Sugiyono, 2015). Data reduction refers to the process of selecting, simplifying, and focusing on the most relevant information. Data display involves organizing information in a way that makes patterns and relationships visible. Finally, conclusion verification ensures that interpretations are credible and supported by evidence. This systematic approach allowed the researchers to move beyond surface-level descriptions and develop well-grounded insights into vocabulary teaching practices.
