Abstract

The MBKM student exchange program is conducted in the Department of Educational Management, FIP, State University of Surabaya. The program is implemented online considering the pandemic is still ongoing. This research has a high urgency because it is important to know how the management of MBKM student exchanges during the Covid-19 pandemic, considering that so far student exchanges have been carried out directly or face-to-face before the Covid-19 pandemic. A qualitative approach with the case study method was used in this research. The results showed that student exchange management started from planning, organizing, implementing, to evaluating. The four steps are summarized in seven activities in the management of MBKM student exchange during the pandemic in the Department of Education Management, FIP Unesa, namely: (1) planning; (2) socialization; (3) recruitment; (4) student orientation; (5) student placement; (6) student development; and (7) recording and reporting. This study can be used as recommendations for the implementation of online student exchanges by other universities because it shows the process starting from program planning, organizing, implementing, to evaluation.

Abstract

Reflective thinking skills are very important because they are a major part of achieving mathematics learning objectives. However, the reality in the field found problems in students, such as their difficulty in connecting new knowledge with what they already know before. The research conducted aims to describe the ability of reflective thinking in terms of Gregorc thinking style of class XI students at SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak. Descriptive qualitative is the method used in this research with instruments in the form of thinking style tests, reflective thinking ability tests, and interview guidelines. This research involved 4 students of class XI C SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak as subjects. Based on the research results, it was found that subjects with SK thinking style fulfilled all indicators of reflective thinking, subjects with SA thinking style only fulfilled two indicators of reflective thinking, subjects with AK thinking style only fulfilled one indicator of reflective thinking, and subjects with AA thinking style only fulfilled one indicator of reflective thinking. Teachers are advised to consider students thinking styles in learning, while other researchers are advised to examine the comparison of reflective thinking abilities based on differences in thinking styles

Abstract

This study examines the trends, challenges, and opportunities in the use of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) within mathematics education. Employing a descriptive bibliometric approach, this research analyzed 1.800 publications indexed in Dimensions.ai from 2020 to 2025 using VOSviewer software to visualize and interpret keyword co-occurrence, citation patterns, and research networks. The results indicate a substantial growth in MOOC related mathematics studies from 2020 to 2022, followed by stabilization during 2023–2025, signaling the transition of MOOCs from emergency digital instruction toward a more structured and sustainable learning ecosystem. The visualization results identified four dominant thematic clusters: (1) pedagogical engagement and learning design, (2) data analytics and intelligent systems, (3) access, equity, and institutional policy, and (4) cognitive and affective learning outcomes. Despite significant progress in expanding global access to mathematical learning, persistent challenges remain particularly low course completion rates, limited adaptivity of mathematical content, and infrastructural disparities across regions. Nevertheless, the integration of AI-based personalization, learning analytics, and immersive technologies (VR/AR) provides promising directions for enhancing mathematical reasoning, engagement, and teacher professional development. Overall, this study contributes a comprehensive bibliometric overview and highlights the potential for MOOCs to evolve into adaptive, equitable, and data-informed digital learning ecosystems that advance the quality and inclusivity of mathematics education.

Abstract

The main objective of the study was to implement a community-based Qur'anic Education Center management model to improve community involvement and the quality of Qur'anic learning. This is based on the argument that the sustainability and effectiveness of non-formal education, such as the Qur'anic Education Park, is highly dependent on the support and active involvement of the surrounding community. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach to analyze the management of a community-based Qur'anic Education Park at the Sritanjung Qur'anic Education Park in Rogojampi Banyuwangi. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with managers, community leaders, and santri guardians, and documentation studies. Data analysis was carried out using interactive analysis techniques, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was strengthened through triangulation of sources and methods. This study aims to provide a comprehensive picture as well as recommendations for strategies to improve participation and quality of learning in community-based Qur'anic Education Centers. The results of this study indicate that community participation in the management of the Sritanjung Rogojampi Qur'anic Education Park is still passive, focusing more on material support than strategic involvement. This is due to the lack of awareness and socialization of the management of the Al-Qur'an Education Park. In addition, the competence of educators is still an obstacle because the majority teach voluntarily without adequate training, so learning methods are less innovative. The lack of collaboration with external parties such as mosques, NGOs and the government also hinders the development of the Qur'anic Education Park. Therefore, it is necessary to increase community involvement, training for educators, and strengthening cooperation networks to increase the effectiveness and sustainability of religious education for students.

Abstract

This article presents the application of a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach in the Numerical Methods course, focusing on developing a numerical algorithm for power system computation. The study addresses the challenges of efficiently calculating the bus admittance matrix (Ybus), bus numbering sequences, and handling double-line connections, all crucial for accurate power flow analysis. The objective is to create an efficient algorithm that can be applied to a 7-bus power system, enhancing students' practical skills in numerical methods. The results demonstrate that the algorithm successfully computes the Ybus matrix, resolves bus numbering issues, and handles double-line connections. This approach not only improves computational efficiency but also deepens students' theoretical knowledge and practical problem-solving abilities. The study highlights the effectiveness of PjBL in teaching numerical methods, offering valuable insights for its application in other engineering fields to enhance both learning and real-world problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This study aims to design and develop interactive learning media integrated with virtual reality (VR) technology to enhance elementary students’ conceptual understanding of science, particularly on the topic of the air cycle. The research employed the Lee and Owens (2004) model of instructional design, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The resulting product is a mobile learning application accessible via smartphones, featuring a user-friendly interface, multimedia content, learning videos, interactive simulations, and self-assessment quizzes. The VR-based learning environment allows students to explore scientific concepts both independently and collaboratively under teacher guidance, without spatial and temporal constraints. Expert validation involving media specialists, subject-matter experts, and science teachers indicated high levels of feasibility and appropriateness of the developed media. Field testing with fifth-grade students revealed a significant improvement in their conceptual understanding, as evidenced by increased post-test scores compared to pre-test results. These findings demonstrate that integrating VR into interactive learning media offers an effective approach to support science learning in elementary education and provides a promising direction for immersive digital pedagogy.

