Abstract

Flooding in Aceh has become a recurring phenomenon that cannot be understood solely as a natural disaster but also as a result of human activities within modern society. This study aims to analyze flooding in Aceh through the perspective of Ulrich Beck’s risk society theory, focusing on how modernization, environmental change, and development policies contribute to the production of risk. This research uses a literature review approach by examining scientific articles published between 2021 and 2026 from indexed national and international journals. The analysis was conducted thematically to identify patterns, similarities, and research gaps. The findings show that natural factors such as high rainfall and atmospheric conditions act as primary triggers, while human activities including land-use change, river sedimentation, and ineffective policies significantly intensify flood risks. Flooding is therefore categorized as a manufactured risk produced by modern development processes. In addition, the impacts are not limited to ecological damage but also affect social and psychological conditions of society. These results indicate that floods should be understood not only from a technical perspective but also from a social perspective. The study implies that flood management requires a comprehensive approach integrating environmental sustainability, social awareness, and evidence-based policy to reduce both the impact and sources of risk in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

The development of social media has brought significant changes in how individuals perceive themselves, especially among female university students who are in the stage of identity formation. Social media is not only used as a communication tool but also as a space that presents homogeneous beauty standards which can influence self-perception. This study aims to analyze the construction of beauty standards on social media and their impact on female students’ self-perception. The research uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method by analyzing 20  relevant academic articles published between 2020 and 2025. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative techniques, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that beauty standards on social media are constructed through repeated visual representations and reinforced by algorithmic systems, creating an idealized image of beauty. This condition encourages female students to engage in social comparison, leading to self-dissatisfaction and decreased self-confidence. However, these effects vary depending on individuals’ ability to filter and interpret information. This study highlights the importance of developing critical awareness in social media use to avoid being influenced by unrealistic beauty standards.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze public concerns regarding fast food consumption from the perspective of risk society, particularly among university students. The increasing consumption of fast food reflects shifts in consumption patterns influenced by globalization, practicality, and time efficiency. This research employs a qualitative approach through a literature review supported by interview data to strengthen the analysis. The findings reveal that fast food consumption is not solely driven by biological needs but also by practical, emotional, and social factors. Although students demonstrate a relatively high awareness of health risks associated with fast food, their consumption behavior persists as an adaptive response to structural conditions such as time constraints, accessibility, and academic pressures. From the perspective of risk society, this phenomenon illustrates a contradiction between risk awareness and everyday consumption practices. Risks produced by modernity are not entirely avoided but are negotiated and normalized in daily life. Therefore, fast food consumption cannot be understood merely as an individual choice but as a result of the interaction between structural factors, consumer culture, and social construction within modern society.

Abstract

This study examines the reproduction of social inequality in education through the theoretical framework of Pierre Bourdieu within a critical sociology perspective. The background of this research is rooted in the persistent gap in educational access, participation, and achievement among students from different social classes, which indicates that education does not always function as a tool for social mobility. The objective of this study is to analyze how mechanisms such as habitus, cultural capital, social capital, and the educational field contribute to sustaining inequality. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis within an educational setting characterized by diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The findings reveal that students from higher socio-economic backgrounds tend to possess dominant cultural capital and habitus that align with institutional expectations, giving them a significant advantage in academic achievement. Conversely, students from lower socio-economic backgrounds face structural and symbolic barriers that limit their opportunities. The study also finds that educational practices, including teaching methods and evaluation systems, implicitly favor certain groups, thereby reinforcing inequality. The implications of this research highlight the need for more inclusive educational policies and practices that recognize diverse forms of capital and promote equal opportunities for all students. Ultimately, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of how education functions as a site of social reproduction rather than merely a neutral institution.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of culture and myth in the film "KKN di Desa Penari" (Community Service in Dancer Village) using Jean Baudrillard's hyperreality perspective. This film's phenomenon is not merely entertainment but also demonstrates the blurring of the boundaries between reality and fiction in modern society. The method used is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach through a search of scientific sources from 2022–2025. The results show that the representation of culture and myth in film has undergone a transformation into simulacra, a form of representation that no longer reflects reality but instead replaces it. Mystical elements in film tend to be constructed as aesthetic and dramatic visual elements, thus shifting sacred meanings to mere entertainment. Furthermore, the incorporation of magical realism reinforces the experience of hyperreality, making it difficult for viewers to distinguish between fact and fiction. The role of mass media and social media also reinforces this process through the collective production and reproduction of meaning. This study also found a tendency towards stereotypical gender representation, particularly in the depiction of female characters. Thus, the media not only represents reality but also plays an active role in shaping and even replacing social reality in society.

