Abstract

The development of financial technology has encouraged mosques to adopt non-cash transaction systems in managing infaq. This study aims to examine the effect of cash and non-cash transaction usage on infaq decisionmaking among worshippers at Al-Jihad Mosque, Medan Baru. This research employed a quantitative method with a comparative approach. Data were collected through a survey using questionnaires distributed to 120 respondents who were worshippers of Al-Jihad Mosque. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data analysis was preceded by validity and reliability tests, followed by a normality test to determine the appropriate hypothesis testing method. The results of the normality test indicated that the data were not normally distributed; therefore, the hypothesis was tested using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000, which is less than the significance level of 0.05. This finding indicates a significant difference in infaq decisions between worshippers who use cash transactions and those who use non-cash transactions. The results suggest that transaction methods have a significant influence on worshippers’ infaq decisions. Therefore, the implementation and development of non-cash transaction systems in mosques are expected to facilitate infaq practices and encourage greater participation among worshippers

Abstract

School principals play a central role in school management and influence teacher performance, including Islamic Education (PAI) teachers who not only teach subject matter but also instill religious values in students. This study aims to examine the leadership style of school principals and its effect on improving the performance of PAI teachers at SMKN 1 Surakarta. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative, with informants consisting of school principals, PAI teachers, and vice principals in charge of curriculum, who were selected purposively. Data collection was conducted through interviews, documentation, and literature review, then analysed through reduction, presentation, and conclusion-drawing stages, and its validity was strengthened through source triangulation. The findings show that the principal combines transformational, democratic, situational, and participatory leadership styles. This approach encourages open communication, teacher involvement in decision-making, adjustment of directions according to teacher characteristics, and religious values education through school activities. The combination of these leadership styles has a positive impact on PAI teachers' performance, as seen in increased motivation, discipline, sense of responsibility, innovation in learning, and better teaching quality, while also strengthening the overall character building of students

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the parenting patterns of students in improving the quality of Quranic recitation in the era of digital distractions at the Darul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School in Deli Serdang. The development of digital technology, characterized by the high use of gadgets and social media among teenagers, presents challenges to the consistency, focus, and discipline of students in maintaining Quranic recitation memorization. This condition demands an adaptive and effective parenting pattern to maintain the quality of recitation. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with research subjects including Islamic boarding school caretakers, tahfidz ustadz, and students. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion, and its validity was tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the study indicate that the parenting pattern applied is a combination of authoritarian and democratic (authoritative) patterns that emphasize discipline, supervision, two-way communication, and the proportional application of rewards and punishments. Recitation activities are carried out in a structured manner through daily schedules, memorization submissions, and periodic evaluations. Factors influencing the quality of muraja'ah include students' internal motivation, the Islamic boarding school environment, and regulations on device use. This research contributes to an adaptive parenting model for maintaining the quality of muraja'ah amidst the challenges of the digital era

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of traditional leaders in preserving the Nogigi tradition within the Kaili Rai traditional wedding ceremony in Tanjung Padang Village, Sirenja District, Donggala Regency. Nogigi is an essential stage containing philosophical, religious, and social values, and is understood as a symbol of self-purification before entering married life. Amid modernization, the continuity of this tradition is closely linked to the role of traditional leaders as guardians of local cultural values. This research applies a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving traditional leaders and community members directly engaged in the practice of Nogigi. The findings indicate that traditional leaders serve as mediators, protectors of tradition, guides of the customary procession, and transmitters of cultural values to the younger generation. Although certain adjustments have occurred in terms of timing, ceremonial equipment, and youth participation due to social change, the core philosophical meaning of Nogigi remains intact. Thus, the sustainability of the Nogigi tradition is maintained through the active involvement of traditional leaders, supported by the community and local government

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly influenced educational transformation, including within Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI). This study aims to systematically examine the empirical and conceptual evidence regarding the implementation of AI-based digital learning in strengthening students’ understanding of Islamic values, particularly among Generation Z learners in Muhammadiyah senior high schools. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach guided by Kitchenham and Charters (2007) and the PRISMA framework, 28 peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 and 2025 were analysed from the Scopus, Web of Science, Dimensions, and Google Scholar databases. The findings indicate that AI applications such as adaptive learning systems, generative chatbots (e.g., ChatGPT), AI-based multimedia, and augmented reality significantly improve cognitive learning outcomes, student engagement, and critical thinking skills. However, the majority of studies emphasise measurable academic performance, while ethical considerations, theological validation, and character formation remain underexplored. This imbalance reveals a conceptual gap between technological efficiency and the holistic objectives of Islamic education. The study concludes that AI integration in PAI must be repositioned as a value-sensitive pedagogical instrument rather than merely a cognitive enhancement tool. Effective implementation requires ethical supervision, interpretative guidance, and alignment with Islamic educational philosophy to ensure balanced intellectual, moral, and spiritual development in the digital era.

