Abstract

Nutritional problems in preschool children in Indonesia, including in Botumoito Village, Botumoito Sub-district, Boalemo District, are a major concern in an effort to improve the quality of public health. One of the solutions offered is the utilisation of Moringa (Moringa oleifera), which is rich in nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and protein. This training activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of the community, especially mothers, in processing moringa into healthy snacks for preschool children. The training method includes an understanding of the nutritional content of moringa, moringa-based food processing techniques, as well as how to present it attractively to children. The results of this training are expected to improve the nutritional status of preschool children through better quality food intake and open economic opportunities for the community through the production and sale of moringa-based snacks. The programme is also expected to have a sustainable positive impact on improving family welfare and children's health in the area.

Abstract

Circumcision is one of the important teachings in Islam and is considered obligatory for males according to the majority of scholars. In addition to its religious significance, circumcision also has medical benefits, particularly for male reproductive health. To support the implementation of Islamic law and improve child health among underprivileged families, the National Zakat Board (Baznas) of Berau Regency collaborated with the University of Muhammadiyah Berau to organize a mass circumcision program as a form of community service. The activity was held at SMPN 1 Teluk Bayur and involved 50 children living in the surrounding area. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The results indicate that the mass circumcision program had a positive impact by alleviating the financial burden on families, increasing public awareness of the importance of circumcision, and optimizing the use of zakat, infaq, and sadaqah (ZIS) funds for social and health programs. The program also highlighted the importance of synergy between zakat institutions and educational organizations in supporting community welfare in the post-pandemic era.

Abstract

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is included in the Sterculiaceae family and is a plantation crop originating from South America and is currently widely planted in the tropics. Cocoa is used in parts of the fruit such as fruit skin, pulp and seeds. . Cocoa is a strategic Indonesian export commodity that generates foreign exchange, but it is undeniable that its industry is still hampered so that it imports cocoa in finished products. Activities in the development of cocoa carried out in Bontula Village involve monoculture farming communities. The development of cocoa plants in Bontula Village is a plant that is the result of vegetative propagation, namely by grafting techniques. The activity begins with education in the introduction of cocoa types and then planting is carried out on community plantation land which is a demonstration plot. This activity shows good results in terms of community awareness in planting cocoa and maintaining plants so that it has a high percentage of the percentage of cocoa plant life.

Abstract

Giyanti Tourism Village in Wonosobo Regency is an example of tourism that implements full community participation in its development. This participation is expected to increase tourism productivity by utilizing the potential of culture and traditions that have long developed in the community. Giyanti tourism village presents the beauty of the performance of the Lengger Dance, Nyadran Rakanan, and the lives of rural people who are still thick with tradition. This study aims to measure the involvement of local communities in the development of community-based tourism villages as a form of community empowerment in rural areas. The method used is a qualitative approach with observation, interview, and documentation techniques, which was carried out in Giyanti Hamlet, Kadipaten Village. The research informants consisted of the head of Giyanti Hamlet, the chairman and members of the pokdarwis, the community, and members of MSMEs. The results of the study show that community participation in planning, decision-making, implementation, benefit-taking, and evaluation is in accordance with the principles of CBT and does not contradict cultural values and traditions. The high participation of the community in funding and manpower reflects the obligations that are considered part of meeting needs. However, the participation of the youth of Giyanti Hamlet in the tourism sector is still minimal. This research provides important implications for the development of policies that can encourage the involvement of the younger generation in the tourism sector, in order to achieve sustainability and improve community welfare.

Abstract

Students’ confusion in selecting a study concentration presents a significant challenge in early career planning. The Management Study Program (S1) at Cenderawasih University faces an imbalance in student interest across concentrations, indicating a limited understanding of individual interests, personality traits, and career prospects. To address this issue, a community service initiative in the form of a career interest mapping workshop was conducted. This training equipped students with interest assessments, personality tests, and skill evaluations. A total of 59 second-semester students participated, facilitated by faculty members from each concentration and HR practitioners. The evaluation results revealed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of the interrelation between personal interests, personality types, and study concentration choices. The training proved effective in enhancing students’ self-awareness and supporting more informed academic decisions aligned with their potential and personal career goals.

Abstract

This study presents the design and implementation of an early warning system for wind speed using the Kalman Filter method and Short Message Service (SMS) for real-time data transmission. The system is developed as a solution to the limited access to internet-based warning systems in coastal and remote areas. Wind speed is measured using a cup-type anemometer, while the DHT11 sensor monitors temperature. Data readings are processed by an Arduino Uno microcontroller and transmitted via the SIM800L GSM module in SMS format, enabling use on standard mobile devices with 2G networks. The Kalman Filter algorithm is applied to reduce noise caused by unstable wind, vegetation movement, or small animal interference. The system classifies wind speed into three levels: Safe (≤3.3 m/s), Alert (>3.3–8.1 m/s), and Danger (>8.1 m/s), with notifications via SMS and colored LED displays. Testing covered sensor accuracy, Kalman Filter performance, SMS delay, and overall system reliability. Results show measurement errors below 1% and SMS delays rated “excellent” by TIPHON standards. This system offers a reliable, low-cost solution for disaster risk reduction in internet-limited regions and can be further developed for broader early warning applications.

Abstract

Batik is an intangible cultural heritage of Indonesia that is full of philosophical and symbolic values, and has economic potential that can be utilized in community empowerment activities. Wonorejo Village, Singosari District, Malang Regency, is one of the areas that develops the batik tradition as part of social inclusion efforts for survivors of mental disorders (ODGJ). Through the Jiwa Gerdu Sawah Posyandu, a stamp and ciprat batik training program was held to improve the skills, economic independence, and social integration of ODGJ survivors. This activity was carried out in the form of community service by PPG Prajabatan students of Malang State University for one month, involving nine ODGJ survivors and five posyandu cadres. The implementation method includes three stages, namely preparation, training implementation, and follow-up. The results of the activity showed that ODGJ survivors experienced various challenges, such as social stigma, limited access to work, and lack of productive activities. Through batik training which was carried out in a participatory and adaptive manner, participants showed improvements in aspects of skills, self-confidence, and social interaction. This program not only provides economic value through the batik products produced, but also contributes to the formation of a more inclusive and supportive environment for the psychosocial recovery of ODGJ survivors. Thus, the art of batik can be a strategic medium in empowering vulnerable groups towards independence and sustainable social reintegration.