Abstract

Background: The effectiveness of school-based nutrition intervention programs in improving students’ readiness to learn continues to yield mixed results, particularly when implemented in educational settings with heterogeneous social characteristics.Objective: This study aims to analyze the fulfillment of students’ basic needs through the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) and its implications for learning readiness and the learning climate at MTs Hidayatullah, Temanggung Regency, Central Java.Method: This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Participants included eight students, four teachers who also served as homeroom teachers, the school principal, and the program coordinator, all selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observations in 10 classes (grades VII–IX), in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model through continuous data reduction, data presentation, and drawing of conclusions.Results: The results indicate that the MBG Program contributes to meeting students’ physiological needs by providing meals during school hours and reducing distractions caused by hunger. However, its impact on learning concentration, attendance, learning behavior, and emotional well-being has not yet shown significant and consistent changes.Conclusion: These findings suggest that meeting physiological needs is insufficient to enhance student engagement in learning without the support of psychosocial factors and a broader learning environment.

Abstract

Backgrounds: Mastery of Arabic vocabulary is essential for language proficiency; however, instruction in Islamic senior high schools remains dominated by memorisation and drill methods, resulting in low retention and limited integration of cognitively grounded digital media. Objectives: This study aims to analyse students’ needs in Arabic vocabulary learning, examine the feasibility of iSpring-based learning media grounded in Dual Coding Theory, and test its effectiveness in improving vocabulary mastery. Methods: The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, combined with a one-group pre-test–post-test design. Data were collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and vocabulary tests, and analysed using a mixed-methods approach. Results:The results indicate that students require interactive digital media integrating visual and audio elements. The developed iSpring-based media was categorised as highly feasible based on expert validation. The effectiveness test involving 26 students (n = 26) revealed a statistically significant improvement in vocabulary mastery, as reflected by the increase in mean scores from pre-test (M = 68.85) to post-test (M = 77.31), t(25) = 7.04, p < 0.001, with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.38). Abstract

Background: Arabic reading instruction in Madrasah Aliyah is often dominated by literal and transmissive approaches, limiting students’ engagement and higher-order thinking.Objective: This study aims to analyze the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in Arabic reading instruction, focusing on student engagement, learning processes, and contextual factors influencing its application.Method: Employing a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design, this research involved two Arabic teachers and 30 purposively selected tenth-grade students. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis.Results: The findings reveal that PBL transforms reading instruction into a dialogic and problem-oriented process through authentic text problematization and collaborative inquiry. This approach enhances students’ cognitive, emotional, and social engagement, particularly in developing inferential comprehension and critical interpretation of texts. Supporting factors include teachers’ pedagogical competence and a collaborative school culture, while challenges involve time constraints and diverse student abilities.Conclusion: This study contributes theoretically by extending constructivist reading pedagogy into the context of Arabic literacy in Islamic education, highlighting how PBL facilitates meaning-making through socio-religious texts. Practically, it offers an implementable framework for designing contextual and dialogic Arabic reading instruction that promotes critical literacy. These findings provide new insights into how and why PBL works in complex linguistic and cultural learning environments.

Abstract

Background: Huma Betang (big house) is a philosophy of the Dayak community and serves as a value instilled in learning at schools in Central Kalimantan. While numerous studies have explored the application and inculcation of Huma Betang character values in students, few have quantitatively measured and mapped these characters as part of educational evaluation. Objective: This study aims to map the profile of the Huma Betang character in Physics learning among high school students in Palangka Raya City, Central Kalimantan. The characters measured in this study consist of four pillars: Hapahari (kinship), Handep (mutual assistance), Belom Bahadat (civilized living), and Hapakat Kula (mutual consensus). Method: This study utilized R-Studio software with the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) algorithm to predict character profiles and Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) to cluster the levels of the Huma Betang character, which were then compared with the Ideal Standard Deviation (ISD) categorization. This research is a descriptive study involving 290 students from schools in the center and outskirts of Palangka Raya city. The instrument used was in the form of a Situational Judgement Test (SJT) consisting of 23 statement items for the four pillars of Huma Betang. Results: The Ideal Standard Deviation, Artifial Neural Network, and Fuzzy C-Means analyses revealed the existence of six categories: very weak (1), weak (12), moderate (97), lower-strong (80), upper-strong (83), and very strong (17). The strong category contains the most student number, which mean Huma Betang character has been internalized by student in Palangka Raya. Conclusion: The triangulation of the three analytical methods provided a comprehensive profile of Huma Betang character, allowing for more targeted character-building interventions, specifically through the integration of students' specific roles in practical activities and physics projects.
