Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of zakat mal distribution in the health and education sectors by BAZNAS Bogor Regency in supporting the fulfillment of mustahik’s basic needs. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving six mustahik beneficiaries during the period of December 2023 to July 2024. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the distribution of zakat in the health and education sectors has been relatively effective and in accordance with applicable regulations. The assistance provided has helped alleviate the burden of mustahik in meeting their basic needs. However, several challenges remain, including limited coverage of beneficiaries and the need to improve the equity of distribution. This study implies that the effectiveness of zakat distribution in the education and health sectors can serve as a basis for strengthening more targeted zakat distribution policies. The findings also highlight the important role of Zakat Collection Units (UPZ) in supporting the effectiveness of zakat distribution. Furthermore, the results may serve as a reference for developing more equitable and sustainable zakat distribution strategies. This study provides empirical contributions to the evaluation of zakat distribution effectiveness in the health and education sectors at the regional level. It also highlights the importance of enhancing distribution equity and targeting accuracy in zakat management to improve the sustainable welfare of mustahik.

Abstract

This study examines the evolving dimensions of Muslim consumer trust in halal-certified cosmetic products within the context of Islamic economic principles, particularly maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah and ethical consumption in the digital era. This study employs a narrative literature review through thematic synthesis of forty-five peer-reviewed articles published between 2018 and 2025. Relevant studies were systematically selected from major academic databases to identify the key determinants shaping Muslim consumer trust. The findings reveal four interconnected dimensions influencing trust formation: religiosity and spiritual identity, halal certification and perceived authenticity, digital engagement and electronic word-of-mouth (e-WOM), and eco-consciousness as an extension of the halālan ṭayyiban principle. The study demonstrates that halal trust is no longer shaped solely by certification, but increasingly reinforced through digital interaction, ethical awareness, institutional transparency, and perceived integrity. Halal certification also functions as an institutional governance mechanism that strengthens trust across the broader halal economic ecosystem, including Islamic finance. This study is limited by its reliance on secondary data and narrative synthesis, which may reduce contextual generalizability across different regions and industries. This study proposes an integrative conceptual framework linking religiosity, digital engagement, ethical governance, and halal trust formation within Islamic economics, offering insights for strengthening sustainable and trust-based halal governance systems.

Abstract

This study systematically reviews empirical evidence on the pedagogical competence of Islamic Religious Education teachers in addressing Qur’an reading problems among students in Indonesian junior high schools. It responds to fragmented findings on teacher competence, instructional strategies, and student difficulties in Qur’an literacy. The study used a systematic literature review guided by PRISMA 2020. Literature was searched through Google Scholar, Garuda, DOAJ, Crossref, SINTA-indexed journals, and relevant Islamic education journal portals. Studies published between 2019 and 2026 were screened using predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Fourteen articles met the eligibility criteria and were analyzed through descriptive analysis and thematic synthesis. The review found that students’ Qur’an reading problems are multidimensional, including tajwid errors, makhārij al-ḥurūf difficulties, weak hijā’iyyah recognition, low fluency, limited motivation, and unequal family support. PAI teachers’ pedagogical competence was reflected in diagnostic assessment, lesson planning, classroom management, differentiated instruction, formative feedback, and evaluation. The dominant strategies included Iqra’, tahsin, talaqqi, drill, reading deposit, peer tutoring, habituation, audio-visual media, and BTQ/BTA extracurricular programs. The review is limited to 14 Indonesian and English articles published from 2019 to 2026; therefore, the findings cannot be generalized beyond the reviewed corpus. This study proposes an integrated diagnostic-differentiated Qur’an reading pedagogy model linking teacher competence, remedial support, and school–family collaboration.

Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning through the integration of Ibn ‘Ashur’s Maqasid Shariah values as a foundation for strengthening students’ moderate character in madrasa education. This study employed a qualitative case study approach at MTs Maarif NU Sindang Sari involving PAI teachers, students, and school administrators selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observations, and documentation analysis, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal that Ibn ‘Ashur’s Maqasid Shariah values, namely al-Fitrah, al-Samahah, al-Musawah, and al-Hurriyah, have been implicitly implemented through religious habituation, ASWAJA local content, dialogical learning, and inclusive school culture. The study also found that the four pillars of Nahdlatul Ulama function as cultural bridges for contextualizing Maqasid Shariah values within the madrasa ecosystem. However, the implementation remains informal and has not yet been systematically integrated into curriculum documents and assessment systems. This study contributes to the development of transformative Islamic education by positioning Maqasid Shariah as a pedagogical framework for moderate character formation. However, the research was limited to a single madrasa context, which may restrict the broader generalization of the findings. This study offers originality by operationalizing Ibn ‘Ashur’s contemporary Maqasid Shariah within PAI learning and connecting it with Nahdlatul Ulama’s cultural traditions as a contextual model for moderation-oriented Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to estimate the net impact, transmission mechanisms, and contribution of BUMDes Karya Dermawan to Maqasid Sharia-based Islamic Economic Welfare within the Dusun Dalam community. This research provides empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of village economic institutions in enhancing both material and spiritual maslahah. This quantitative study utilizes a retrospective panel data design for the 2014–2025 period, involving 120 respondents (60 in the treatment group and 60 in the control group) selected via purposive sampling. The study explicitly acknowledges the potential for recall bias due to the retrospective nature of the survey, which was mitigated through data triangulation with village documentation. Data analysis was conducted using Difference-in-Differences (DiD) regression and Independent Sample t-test. The findings indicate a significant estimated net impact (DiD) of 8.064 (sig. 0.000) and a corrected post-intervention mean welfare difference of 5.969 (sig. 0.000) between the two groups. The transmission mechanisms identified through qualitative field observations occur through the Savings and Loans unit (functioning as qardhul hasan), agricultural machinery (Alsintan), and agricultural production facilities (Saprodi). The employment variable is proven to be the primary determinant in community welfare improvement. This study recommends strengthening the legal aspects of BUMDes business units by formalizing them into a certified Sharia-compliant system. The primary limitations of this study lie in its reliance on retrospective recall data and its restricted geographical scope. The primary value of this study lies in the application of a retrospective panel DiD framework over an 11-year horizon (2014–2025) to evaluate BUMDes performance through a holistic Maqasid Sharia lens, providing a more rigorous and balanced framework for assessing community-based economic empowerment.

Abstract

Indonesia's general takaful industry faces intensifying regulatory pressure the UU 40/2014 spin-off mandate and POJK 20 and 23/2023 capital requirements yet sharia governance maturity remains uneven across firms. This study addresses the absence of an empirical, network-based account of how governance matures across companies with different ownership structures. A qualitative multiple case study examined four full-fledged general takaful firms representing distinct ownership structures (state-owned, regional state-owned, private national, and joint venture). Nine in-depth interviews with directors, Sharia Supervisory Board (DPS) members, and senior managers were analysed using Braun and Clarke's (2006) thematic analysis integrated with Callon's (1986) four moments of translation. Maturity was scored on a five-point Likert scale across nine SGM constituents and aggregated via the Corporate Governance Maturity Index formula (Imat) of Vidal et al. (2012), with scores triangulated against annual reports, governance reports, DPS reports, and audit reports for 2019–2024. NVivo 14 supported the coding. Six cross-case themes emerged from the four cases studied. The industry-aggregate Imat reached 2.0022, situating the sample at Level 3 (Regulated/ Normalized), but three of four firms individually remained at Level 2. Within this sample the SGM network appears semi-stable with partial translation: problematisation reaches compliance but not maturity; interessement succeeds for compliance but is limited for maturity; the DPS tends to function as a constrained obligatory passage point; and certified sharia auditors, formal sharia audit frameworks, and sharia IT monitoring systems are absent across the four firms studied—missing actors that, in this sample, fragment the network. The private national pioneer (PT. C) recorded the highest maturity, inverting the institutional-pressure expectation that BUMN status would yield the highest score. Findings are bounded by the four-firm scope and Indonesia's regulatory context; transferability to life takaful or to sharia units yet to complete spin-off is not claimed. Implications include the need for a maturity-based regulatory instrument, DPS competence reforms integrating business and finance expertise, a formal sharia audit framework, and standardised sharia IT monitoring mechanisms. This is the first study to integrate Actor-Network Theory with sharia governance in Indonesian takaful and to operationalise SGM as a nine-constituent extension of Corporate Governance Maturity, contributing both methodologically and conceptually to Islamic finance scholarship.

Abstract

This study aims to redefine Arabic teacher competencies for digital learning in the context of educational transformation. Rapid developments in digital technology, artificial intelligence, and online learning environments have significantly changed the paradigm of language education, requiring Arabic teachers to possess competencies beyond traditional linguistic mastery and conventional pedagogy. This study employed a qualitative conceptual review using a library research approach. Literature was collected from Scopus-indexed journals, educational policy documents, books, and international competency frameworks, including TPACK and DigCompEdu. Sources were identified through systematic searches in Google Scholar, Scopus, and ERIC using keywords related to Arabic language education, teacher competence, digital pedagogy, and educational transformation. The selected literature was analyzed through thematic coding and conceptual synthesis. The review identified six major dimensions of Arabic teacher competence in the digital era: (1) digital pedagogical competence, (2) technological integration competence, (3) digital literacy competence, (4) collaborative and communication competence, (5) adaptive and innovative competence, and (6) ethical and humanistic competence. These dimensions collectively support effective technology-enhanced Arabic language learning while maintaining pedagogical quality and ethical responsibility. The study is limited to conceptual analysis and does not include empirical validation. Future research is recommended to test and refine the proposed competency framework through field-based studies involving Arabic language teachers and educational institutions. This study offers an integrated conceptual framework for Arabic teacher competencies by synthesizing TPACK, DigCompEdu, constructivist learning theory, communicative language teaching, and 21st-century skills. The framework contributes to the development of Arabic teacher education, professional standards, and policy initiatives for digital learning.

