Abstract

This study aims to map the level of teachers’ interpersonal communication in senior high schools as a basis for strengthening educational relationships. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, the study involved all 113 teachers from two senior high schools (49.5%) and SMA Negeri 3 Pariaman (50.5%) through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of 25 items representing five indicators: openness and feedback, collaboration and teamwork, use of technology in communication, conflict management, and leadership supporting adaptive communication. Descriptive statistical analysis was applied to determine mean scores and achievement levels. The results indicate that teachers’ interpersonal communication is generally at a high level (mean = 3.81; 76.28%). Collaboration and teamwork emerged as the strongest dimension, followed by openness and feedback and leadership support, while communication technology use and conflict management showed relatively lower scores. This study contributes by providing an empirical mapping of teachers’ interpersonal communication as a foundation for strengthening professional relationships in secondary education. The findings imply the need for targeted professional development programs, particularly in conflict resolution and digital communication practices. However, this study is limited to two public senior high schools and relies on self-reported data, which may restrict the generalizability of the findings. Future research is recommended to involve broader samples and mixed-method approaches to gain deeper insights into interpersonal communication dynamics in schools.

Abstract

This study examines how Minangkabau cultural identity is visually constructed and negotiated through the storefront displays of Warung Makan Padang Ampera (WMPA) in Java’s rantau (migration) context. Using a qualitative multi-site design, we documented 60 WMPA storefronts in Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Malang through systematic photography and field notes, complemented by photo-elicitation interviews with owners. Visual data were analyzed using Barthes’ tri-level semiotic framework (denotation, connotation, and myth) to identify recurrent signs and the cultural narratives they stabilize. The findings reveal a consistent set of identity anchors marawa color codes, Minangkabau roofline (gonjong) icons, and open paluang/stacked-plate showcases while typography, façade composition, and material treatments adapt to local urban constraints and market positioning. Beyond mapping recurring elements, the study argues that WMPA visual branding functions as a model of vernacular modernity, where recognizability is secured through stable anchors while urban viability is achieved through flexible, street-level adaptation. The significance of these findings lies in extending cultural branding and vernacular aesthetics scholarship from corporate and heritage settings to everyday micro-entrepreneurial foodscapes, showing how cultural identity and trust cues are maintained and recalibrated in ordinary commercial environments. Methodologically, this research contributes by operationalizing Barthes’ tri-level analysis for food-stall storefronts, offering a replicable protocol for interpreting visual identity in informal urban commerce.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how illustration-based visual content on Instagram functions as a communicative strategy for mental health advocacy, community building, and stigma reduction in digital environments. Using a qualitative approach, the research integrates netnography and content analysis to examine posts, visual elements, and audience interactions across selected accounts, including @gemmacorrell, @wantja, @bevscomic, and @zoecainart. These accounts were purposively selected based on their focus on mental health communication and active audience engagement. The findings identify three key patterns: the visual simplification of complex psychological experiences, the use of non-clinical and empathetic communication styles, and the active role of audiences in co-constructing meaning through interaction. These strategies transform abstract emotional states into relatable narratives that foster emotional identification. Audience responses are largely supportive and reflect validation and shared experiences, contributing to stigma reduction. However, most interactions remain affective and rarely develop into deeper critical discussion. This study contributes by shifting attention from psychological outcomes to communicative processes, showing how visual storytelling and participatory interaction shape digital mental health discourse and enable scalable community-based support.

Abstract

Aggressive behavior among adolescents remains a concern in high-density and socially vulnerable areas such as Johar Baru District, Central Jakarta. Existing studies have rarely examined the relative roles of emotional and cognitive factors within such contexts. This study addresses this gap by examining the association between forgiveness, future orientation, and adolescent aggressiveness using a quantitative, non-experimental correlational design. A total of 100 adolescents aged 10–17 years were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated scales and analyzed with Spearman’s rank correlation due to non-normal data distribution. The results showed a moderate, significant negative association between forgiveness and aggressiveness (ρ = −0.419; p < 0.05), while future orientation was weak and not significant (ρ = −0.181; p > 0.05). These findings indicate that forgiveness is associated with lower aggressiveness, although the effect size suggests a partial contribution alongside contextual factors. Given the correlational design, causal claims cannot be made. Limitations include non-random sampling and self-report bias. The study highlights the importance of emotional processes while emphasizing the need to consider broader social conditions.

Abstract

Social equality for people with hearing impairments remains a challenge due to communication barriers, social stigma, and limited access to information. Despite the growing emphasis on inclusive communication in disability advocacy, there is still limited research on how community-based initiatives implement these strategies and their impact. This study aims to analyze the role of inclusive communication strategies employed by the Sunyi Bermakna community in promoting social equality for people with hearing impairments. This research uses a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation analysis, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that inclusive communication strategies such as the use of sign language, visual messaging, accessible social media content, and cross-community collaboration enhance public awareness and participation. For example, the use of subtitles and sign language in digital campaigns increased audience engagement and improved message accessibility, while collaborative initiatives expanded advocacy reach. However, this study is limited to a single community and lacks quantitative measurement of impact. Overall, inclusive communication plays a significant role not only in information delivery but also in fostering social inclusion and equality.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Elementary education in Indonesia continues to grapple with pervasive rote memorization practices in IPAS (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial/science and social studies) instruction that result in students' superficial conceptual understanding. This integrative literature review examined how the integration of deep learning pedagogy and ethnoscience perspectives functions as conceptual bridges for meaningful IPAS comprehension. Following Whittemore and Knafl's (2022) methodology, 42 empirical studies published between 2018 and 2025 were synthesized from Scopus, ERIC, Google Scholar, Garuda, and SINTA databases. Consistently reported across studies, three transformative mechanisms were identified: (1) cognitive anchoring through culturally familiar local phenomena such as subak irrigation systems (evidenced in 28 of 42 studies), (2) dialogic knowledge co-construction grounded in Tri Hita Karana philosophy (19 studies), and (3) metacognitive awareness development through reflective inquiry (15 studies). The resulting integrative framework offers theoretically grounded pathways for designing IPAS instruction that promotes conceptual change rather than factual accumulation, supporting Kurikulum Merdeka implementation.
