Abstract

Fire risks in disaster-prone areas are increasing due to climate change and anthropogenic activities, such as illegal land clearing and weak law enforcement, especially in Indonesia, Brazil, and Australia. This study uses a qualitative approach with literature review methods and thematic content analysis to explore the dynamics of social transformation and managerial strategies in fire management through a comparative cross-case study. Social transformation is driven by citizen participation and local actors integrating local knowledge with modern technology, such as the Masyarakat Peduli Api program in Indonesia that reduced fires by 40% and "FireWise" in Australia that accelerated collective awareness. However, conflicting interests, such as plantation expansion, and weak institutional structures hinder effectiveness, especially in Indonesia and Brazil. Co-management and CBFiM strategies have proven to be more adaptive than centralized technocratic approaches, which often fail in Sub-Saharan Africa. Responsive managerial institutions, such as in Australia, support inclusive policies, while hierarchical systems in Latin America hinder adaptation. Community resilience depends on citizen empowerment, equitable resource distribution, and collaborative governance, making social transformation and community-based approaches key to sustainable fire management.

Abstract

The development of social media as part of digital transformation has opened up new opportunities in community education efforts, especially through the Student Creativity Program (PKM). This study aims to examine the strategy of utilizing social media as an educational tool in digital-based PKM activities. Social media such as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook are used strategically to reach various segments of society, taking into account generational characteristics, information needs, and socio-cultural contexts. A descriptive qualitative approach was used in this study, with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with implementing students, supervising lecturers, and beneficiary communities. Data analysis was carried out thematically with source triangulation to maintain validity. The results of the study indicate that the integration of social media in PKM not only increases access to educational information but also strengthens community participation in the learning process. The success of the program is highly dependent on the design of content that is visually attractive, substantively contextual, and participatory in its implementation. However, challenges related to digital literacy, information credibility, and community involvement still need to be addressed through sustainable strategies. Thus, social media has the potential to be an effective educational platform if utilized critically, creatively, and collaboratively within the framework of digital-based community service.

Abstract

The development of digital technology, especially social media, has changed the way individuals interact and access information, but it has also had a negative impact on mental health. Excessive use of social media is associated with an increased risk of depression, anxiety, and decreased self-esteem, especially among adolescents and young adults. In addition, gadget addiction and the phenomenon of social comparison worsen an individual's psychological condition. On the other hand, the low level of public understanding of mental health is a major challenge in efforts to prevent and treat psychological disorders. Many individuals still consider mental health problems as taboo or personal weaknesses, which prevents them from seeking help. The Student Creativity Program (PKM) can play an important role in addressing this issue by increasing public awareness through community-based education, which can be done through various digital media and interactive activities. PKM allows students to design educational programs that are socially and culturally relevant, as well as increasing mental health literacy in the community. In the context of rapidly developing digitalization, the use of technology in PKM can expand the reach of mental health education in a more interesting and effective way. Therefore, PKM has the potential to reduce the stigma of mental health and promote psychological well-being in the community.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has changed people's consumption patterns, encouraging a shift from conventional transactions to digital platforms. This phenomenon threatens the existence of traditional markets which are increasingly marginalized due to low adoption of digital technology, limited digital literacy, and minimal infrastructure and regulatory support. This study aims to analyze the understanding and utilization of digital marketing among traditional market traders, and to evaluate the role of the Student Creativity Program (PKM) as an intervention model in revitalizing the local economy. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, data was collected through a survey of traditional market traders. The results showed that WhatsApp Business (35%) was the most widely used digital platform, followed by Facebook Marketplace (22%) and Instagram (18%), while TikTok Shop was still low (10%). As many as 15% of traders have not used digital media at all. The level of digital literacy also varies, with 35% of traders in the "less" and "very less" categories. These findings underscore the urgency of ongoing training and mentoring through PKM, which has been proven to be effective in increasing digital promotion capabilities by up to 60%. Therefore, collaboration between the world of education, local government, and market communities is crucial to create traditional markets that are inclusive, adaptive, and highly competitive in the digital era.

Abstract

Social media has become an integral part of adolescents' lives in the digital era. The use of platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp influences the way adolescents interact, form self-identities, and understand social norms. This study aims to analyze the role of social media in shaping adolescents' social behavior, using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and participant observation of 20 adolescents in Jambi City. The results showed that social media has positive impacts, such as expanding social networks and increasing self-confidence. However, negative impacts were also identified, including increased risk of cyberbullying, social pressure, and decreased direct social interaction. These findings emphasize the importance of digital literacy and the active role of parents and educators in guiding adolescents to use social media wisely.

