Abstract

Architecture is the realization of cultural values, history, and wisdom of the local community reflected in the physical form of buildings. This research aims to examine and compare the visual character of the physical elements of two cultural buildings in Pontianak City. These two buildings represent two majority groups, namely Malay and Dayak cultures, which have distinctive visual characters and physical architectural elements. The research used case study method, field observation, visual documentation, and identification of the physical elements. The results showed that physical elements can be seen with symbolic shapes, materials, colors, and ornaments. The visual character of the Kadariah Palace is identical to the shape of the linmas roof and multi-storey saddle, dominated by golden yellow, as well as floral carvings and repetitive geometric patterns full of symbolic meaning, and historical physical elements are also found as supporting attributes of the area. While Rumah Radakng found several elements in the form of massive stage structures, repetitive columns, predominantly red colors and natural colors of wood, as well as typical Dayak geometric ornaments that have spiritual symbolic meaning. Although different in visual and symbolic expression, both are important representations of Pontianak City's local architectural identity that is deeply rooted in their respective cultures. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for readers who need different visual characters and appropriate physical elements to represent Pontianak City in the development of a cultural building.

Abstract

In an increasingly competitive business environment, the physical representation of a company such as its office building plays a crucial role in establishing corporate identity and image. This study examines how corporate identity elements are applied to the facade of WU Tower Nabati and HO Soetta Nabati office buildings in Bandung. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and referring to Francis D.K. Ching’s theory on facade elements, six corporate identity criteria corporate image, logo, brand, brand awareness, brand image, and corporate color are analyzed through visual observation. The results show that both buildings do not fully reflect the company’s identity through their facades. WU Tower performs better in presenting a professional image and strong brand perception, while HO Soetta benefits from a more strategic location. However, visual representation of products, company colors, and signage remain insufficient. This study highlights the importance of integrating corporate identity into architectural design to strengthen the company's character and competitive presence.

Abstract

Drug abuse is a serious threat that impacts social stability and public health. This study aims to analyze the forms of community participation in the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illegal Drug Trafficking (P4GN) program, particularly in the RT.05 Pondok Bambu area of East Jakarta. The approach used is a qualitative approach with methods of interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants consist of representatives from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN RI), community leaders, and local residents selected through purposive sampling. The results of the study indicate that community participation in the decision-making dimension remains low, participation in implementation is incidental, while the benefits of P4GN efforts are beginning to be felt in the form of increased awareness and environmental safety. Community evaluation is conducted informally but has the potential to be developed further. This study emphasizes that the success of the P4GN program heavily depends on strong partnerships between the community and relevant institutions, as well as the need for strengthened education, training, and more systematic participation opportunities.

Abstract

Indonesia is currently facing a child protection emergency, marked by a significant increase in cases of violence against children, particularly within educational institutions, up to the year 2023. As a strategic measure to strengthen child protection efforts, the government issued Ministerial Regulation of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology No. 46 of 2023 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Educational Units (PPKSP). This regulation mandates every educational institution to establish a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence (TPPK) and to implement systematic prevention programs. However, the implementation of this policy has not been optimal, as there are still educational institutions that lack adequate understanding of child protection and have not formed a TPPK, including SMP Negeri 11 Makassar. In response to this issue, an intervention in the form of a mentoring program for the establishment of a TPPK at the school is necessary to create a safe and violence-free learning environment. This activity is part of Universitas Terbuka’s community service program as a tangible contribution to supporting the prevention of violence against children in educational settings, particularly in the city of Makassar.

Abstract

The increasing demand for natural and healthy sweeteners has positioned coconut sugar as a high-value commodity, particularly within the premium market segment. However, coconut sugar producers in Pernasidi Village, Banyumas Regency, still face significant challenges in terms of branding and packaging design, limiting their access to modern markets. This community service program aims to develop the visual identity and branding strategy of the “Sekar Sari” coconut sugar product as a leading village product ready to compete in premium markets. The method employed is a participatory co-design approach, involving field observations, exploration of local brand values, interviews with stakeholders, and collaborative design workshops with local producers. The program has resulted in a professional logo, an authentic brand narrative, and eco-friendly packaging design, all of which have been directly implemented in product production and promotion activities. Initial outcomes show an improvement in market perception of the product’s image, increased partner satisfaction with the new presentation, and the producers’ readiness to enter retail and digital sales channels. Beyond its visual impact, this branding process has also fostered a sense of ownership and pride among community members toward their local product. It is concluded that strategic branding, developed through inclusive and contextual methods, can serve as a key driver for economic transformation in rural areas through local product empowerment