Abstract

This study examines the association between perceived household income adequacy and multidimensional welfare among oil palm smallholder households in Sumber Sari Village, Bulutaba District, Pasangkayu Regency, West Sulawesi, from an Islamic economics perspective. It interprets perceived income adequacy not merely as an economic perception but as a welfare-related factor that supports falah, maslahah, family stability, and sustainable household welfare. This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional survey with a descriptive–associative approach. Data were collected from 70 oil palm smallholder households selected from a population of 230 households using simple random sampling. Perceived household income adequacy and multidimensional welfare were measured using Likert-scale questionnaire items and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression in RStudio. The results show a strong, positive, and statistically significant association between perceived household income adequacy and multidimensional welfare. The Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.822, and the regression coefficient was 0.816, with a p-value < 0.001. The regression model accounted for 67.6% of the variation in multidimensional welfare scores. The findings indicate that perceived income adequacy is closely related to household welfare. However, welfare policies should also strengthen education, health, productive assets, livelihood diversification, and household resilience. This study is limited to a single village and relies on self-reported Likert-scale data rather than detailed nominal income records. This study contributes village-level evidence by integrating statistical analysis of perceived income adequacy and multidimensional welfare with Islamic welfare concepts grounded in maqasid al-shari’ah.

Abstract

Gender socialization within the family is a crucial process that determines a woman’s future quality of life. The family serves as the primary agent for the structural transmission of gender norms to women. Studies on gender socialization in modern families generally highlight the dynamics of domestic role division and the negotiation of relationships. Nevertheless, women are still often positioned as passive recipients of the effects of social structures. This study aims to reconstruct this understanding by positioning women as active, reflective agents capable of interpreting, modifying, and negotiating gender norms based on religious values. This study employs a literature review approach through thematic synthesis of accredited national journal articles (minimum SINTA 4) and international theoretical literature. This study identified six strategies women employ in negotiating gender socialization: selective acceptance, reinterpretation of religious values, symbolic compromise and covert resistance, relational negotiation, management of dual roles, and cross-domain identity differentiation within the family and digital spaces. The analysis results indicate that gender socialization in modern families is a dialogical process between structure and agency. Research Implications – This study is limited to the specific literature cited for analysis, focusing on women’s strategies for negotiating gender socialization while considering religious values. Therefore, generalizations cannot be made to all modern families, which have distinct specific conditions. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the development of gender studies in Indonesia at the micro level. This study not only examines women’s strategies for addressing gender value contradictions but also views women as active individuals living within both modern families and digital spaces, who reinterpret religious teachings to apply them in the process of gender socialization at the family level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the values of tasamuh and ta’awun in Akidah Akhlak instruction to shape the character of eighth-grade students at State Madrasah Tsanawiyah 8 Muaro Jambi. This research is important because student behavior that does not fully reflect attitudes of tolerance, cooperation, and social concern is still observed within the school environment. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, with the research subjects being Akidah Akhlak teachers and eighth-grade students. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, while data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources and methods. The results of the study indicate that the application of the values of tasamuh and ta’awun is carried out through classroom instruction, teacher role modeling, school culture, communal worship activities, and social activities that support the formation of students’ Islamic character. The application of these values brings about changes in students’ character, such as an increase in mutual respect for differing opinions, the growth of social awareness and a spirit of mutual aid, improved cooperation among students, and a reduction in individualistic behavior and conflicts within the school environment. Supporting factors for the study include school support and the role of teachers, while inhibiting factors are the influence of the environment outside the school and the low awareness of some students in practicing these values. This study is limited to a single research location and focuses solely on eighth-grade students; therefore, the findings cannot yet be widely generalized. Nevertheless, this study can serve as a reference for the development of character education based on Islamic values in madrasah. This study offers novelty by focusing on the application of two Islamic values tasamuh and ta’awun in formal Akidah Akhlak instruction at the MTs level. It also contributes to strengthening Islamic character education through learning grounded in the values of moderation and social responsibility.
