Abstract

This study aims to construct the Eco Deep Aqidah Learning Model, or EDALM, for Aqidah Akhlak learning in the Professional Teacher Education, or PPG, context in Indonesia. The model responds to the gap between theological understanding and ecological practice by positioning tawhid, akhlak, and environmental responsibility as values that must be reflected, interpreted, and practiced in learning. This study employed a qualitative grounded theory approach involving 15 Aqidah Akhlak PPG participants selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through semi structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, then analyzed through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The findings generated EDALM as a substantive pedagogical model consisting of three interrelated processes: reflective theological awareness, contextual ecological interpretation, and experience based moral action. These processes explain how learners move from understanding tawhid and akhlak as normative concepts toward embodying ecological responsibility as part of religious commitment. EDALM differs from conventional Aqidah Akhlak learning by integrating eco theological reflection with deep learning mechanisms, so that learning is not limited to knowledge transmission but directed toward value internalization and transformative ecological religiosity. The study offers a conceptual and pedagogical basis for strengthening ecological awareness in Islamic teacher education. However, the model was developed within the specific context of Aqidah Akhlak PPG participants and therefore requires further validation in broader educational settings. This study contributes a grounded model of Aqidah Akhlak learning in the PPG context by operationalizing the relationship between Islamic eco theology, deep learning, and ecological value internalization. Its originality lies not in claiming that eco theology and deep learning are entirely new discourses, but in formulating an empirically grounded model that connects these concepts within a structured Islamic teacher education framework.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the process of learning to read the Qur’an, identify barriers and factors causing difficulties in reading the Qur’an among seventh-grade students in Class VII A, and analyze teachers’ efforts to overcome these barriers in learning to read the Qur’an at SMP Negeri 60 Muaro Jambi. This study employed a qualitative approach using the case study method. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consisted of Islamic Religious Education teachers and seventh-grade students in Class 7A at SMP Negeri 60 Muaro Jambi. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that students’ ability to read the Qur’an varies. Some students are already able to read the Qur’an fairly fluently, while others still face difficulties in recognizing the Arabic alphabet, understanding the articulation points of letters, and applying the rules of tajwid. The main obstacles identified include low learning motivation, a lack of practice reading the Qur’an at home, limited learning time, and minimal family support. Teachers used the talaqqi method, group reading, reading demonstrations, repetitive practice, and individual instruction to help students improve their Qur’an reading skills. This study indicates that Quranic reading instruction requires varied methods, sustained practice, and support from both the family and the school environment. The limitation of this study lies in its scope, which was confined to a single class and a single school; therefore, the findings cannot yet be widely generalized. This study possesses originality as it thoroughly examines the barriers to Quranic reading instruction alongside the methods teachers employ to address them within the context of junior high school students in rural areas. It is hoped that this study will serve as a reference for Islamic Religious Education teachers in enhancing the effectiveness of Quranic reading instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the principles of social media communication ethics in the Qurʻan and their relevance to the phenomenon of hate speech in digital spaces. Its primary contribution lies in the reconstruction of Qurʻanic moral values through Fazlur Rahman’s double movement approach in order to construct a contextual and operationally applicable Qurʻan-based social media ethics, thereby distinguishing it from existing normative studies. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. The study applies thematic interpretation (tafsīr maudhū‘ī) combined with Fazlur Rahman’s double movement hermeneutical approach to analyze Qur’anic verses related to communication ethics, particularly Q.S. al-Hujurat (49:11–12; 49:6) and Q.S. al-Ahzab (33:70). Through the first movement, the three verses are shown to respond to distinct socio-historical contexts: Q.S. al-Hujurat 11–12 addresses the culture of inter-tribal mockery and verbal degradation in pre-Islamic Arabia; Q.S. al-Hujurat 6 responds to a crisis of information validity caused by an inaccurate report; and Q.S. al-Ahzab 70 constitutes a universal command for communicative integrity. Through the second movement, each verse yields universal moral ideals that remain contextually relevant: the prohibitions of sukhriyah, lamz, tanabuz, suʻudzan, tajassus, and ghibah map precisely onto the phenomena of cyberbullying, body shaming, digital gossip, and trial by netizen; the principle of tabayyun functions as a preventive mechanism against hoaxes and disinformation; and qaulan sadidan establishes the standard for integrity in digital communication. The analysis further affirms that hate speech, hoaxes, and ghibah, while overlapping, are conceptually distinct phenomena requiring differentiated ethical responses. This study is limited to textual and contextual analyses of Qur’anic verses through a thematic interpretative approach. Therefore, further empirical research is needed to examine the implementation of Qur’anic communication ethics within contemporary digital society. This study contributes to the development of Qur’an-based digital communication ethics by contextualizing Qur’anic moral values through Fazlur Rahman’s double movement approach in responding to the phenomenon of hate speech on social media.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how Islamic philanthropy strengthens social solidarity within the Chinese Muslim community in South Sumatra through zakat, infaq, sedekah, waqf and social donations, as well as charitable programs, religious study groups (Majelis Taklim), guidance for converts to Islam, and religious activities during Ramadan. This study used a qualitative case study approach that included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of philanthropic activities. Four informants participated: two representatives from PITI and two community members. Additionally, activity records, news stories, and publication pertinent to PITI South Sumatra’s charitable endeavors were used to gather research data. Field data collection lasted three months. Thematically, the data were analyzed through transcription, coding, theme categorization, and interpretation to examine the relationship between philanthropic activities and strengthening social solidarity. Islamic philanthropy increases member participation, builds trust, norms of reciprocity, and community cohesion. Transparent fund distribution and socio-religious programs strengthen internal solidarity, while collaboration with donors and external institutions expands social networks and enhances community legitimacy. These results demonstrate the importance of governance and collaboration in philanthropy to build solidarity. The study is limited to one community and is qualitative in nature, so the results cannot be generalized, and the economic impact was not analyzed. This research provides empirical evidence regarding the role of Islamic philanthropy in building solidarity among minority communities and serves as a reference for more effective management of socio-religious for quantitative and comparative research in other communities.