Abstract

Kembaran Wetan Village is one of the agricultural areas with chili plants as its main commodity. The main problem faced by farmers is the suboptimal irrigation system, which is still done manually and not based on the actual condition of the land. This community service activity aims to design and implement an Internet of Things (IoT) system to monitor chili plant growth and regulate irrigation automatically. The system consists of five soil moisture sensors, one air temperature and humidity sensor, one rain sensor, and a main controller using an ESP32 connected to a web-based platform. The system is equipped with a dashboard displaying real-time data on soil moisture, temperature, and device status, and can be accessed via a smartphone. The activity also involved training for farmers and ongoing support during the implementation phase. The results of the activity demonstrated that the system can accurately measure soil conditions and regulate irrigation according to plant needs. Farmers also showed interest and readiness to operate the equipment independently. This success indicates that the application of appropriate technologies like IoT has significant potential to enhance efficiency and productivity in rural agriculture in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

The utilization of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) as a raw material for woven handicrafts has become an environmentally friendly economic activity in several rural communities in Indonesia. However, one of the persistent challenges in the production process lies in the preparation of the wire frame, which functions as the main structural support for shaping the product. Manually straightening wire is labor-intensive, inconsistent, and ergonomically harmful, especially for women artisans. This community service initiative aimed to improve the quality and efficiency of water hyacinth woven products through the introduction of an appropriate technology innovation: a manually operated wire straightener machine. The design was developed based on participatory ergonomics principles and tested in a home-based handicraft production setting in Banyumas, Central Java. The implementation involved tool handover, training, and evaluation of its impact on product quality and work comfort. Results showed a significant improvement in wire straightness, reduced physical fatigue among artisans, and better structural consistency of the final products. The findings demonstrate that simple ergonomic innovations can effectively enhance artisanal productivity and occupational well-being. This initiative has the potential to be replicated in other craft-based communities to support sustainable microenterprise development.

Abstract

Pratima is a sacred symbol in Balinese Hindu belief, holding high spiritual value and serving as a medium of worship in temples (pura). The increasing number of pratima thefts has caused not only material losses but also immaterial impacts due to the loss of their sanctity. This activity aims to develop and implement an intelligent system based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and image detection technology for real-time monitoring and tracking of pratima in Desa Adat Bebalang, Bangli Regency. The system integrates long-range RFID with the Centroid Localization Algorithm and AI-based smart CCTV (VGG16), which can detect suspicious activity and automatically send notifications to the mobile application used by traditional security personnel. The program includes site mapping, equipment installation, training, trial implementation, and participatory evaluation with local communities and the Bendesa Adat. The results show that the system operates reliably, accurately, and is user-friendly. Evaluation data indicate that most respondents agreed or strongly agreed with the system’s usefulness. The system is technically effective and culturally accepted, with potential for replication in other temples across Bali. This initiative demonstrates that the integration of modern technology and local wisdom can offer sustainable solutions for the preservation and protection of cultural heritage.

Abstract

Empowerment in this context is directed at adolescents to prevent early marriage. This study aims to explain the strategies of community empowerment in preventing child marriage through the Jo Kawin Bocah program and to evaluate its level of effectiveness in Bulu Sub-district, Temanggung Regency. The targets of empowerment include adolescents, parents, community leaders, and local institutions, with a focus on enhancing knowledge, skills, and self-confidence to enable informed decision-making regarding their future, particularly in delaying marriage. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and data validation carried out using source and technique triangulation. The results show that empowerment strategies through critical education, local capacity strengthening, and advocacy are effective in fostering reflective awareness and reinforcing the community's role as agents of social change. The program has succeeded in increasing community understanding and participation, reducing the number of early marriage dispensation requests, and shaping a more critical, independent society committed to protecting children's rights.