Abstract

The teaching of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) is still dominated by an epistemological framework that positions religious texts as fixed and closed sources of meaning, so that learning practices tend to be reduced to the transmission of interpretations. Previous studies generally focused on pedagogical aspects, without examining the epistemological assumptions underlying the way texts are understood. This study aims to reconstruct the epistemology of PAI learning through Naṣr Ḥāmid Abū Zayd’s hermeneutics and the maʿnā–cum–maghzā approach within the context of a Love-Based Curriculum. This research employs a qualitative approach based on text analysis with a philosophical hermeneutical framework. The primary data come from Abū Zayd's works (Mafhūm al-Naṣṣ and Naqd al-Khiṭāb al-Dīnī), which are analyzed through textual identification, conceptual extraction, and hermeneutical interpretation, and then mapped comparatively with the maʿnā–cum–maghzā methodology. The research findings indicate that (1) the Qur’an is constructed as a historical-linguistic discourse formed in a dialectical relationship with social reality; (2) revelation functions as a communicative process involving text, context, and the reader; and (3) the distinction between al-maʿnā and al-maghzā serves as an epistemological mechanism that enables a balance between the reconstruction of historical meaning and the production of contextual significance. Based on these findings, the study identifies an epistemological shift from a transmission-based learning model toward a dialogical-interpretative process that positions learners as active epistemic subjects. These findings imply that without an epistemological reconstruction, value-based approaches such as the Love-Based Curriculum risk remaining merely affective, making the integration of Abū Zayd’s hermeneutics crucial for developing reflective and contextual Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Inside-Outside Circle (IOC) learning model in improving students' learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education at the junior secondary school level. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of 60 eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Senduro, divided into an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). The experimental group was taught using the IOC model, while the control group received conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through a Likert-scale learning motivation questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability (α=0.87). Data analysis used a paired sample t-test and an independent sample t-test with a significance level of 5%. The results showed that the experimental group experienced an increase in motivation scores from 62.10 to 79.43, while the control group increased from 61.87 to 66.21. Statistical tests indicated a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05) with an effect size of 1.25 (large category). These findings indicate that the IOC model is effective in increasing students' learning motivation through structured interaction and active participation. This study recommends the implementation of the IOC model as an alternative for more interactive learning strategies in Islamic religious education.

Abstract

This study examines strategic approaches to enhancing the quality of Islamic education within the dynamic landscape of contemporary globalization. Accelerated technological innovation, intensified cultural interaction, and increasing global competition have significantly reshaped educational systems worldwide. Consequently, Islamic educational institutions are challenged to modernize their structures and practices while preserving their theological foundations and moral commitments. This research applies a qualitative library-based methodology, drawing upon contemporary educational theories, Islamic pedagogical traditions, and policy frameworks on quality assurance and institutional development. The findings reveal that improving educational quality in Islamic institutions requires a multidimensional strategy. Key dimensions include curriculum transformation aligned with global standards, continuous professional development for teachers, effective digital integration, transparent and accountable governance, and character education grounded in Islamic ethical values. Strengthening visionary leadership, implementing outcome-based education models, and fostering integration between religious sciences and modern disciplines are essential to achieving global competitiveness. Moreover, Islamic education must cultivate critical thinking, intellectual openness, moderation (wasatiyyah), intercultural dialogue, and ethical responsibility to respond constructively to globalization. Sustainable quality enhancement depends on stakeholder collaboration, pedagogical innovation, and systematic evaluation. By harmonizing spiritual depth with academic rigor, Islamic education can remain relevant, adaptive, and transformative in preparing morally grounded and globally competent generations

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the planning of the Love-Based Curriculum (LBC) in Aqidah Akhlak learning to strengthen students' religious character at MAN 1 Tulungagung, Indonesia. A qualitative field research design was employed to obtain an in-depth understanding of curriculum planning and implementation. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving the principal, vice principal for curriculum affairs, Aqidah Akhlak teachers, and students. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing with continuous verification through triangulation. The findings reveal that the Love-Based Curriculum is systematically planned through the establishment of a curriculum core team, formulation of short-, medium-, and long-term programs, curriculum socialization and workshops, madrasah context analysis, development of teaching resources, and integration of the Panca Cinta values into curricular and extracurricular activities. The integration of the Merdeka Curriculum with the Love-Based Curriculum strengthens Aqidah Akhlak learning by fostering compassion, empathy, tolerance, environmental responsibility, and spiritual awareness. The principal contribution of this study is the identification of madrasah context analysis as an essential stage of curriculum planning that bridges institutional characteristics, students' needs, and curriculum implementation. This finding extends existing curriculum management models by positioning contextual analysis as a strategic planning component. The proposed framework provides a practical reference for Islamic educational institutions seeking to implement value-based curricula that promote holistic character development, sustainable educational quality, and transformative learning practices.