Abstract

Academic success and ethical behavior among students cannot be explained solely by cognitive ability. This article presents a literature review of scientific journal articles published between 2021 and 2025 that discuss the role of intellectual intelligence (IQ), emotional intelligence (EQ), spiritual intelligence (SQ), social intelligence, and learning behavior in shaping students' academic understanding and ethical behavior. The method used was a literature study by selecting, grouping, and synthesizing research findings based on topic relevance and source credibility. The synthesis results show that IQ plays a strong role in analytical and problem-solving aspects, EQ helps with emotion regulation, motivation, and adaptability, SQ strengthens value orientation and integrity, while social intelligence and learning behavior become important bridges through interaction, collaboration, and consistent learning habits. In addition, various studies show that the combination of these five aspects contributes significantly to improving conceptual understanding, decision-making skills, and the formation of ethical attitudes in an academic context. Students with a balance of IQ, EQ, and SQ tend to be better able to manage academic pressure, face failure as a learning process, and maintain consistency in achieving learning goals. Social intelligence strengthens the ability to collaborate, appreciate differences, and build effective communication, while positive learning behavior reflects discipline, responsibility, and commitment to the academic process. These findings emphasize the importance of a holistic approach to student development, not only emphasizing cognitive achievement but also nurturing emotions, values, and learning habits.

Abstract

Time management and mental health are two closely related aspects of students’ academic life. Academic demands, numerous assignments, and pressure to achieve good academic performance often affect students’ psychological conditions and their ability to manage time effectively. This study aims to determine the relationship between mental health and time management skills among active university students. The research used a quantitative survey method by distributing online questionnaires (Google Forms) to 41 respondents from various study programs. Mental health served as the independent variable, while time management was the dependent variable, measured using a five-point response scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS through validity, reliability, and ANOVA tests. The results showed that all instruments had good validity and reliability, indicated by high Cronbach’s Alpha values. Inferential analysis revealed a significance level below the statistical threshold, confirming a significant influence of mental health on time management with a contribution of 60.3%. These findings indicate that students with stable psychological conditions are more capable of organizing priorities and schedules effectively. Therefore, institutional support for students’ mental well-being is essential to support academic success.

Abstract

Migrant students often face significant emotional challenges when transitioning to a new academic and living environment. One prominent issue is homesickness, which can disrupt emotional balance and impact overall mental health. In this context, homesickness is not only associated with feelings of longing for home and family but also affects psychological stability and the ability to adapt to new environments. This article aims to synthesize research findings on the relationship between homesickness and mental health among migrant students, with a focus on the higher education context in Indonesia. A literature review was conducted by searching Google Scholar, Garuda, DOAJ, and ERIC using the keywords "homesickness", "migrant students", and "mental health" (2019-2025). Relevant articles were selected based on specific criteria, and their findings were synthesized thematically. The reviewed literature consistently indicates that higher levels of homesickness are associated with increased stress, anxiety, depressive symptoms, loneliness, and reduced academic motivation. However, several protective factors can help mitigate the negative impact of homesickness, including social support from peers and family, effective Coping strategies, active participation in campus activities, and adaptive emotion regulation. Therefore, universities should provide various programs to support migrant students' psychological adjustment, such as early-semester orientation, peer mentoring, and easily accessible counseling services.

Abstract

Students experience a decline in motivation to complete their final projects, primarily due to high levels of stress. This article aims to examine the relationship between motivation and students’ stress levels in writing their final projects, as well as to identify strategies for enhancing motivation and reducing stress during the final project writing process. This research employs a qualitative approach and is conducted as a literature review. The data were collected from the Google Scholar database without specifying the year of publication. The data analysis technique used in this study is content analysis. The findings indicate that motivation has a significant relationship with students’ stress levels in writing their final projects. Motivation arises from both internal and external sources and tends to decline when stress levels increase. Stress occurs due to various factors, such as procrastination, ineffective supervision by academic advisors, and students’ limited writing skills. To enhance students’ motivation, academic advisors play a crucial role in providing effective guidance; writing workshops are also necessary to improve students’ writing skills, increase their confidence, and provide social support that is relevant to students’ needs. Strategies to reduce stress include avoiding procrastination, practicing effective time management, and engaging in self-coping strategies. This study contributes to assisting students and higher education institutions in reducing unproductive behaviors in final project writing among final-year students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the consumptive culture of students in following trends using Karl Marx’s social class theory perspective. The phenomenon of consumptive behavior among students is no longer based on rational needs but is influenced by social, economic, and digital technological developments. This research uses a qualitative approach with a library research method by collecting and analyzing various relevant literature sources. The findings indicate that students’ consumptive behavior is part of modern capitalism mechanisms that shape consumption patterns through class relations, digital media, and social identity construction. From Marx’s perspective, consumption functions as a tool for reproducing the capitalist system that maintains social inequality, while Herbert Marcuse’s perspective reinforces that modern consumption is driven by “false needs” constructed through media and industry. In addition, factors such as family socioeconomic status, social environment, digital media, and the need for social recognition also strengthen students’ consumptive behavior. Therefore, student consumptive culture can be understood as a multidimensional phenomenon resulting from the interaction between economic, social, and ideological structures in modern society.
