Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a questionnaire to measure satisfaction levels of Sichuan Province high-level athletes with their management systems using field investigation and mathematical statistics. Through the process of sorting and analyzing existing literature and in combination with the results of expert interviews, an ‘initial questionnaire’ consisting of 58 items and 6 dimensions was formed. As first steps, content validity and face validity of the questionnaire were tested. Then, SPSS 24 and Smart PLS 3 were used to carry out exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) respectively. After the unqualified items were deleted, a formal questionnaire comprising 49 items and 6 dimensions was ultimately formed. Reliability and validity tests demonstrated that the questionnaire had good internal consistency reliability and structural validity. By analyzing the structural model, it is found that the model has good prediction accuracy and prediction relevance, and the model fit is also good. Therefore, the evaluation model constructed in this study could be used as a tool for surveying satisfaction levels of Sichuan Province high-level athletes with their university management systems.

Abstract

The crawl style is a freestyle which is frequently used in national and international competitions. However, this swimming style requires much attention because of its complexity. On the other hand, it is very beneficial despite the facts that athletes do not like it. The objectives of this research were to examine the significant difference between two teaching methods: the pure and the progressive teaching methods. The sample of this study were 32 male students from a junior high school in Yogyakarta. The sample were divided into two groups with 16 students in the control group and 16 students in the experimental group. The data in this study were collected through a measurement on the students crawl style basic movements and the body fat level. The data were subsequently analyzed with independent sample t-test and correlation by the means of SPSS version 23. The result showed that there was a significant difference of basic movement score between the pure method and progressive method learning with p value of 0.03 0.05. The level of fat was not a constraint on both methods of teaching. High and low fat were positively correlated on both methods with the strength of the correlation was very high. In conclusion progressive method was better method to teach crawl style compared to the pure method of teaching because it gave many benefits for learners compared to the pure method teaching, regardless the level of the body fat.

Abstract

Physical Education (PE) in elementary schools has so far been extensively geared towards achieving character goals. However, not all of these goals have been well accomplished by teachers. This research aims to examine three fundamental issues in PE practice, i.e., to define PE teachers perceptions of character education, to identify problems of PE teachers in promoting character education, and to determine whether PE teachers consider character education is plausible to be implemented through PE activities. This study used a case study and a content analysis in the qualitative research method. The data were obtained from 53 PE teachers who worked in 53 elementary schools from 26 sub-districts in Sumedang Regency through an accessible case sampling method. This study employed individual interviews (10-15 minutes) in a semi-structured interview technique. Content analysis was used to analyze the interview scripts. This study revealed that character education is defined as the process of individual alteration from family, school, and social life. Meanwhile, the teachers stated that the curriculum is considered to be not precisely accessible for the development of character education since they were still confused about curriculum implementation. However, they believed that PE is effective to promote character education.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is a vital program for current generation of students in the whole world. The purpose of this study is to estimate the impact of students’ social behaviors on scientific literacy by using robust regression. A robust approach is applied to overcome the weaknesses of the ordinary least squares (OLS) regression model. The method is believed to produce better accuracy of estimation. This study applies a survey method conducted by using 200 research subjects which are randomly selected at a university in Indonesia. There are two instruments used, namely questionnaire sheets using a Likert scale and test sheets. There are four categories used in this study to measure the students’ social behaviors, which are cooperation (X1), assertiveness (X2), self-control (X3) and pro-social behaviors toward peers (X4). The analysis results reveal that all of independent variables have positive and significant impact on students’ scientific literacy (Y). Furthermore, the highest impact is collaboration (X1) and the lowest impact is pro-social behavior towards peers (X4), where the robust regression coefficients are .262 and .238, respectively.

Abstract

The internalization of character values in the boarding-schools should ideally be designed to answering the challenges of the context of Indonesia as a multicultural country. This study aims to reconstruct the character cultivation through the multicultural boarding school system as an internalization model of marine leadership characters. This study employed a single-holistic case study in a Senior High School of Taruna Nala, East Java, Indonesia, that implemented a boarding school system. The data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentary analysis, and the results was presented interactively. The data sources studied were determined by purposive sampling and snowball sampling. The data validity was tested with four criteria: credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability. This study found that the character of maritime leadership is the reponsive (tanggap), tough (tanggon), and agile (trengginas) as unique-intelligent characters that must be mastered by senior high schools in Indonesia as a maritime country. To make it happens, the internalization of character values can be done through a cultivation model, like in planting, consisting of: (1) determining the goals, (2) the seeds selection, (3) land cultivation, (4) planting the seeds, (5) maintenance, and (6) fertilization. The model is carried out in full through the boarding system education system.

Abstract

Information technology-based instruction (e.g. using Edmodo) gains its popularity as it is likely to strengthen the role of teachers, schools, and parents for the sake of optimizing student learning outcomes. Therefore, this study explores how Edmodo was utilized to mediate digital class in English language teaching (ELT); how Edmodo facilitated students' engagement during the class; and how Edmodo mediated teachers to assess students' learning outcomes. A qualitative approach was employed and 286 students from a secondary school voluntarily participated during the study. Interviews, online mini-polling, and document analysis were deployed as data collection methods, and data were validated by triangulation and analyzed by following the interactive model of data analysis. It revealed that Edmodo was an effective mode to mediate digital class in ELT as the students could interact with their teacher, peers, and course contents effectively, both inside and outside the classroom. The students' engagement was also better in comparison to that of the face-to-face classroom. Finally, Edmodo well-mediated teachers to carry out the computer-based test (CBT); it was an accurate mode of assessment as no cheatings were facilitated; the validity, and reliability of the test could be favorably accomplished.