Abstract

This study explores how the Teaching Assistance Program at Educational Units (Asistensi Mengajar pada Satuan Pendidikan/AMSP) supports the development of pedagogical competence among Islamic Religious Education (PAI) students at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Datokarama Palu. The study addresses the gap between campus-based pedagogical theory and students’ classroom practice, with attention to the integration of Islamic values in teaching. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight PAI students, two cooperating teachers, and one school principal, supported by document analysis of AMSP technical guidelines, lesson plans, logbooks, and program reports, as well as non-participant observation. Data were analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, with credibility strengthened through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The findings indicate that AMSP supported the development of students’ pedagogical competence in three main areas: lesson planning became more contextual and realistic; teaching implementation shifted toward more active and innovative learning; and learning assessment became more comprehensive by covering cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The main constraints were limited formal coordination between university supervisors and cooperating teachers, early classroom management difficulties, administrative workload, and curriculum adjustment challenges. The findings are limited to PAI students, selected partner schools, and one academic period. Because the study used a qualitative design, the results should be understood as evidence of perceived and observed pedagogical development rather than a statistical measure of program contribution. This study contributes to the conceptual discussion of field experience, pedagogical competence, Islamic value integration, and pre-service PAI teacher formation within Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Micro Waqf Banks (BWM) as an Islamic microeconomic practice using Maqasid al-Syariah as a normative evaluative framework, focusing on wealth protection (ḥifẓ al-māl) and life protection (ḥifẓ al-nafs), and to examine whether these maqāṣid orientations have been explicitly institutionalized. The study employs a qualitative normative-conceptual approach with a library‑based research design. Data were drawn from waqf regulations, official BWM documents, Islamic financial institution publications, and relevant academic literature. Results indicate that BWM functions as an Islamic microeconomic institution that structurally integrates philanthropic values with Sharia financing mechanisms. BWM practices demonstrate strong alignment with ḥifẓ al-māl through productive waqf fund management and collateral‑free financing, and with ḥifẓ al-nafs through inclusive financial access and holistic mentoring programs. However, this maqāṣid orientation remains implicit and has not been institutionalized through formal indicators, evaluation standards, or governance mechanisms. The study advances five original theoretical contributions: (1) maqasid‑embedded institutional design; (2) the maqasid multiplier mechanism, whereby a single program generates cascading outcomes across multiple maqasid dimensions; (3) nascent maqasid institutionalization as a distinct intermediate governance phase; (4) the institutionalization gap as a generalizable diagnostic concept for Islamic microfinance; and (5) maqasid accountability as an irreducible dimension of institutional legitimacy for Islamic social finance. The findings provide a normative governance roadmap for BWM management and offer policy recommendations for regulators seeking to develop maqasid‑based evaluation standards for Islamic microeconomic institutions in Indonesia. This study is limited to normative‑conceptual analysis based on secondary data without field observation, focusing only on two Maqasid dimensions. Future research should conduct empirical studies and field observations, and incorporate additional maqasid dimensions to validate and extend the proposed framework. This study offers novelty by positioning Maqasid al‑Syariah as an operational normative framework for evaluating Islamic microfinance institutions, providing insights for developing comprehensive evaluation instruments, and informing policy formulation by integrating maqāṣid values into Islamic microeconomic governance.

Abstract

Focusing on Tanah Datar Regency, this study examines the efforts of Zakat Management Organizations (OPZ) in responding to the Galodo disaster and explores the specific approaches taken by BAZNAS and LAZ. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a field approach. To gather information, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Specifically, in-depth interviews with the OPZ, village government, and affected communities were conducted using a snowball sampling technique. Subsequently, data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model. The research findings show that the role of OPZ is highly significant in disaster management in Tanah Datar Regency. These roles includes life-saving efforts, the fulfillment of basic needs such as food assistance and temporary shelter, the provision of psychological support, the development of essential infrastructure, and long-term recovery for survivors who fall into the poor category. OPZ has been proven to play a strategic and comprehensive role in disaster management systems. However, this study has limitations, including an observation period only up to early 2025, insufficiently detailed distribution data, and a geographically limited scope confined to Tanah Datar Regency, which restricts the analysis of the long-term economic impacts of this role. This study provides novelty by exploring the role of OPZ in disaster areas, specifically the Galodo disaster in Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra.

Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) analyse the initial conditions of children's growth mindset and grit deficiencies, (2) describe the implementation of Science, Technology, and Society (STS)-based pedagogical strategies integrated through traditional games (asing-asing, bom, and kucing dan tikus), and (3) analyse their empirical impact on the development of early childhood growth mindsets. This research used an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. Quantitative data from a quasi-experimental setup (N=30) were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. These outputs were then sequentially integrated and triangulated with qualitative data obtained from semi-structured teacher interviews, field observations, and audio-visual documentation logs involving children and teachers at Raudhatul Athfal (RA) Ihya Ulum in Makassar City. The results indicated that children's initial conditions were dominated by a rigid fixed mindset and social-emotional deficiencies, characterised by persistent egocentrism, low perseverance, and a tendency to avoid difficult tasks. The implementation of STS-based pedagogical strategies through culturally rooted traditional games, combined with adaptive teacher scaffolding and effort-based reinforcement, has been proven to create meaningful learning experiences. Post-intervention empirical analysis demonstrated a profound statistical leap in the experimental group, with growth mindset mean scores rising significantly from 16.30 to 20.70 (p=0.005), in sharp contrast to the control group’s stagnation. Qualitative triangulation confirmed that this active approach successfully dismantled egocentric isolation, nurtured emotional self-regulation, and enabled children to constructively reframe failures into strategic opportunities for growth. This study bridges the gap between cognitive STS frameworks and affective mindset theories. Practically, it provides a cost-effective, easily applicable, and culturally responsive curriculum model for preschool educators to strengthen early childhood integrative experience-based learning, particularly within the context of Islamic education. Previous STS research heavily emphasises cognitive outputs, leaving critical affective dimensions like grit and mindset transformation unexplored within preschool Islamic frameworks. Another research gap lies in the lack of case-centered classroom studies illustrating the real-time implementation of these pedagogical strategies. Therefore, this study fills these gaps by examining how an STS-infused traditional games strategy structurally transforms fixed mindsets into growth mindsets in an RA setting. This study provides a practical, low-cost blueprint for teachers to foster psychological resilience and 21st-century social competence through structured play.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of murabahah financing, Islamic service ethics, and service accessibility on customer commitment at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Palopo Branch Office. This study was conducted as an effort to fill the gap in previous research which generally focused more on the aspects of customer satisfaction and loyalty, while customer commitment as a form of long-term relationship is still relatively rarely studied in depth. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The population in this study is all active customers of BSI Palopo Branch Office which is 23,818 customers. The sample was determined using the Slovin formula so that as many as 100 respondents were obtained by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire, then analyzed using multiple linear regression, classical assumption test, t test, F test, and determination coefficient with the help of SPSS software. The results of the study show that partially murabahah financing has a positive and significant influence on customer commitment. Meanwhile, Islamic service ethics and service accessibility did not have a significant impact, although both showed a positive relationship direction. Simultaneously, these three variables have been proven to have a significant effect on customer commitment. The value of the determination coefficient shows that the research model is able to explain some of the variations in customer commitment. This study has limitations because it was only conducted at one research site with a relatively limited number of respondents, so generalization of results needs to be done carefully. Therefore, further research is recommended to expand the coverage of the region and add other variables in order to obtain more comprehensive results. This research makes a new contribution by integrating murabahah financing, Islamic service ethics, and service accessibility in explaining customer commitment in the context of Islamic banking at the local level.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the personality competencies possessed by Islamic Religious Education lecturers at state public universities in Makassar City and to identify strategies for implementing and strengthening these competencies in higher education contexts. This study employed a qualitative field research design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The analysis used a personality competence performance approach to examine how Islamic Religious Education lecturers demonstrate, apply, and develop their personality competencies in academic and social settings. The findings show that Islamic Religious Education lecturers at state public universities in Makassar City contribute to the creation of an academic environment that supports students’ intellectual growth and character formation holistically. Their personality competencies are reflected in the integration of religious values into daily academic practices, active involvement in student development, cooperation and collaboration within inclusive academic environments, participation in curriculum development, and the demonstration of wise and prudent leadership. These competencies not only influence students’ personal and academic development but also provide broader positive contributions to universities and society. This study implies that the development of personality competencies among Islamic Religious Education lecturers at public universities in Makassar needs to be strengthened through patterns that are relevant to the needs of Islamic Religious Education in public higher education. Personality competencies should also be adjusted to the scientific expertise of each lecturer so that the knowledge, attitudes, and values delivered remain consistent with the academic discipline of Islamic Religious Education. This study is limited to the description of personality competencies and strengthening strategies among Islamic Religious Education lecturers at state public universities in Makassar City. This study provides an overview of personality competencies and strengthening strategies among Islamic Religious Education lecturers at three state public universities in Makassar City: Universitas Hasanuddin, Universitas Negeri Makassar, and Politeknik Negeri Ujungpandang.
