Abstract

This study aims to construct the Eco Deep Aqidah Learning Model, or EDALM, for Aqidah Akhlak learning in the Professional Teacher Education, or PPG, context in Indonesia. The model responds to the gap between theological understanding and ecological practice by positioning tawhid, akhlak, and environmental responsibility as values that must be reflected, interpreted, and practiced in learning. This study employed a qualitative grounded theory approach involving 15 Aqidah Akhlak PPG participants selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through semi structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, then analyzed through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The findings generated EDALM as a substantive pedagogical model consisting of three interrelated processes: reflective theological awareness, contextual ecological interpretation, and experience based moral action. These processes explain how learners move from understanding tawhid and akhlak as normative concepts toward embodying ecological responsibility as part of religious commitment. EDALM differs from conventional Aqidah Akhlak learning by integrating eco theological reflection with deep learning mechanisms, so that learning is not limited to knowledge transmission but directed toward value internalization and transformative ecological religiosity. The study offers a conceptual and pedagogical basis for strengthening ecological awareness in Islamic teacher education. However, the model was developed within the specific context of Aqidah Akhlak PPG participants and therefore requires further validation in broader educational settings. This study contributes a grounded model of Aqidah Akhlak learning in the PPG context by operationalizing the relationship between Islamic eco theology, deep learning, and ecological value internalization. Its originality lies not in claiming that eco theology and deep learning are entirely new discourses, but in formulating an empirically grounded model that connects these concepts within a structured Islamic teacher education framework.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the process of learning to read the Qur’an, identify barriers and factors causing difficulties in reading the Qur’an among seventh-grade students in Class VII A, and analyze teachers’ efforts to overcome these barriers in learning to read the Qur’an at SMP Negeri 60 Muaro Jambi. This study employed a qualitative approach using the case study method. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consisted of Islamic Religious Education teachers and seventh-grade students in Class 7A at SMP Negeri 60 Muaro Jambi. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that students’ ability to read the Qur’an varies. Some students are already able to read the Qur’an fairly fluently, while others still face difficulties in recognizing the Arabic alphabet, understanding the articulation points of letters, and applying the rules of tajwid. The main obstacles identified include low learning motivation, a lack of practice reading the Qur’an at home, limited learning time, and minimal family support. Teachers used the talaqqi method, group reading, reading demonstrations, repetitive practice, and individual instruction to help students improve their Qur’an reading skills. This study indicates that Quranic reading instruction requires varied methods, sustained practice, and support from both the family and the school environment. The limitation of this study lies in its scope, which was confined to a single class and a single school; therefore, the findings cannot yet be widely generalized. This study possesses originality as it thoroughly examines the barriers to Quranic reading instruction alongside the methods teachers employ to address them within the context of junior high school students in rural areas. It is hoped that this study will serve as a reference for Islamic Religious Education teachers in enhancing the effectiveness of Quranic reading instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the principles of social media communication ethics in the Qurʻan and their relevance to the phenomenon of hate speech in digital spaces. Its primary contribution lies in the reconstruction of Qurʻanic moral values through Fazlur Rahman’s double movement approach in order to construct a contextual and operationally applicable Qurʻan-based social media ethics, thereby distinguishing it from existing normative studies. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. The study applies thematic interpretation (tafsīr maudhū‘ī) combined with Fazlur Rahman’s double movement hermeneutical approach to analyze Qur’anic verses related to communication ethics, particularly Q.S. al-Hujurat (49:11–12; 49:6) and Q.S. al-Ahzab (33:70). Through the first movement, the three verses are shown to respond to distinct socio-historical contexts: Q.S. al-Hujurat 11–12 addresses the culture of inter-tribal mockery and verbal degradation in pre-Islamic Arabia; Q.S. al-Hujurat 6 responds to a crisis of information validity caused by an inaccurate report; and Q.S. al-Ahzab 70 constitutes a universal command for communicative integrity. Through the second movement, each verse yields universal moral ideals that remain contextually relevant: the prohibitions of sukhriyah, lamz, tanabuz, suʻudzan, tajassus, and ghibah map precisely onto the phenomena of cyberbullying, body shaming, digital gossip, and trial by netizen; the principle of tabayyun functions as a preventive mechanism against hoaxes and disinformation; and qaulan sadidan establishes the standard for integrity in digital communication. The analysis further affirms that hate speech, hoaxes, and ghibah, while overlapping, are conceptually distinct phenomena requiring differentiated ethical responses. This study is limited to textual and contextual analyses of Qur’anic verses through a thematic interpretative approach. Therefore, further empirical research is needed to examine the implementation of Qur’anic communication ethics within contemporary digital society. This study contributes to the development of Qur’an-based digital communication ethics by contextualizing Qur’anic moral values through Fazlur Rahman’s double movement approach in responding to the phenomenon of hate speech on social media.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how Islamic philanthropy strengthens social solidarity within the Chinese Muslim community in South Sumatra through zakat, infaq, sedekah, waqf and social donations, as well as charitable programs, religious study groups (Majelis Taklim), guidance for converts to Islam, and religious activities during Ramadan. This study used a qualitative case study approach that included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of philanthropic activities. Four informants participated: two representatives from PITI and two community members. Additionally, activity records, news stories, and publication pertinent to PITI South Sumatra’s charitable endeavors were used to gather research data. Field data collection lasted three months. Thematically, the data were analyzed through transcription, coding, theme categorization, and interpretation to examine the relationship between philanthropic activities and strengthening social solidarity. Islamic philanthropy increases member participation, builds trust, norms of reciprocity, and community cohesion. Transparent fund distribution and socio-religious programs strengthen internal solidarity, while collaboration with donors and external institutions expands social networks and enhances community legitimacy. These results demonstrate the importance of governance and collaboration in philanthropy to build solidarity. The study is limited to one community and is qualitative in nature, so the results cannot be generalized, and the economic impact was not analyzed. This research provides empirical evidence regarding the role of Islamic philanthropy in building solidarity among minority communities and serves as a reference for more effective management of socio-religious for quantitative and comparative research in other communities.

Abstract

This study explores how the Teaching Assistance Program at Educational Units (Asistensi Mengajar pada Satuan Pendidikan/AMSP) supports the development of pedagogical competence among Islamic Religious Education (PAI) students at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Datokarama Palu. The study addresses the gap between campus-based pedagogical theory and students’ classroom practice, with attention to the integration of Islamic values in teaching. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight PAI students, two cooperating teachers, and one school principal, supported by document analysis of AMSP technical guidelines, lesson plans, logbooks, and program reports, as well as non-participant observation. Data were analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, with credibility strengthened through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The findings indicate that AMSP supported the development of students’ pedagogical competence in three main areas: lesson planning became more contextual and realistic; teaching implementation shifted toward more active and innovative learning; and learning assessment became more comprehensive by covering cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. The main constraints were limited formal coordination between university supervisors and cooperating teachers, early classroom management difficulties, administrative workload, and curriculum adjustment challenges. The findings are limited to PAI students, selected partner schools, and one academic period. Because the study used a qualitative design, the results should be understood as evidence of perceived and observed pedagogical development rather than a statistical measure of program contribution. This study contributes to the conceptual discussion of field experience, pedagogical competence, Islamic value integration, and pre-service PAI teacher formation within Islamic higher education.
