Abstract

Character education has a significant role in instilling positive character strengths that help to shape a positive mind, a positive attitude, and positive behavior in children.  Next to the commonly used didactic approaches, narrative interventions can be used to ‘package’ key moral messages about character strength in entertaining storylines. Unfortunately, empirical studies on the effectiveness of narrative methods for teaching character education to children is scattered across different disciplines. This review aimed to comprehensively describe the published studies, and identify the main elements used for children’s character education in the narratives. Eight databases of studies published between January 1980 and March 2018 were searched for narrative interventions that focused on character education aimed at children. The searches yielded seven studies with a great variety in outcome measures. Findings consistently suggest that narratives with positive approaches can generate honesty and kindness effectively in children. Employing a positively framed story, giving instructions, and encouraging children to explain the key story events half way and at the end of the story can especially produce preferable results in adopting the character strengths.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to increase the level of children's happiness using Folklore-Based Storytelling, which develops ideogenous values in the implementation of counseling interventions. Happiness is defined as a state of joy and peace free from all problems. Storytelling is an extraordinary ability in storytelling that functions to entertain children's life values. The use of the folklore approach is based on the fact that almost all ages like stories that are told orally. The research method used is a mixed method approach with a sequential exploratory design. Qualitative design using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) explores how individuals understand their personal and social world through a detailed examination of their lives's experiences. The quantitative research design used is a single subject. The results of the qualitative analysis concluded that happiness according to the subject refers to the state of acceptance, attention, imagination, dreams, hopes, feelings of security, feelings of being loved, recognition, praise, appreciation, self-involvement, being heard. While the results of the feasibility test technique showed that the PND test results showed 5 points above the horizontal line PND is from 5 points of the intervention phase. This shows that the storytelling technique is very effective in developing children's happiness. Storytelling with a folklore approach is believed to be able to bring out happiness in children.

Abstract

Family readiness is crucial in Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) therapy, as families play a central role as caregivers, helping to maintain care quality and reduce complications. This scoping review aims to systematically assess the literature to identify key aspects of family readiness in supporting patients undergoing CAPD therapy, highlighting its importance for better patient outcomes and its contribution to broader knowledge in patient care. Literature was selected using the Population and Concept (PC) framework, with the population of interest being families of CAPD patients and the concept focused on family readiness. Studies from 2015 to December 2023 were sourced from PubMed, Science Direct, PROQUEST, and Google Scholar, with inclusion criteria focusing on family involvement in CAPD care and exclusion criteria eliminating non-relevant studies. Ten articles met the criteria, revealing critical aspects of family readiness, including caregiving burden, communication with healthcare providers, knowledge of the disease and therapy, material and emotional support, and understanding of the dialysis service system. These factors are essential for ensuring quality care, reducing risks, and improving overall CAPD therapy success.

Abstract

This research is based on the critical role of social marketing in raising awareness and promoting healthy behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in Jayapura City, where challenges persist in disseminating effective information and influencing public behavior regarding health protocol adherence. The study aims to analyze the implementation of social marketing through promotional media, such as posters and health protocols displayed in public areas, in enhancing knowledge and influencing behavioral changes among the residents of Jayapura City in COVID-19 prevention. A qualitative case study method was used to evaluate the implementation of social marketing in COVID-19 promotional media and its impact on public knowledge in Jayapura City. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews with respondents from diverse social backgrounds, as well as direct observation of promotional media distributed throughout the city. The findings reveal that while promotional media, such as COVID-19 posters and health protocols displayed in public areas, succeeded in improving the public's basic understanding of the importance of health protocols, there were significant barriers to the consistent application of such behaviors. Factors such as limited access to information, a lack of in-depth understanding, and social resistance to behavioral changes posed considerable challenges to enhancing the effectiveness of the campaign. The research also found that while the campaign positively impacted awareness levels, a more integrated and contextual approach is needed to achieve comprehensive behavioral change among the community.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic led to prolonged isolation and a widespread shift to online education, which has influenced students' emotional well-being. As schools transitioned back to in-person learning, many students exhibited signs of anxiety. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is recognized as a promising method for addressing post-isolation anxiety by helping students develop rational thoughts and emotional regulation. This study explores the prevalence of anxiety among students involved in distance learning and examines the effectiveness of REBT in alleviating this anxiety. A single case design was employed with 6 students, selected from an initial group of 121 participants from five junior high schools in Denpasar, Indonesia. After filling out an anxiety questionnaire, 6 students were selected based on their anxiety levels and willingness to participate. These students underwent 12 REBT sessions, which included both group therapy and individual techniques. The analysis of pre- and post-test data revealed a significant reduction of 33.5% in anxiety levels, with statistical analysis showing a p-value of 0.025 (<0.05), confirming the positive impact of REBT. The study highlights the importance of addressing anxiety during transitions in education and underscores the potential of REBT in improving students' emotional well-being in post-pandemic learning environments. Further research can explore the long-term effects of REBT and its integration into school-based mental health programs.