Abstract

In the era of increasingly rapid urbanization, the dynamics of social interaction between residents in urban environments have undergone various significant changes. This study aims to analyze the forms, influencing factors, and challenges and opportunities in social interaction between city residents. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interview techniques and participant observation, this study reveals that social interaction in urban environments is characterized by diverse social backgrounds, a fast pace of life, and limitations of space and time. The findings show two main tendencies: increasing individualism and the formation of micro-communities based on common interests. Obstacles such as social inequality, distrust between residents, and lack of public space also limit the intensity of social interaction. However, social media and online communities have become new spaces that expand the forms of interaction between residents. This study recommends the need to strengthen inclusive and locally-based social interaction spaces in urban environments to strengthen the social cohesion of urban communities.

Abstract

Social inequality and economic disparity are still deep-rooted structural problems in the lives of Indonesian society. Although various empowerment programs have been launched by local governments, many of them are symbolic and technocratic, and fail to touch the roots of social injustice. This study aims to analyze social intervention strategies in community empowerment programs through a critical sociological approach. Using a literature study method with a qualitative approach, this study examines key theories such as power relations (Foucault), symbolic power (Bourdieu), capability approach (Sen and Nussbaum), and participatory parity (Fraser). The results of the analysis show that the dominance of power in the planning and implementation of empowerment programs often ignores the local socio-cultural context and narrows the space for citizen participation. Empowerment, which should be transformative, has instead become a tool for legitimizing elite, top-down policies. Therefore, the integration of substantive capability and participatory approaches in local policies is needed to dismantle structural inequality and build democratic, just, and inclusive governance. This study emphasizes the importance of reorienting the empowerment paradigm from merely administrative to social transformation that favors marginalized groups and expands the real freedom of society.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of local wisdom values with digital technology in empowering tourist village communities in Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. Bone Regency has strong cultural values such as siri' na pacce which are the foundation of collective identity, but tourism village development policies are still uniform and do not accommodate local cultural characteristics. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection through interviews, participatory observation, and documentation in several tourist villages. Thematic analysis was conducted to understand the dynamics of the meaning of local values, technology adaptation, and community participation. The results of the study indicate tension between cultural preservation and the demands of modern digitalization. Village communities adopt technology selectively with the important role of traditional leaders as curators of cultural content. Social media is an effective means of promoting and expressing cultural identity, but low digital access and literacy are obstacles. The study emphasizes the need for an inclusive and participatory digital empowerment approach, involving all community actors to make technology an instrument for preserving and strengthening culture while encouraging sustainable socio-economic transformation of tourist villages. This model is expected to bridge tradition and modernity harmoniously in the context of local tourism development.

Abstract

Digital transformation in government has opened up new opportunities to strengthen public participation in the policy formulation process. Through various digital platforms such as e-government and social media, interactions between the state and citizens have become more open, fast, and participatory. However, digitalization is not without challenges. Infrastructure gaps, digital literacy, and the tendency towards participatory symbolism (tokenism) have the potential to create new exclusions in the practice of digital democracy. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature study method to evaluate the extent to which digital governance is able to encourage substantive public participation. The results of the study show that the success of digital democracy is not enough just by providing technology, but requires institutional reform and ethical-political commitment to create a fair and inclusive deliberative space. Within the framework of deliberative democracy, citizen participation must be positioned as an integral element that influences the substance of policy, not just a procedural formality. These findings emphasize the need for policy strategies that are not only technocratic, but also sensitive to socio-political dimensions, including the redistribution of power, increasing digital-political literacy, and ensuring the involvement of marginalized communities. Thus, digitalization in government will only be meaningful if it is able to bridge the participation gap and encourage democratic practices that are more inclusive, deliberative, and have a real impact on the public.

Abstract

Inequality in access to education in Indonesia remains a serious challenge, particularly for marginalized groups such as children from poor families, people with disabilities, and indigenous communities. Although the national legal framework guarantees the right to education, the reality on the ground shows that various structural and cultural barriers still hinder the creation of substantial educational equity. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method at an inclusive public school in a rural area to explore the implementation of social inclusion in the local context. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed thematically to uncover the dynamics of marginalized student participation, teacher readiness, and local community support. The results show that despite the commitment to inclusion, its implementation is still hampered by minimal teacher training, a lack of disability-friendly infrastructure, and the dominance of homogenous values in the learning system. However, the involvement of local actors and the use of a community-based approach have proven effective in strengthening the application of inclusive principles contextually. This research emphasizes that social inclusion is not merely an administrative effort but requires comprehensive structural and cultural changes. Therefore, a transformative and human rights-based education strategy is needed to realize an education system that is equitable, participatory, and truly respects diversity.
