Abstract

This study aimed to develop and evaluate the feasibility of game-based physical fitness activity materials focusing on the strength component for junior high school students. The research was motivated by the limited student engagement and the monotonous implementation of physical education (PE) learning at SMP Swasta Widiya Dharma, which often resulted in passive participation during lessons. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach adapted from the Borg and Gall model, using seven stages: research and information collection, planning, initial product development, preliminary field testing, product revision, main field testing, and final product revision. Data were collected through expert validation and student response questionnaires. The participants consisted of 30 seventh-grade students, including 10 students in the small-group trial and 20 students in the large-group trial. Validation results from the preliminary trial indicated acceptance rates of 72% from physical fitness experts, 68% from game-learning experts, and 85% from student responses. Following product revision, the main field trial showed improved results, with scores of 86% from physical fitness experts, 84% from game-learning experts, and 90% from student responses. These results indicate that the developed materials met the criteria for high feasibility and acceptance. Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of an eccentric training program on hamstring muscle strength in badminton athletes. An experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design was employed. Twelve badminton players (age: 20.00 ± 0.60 years; body mass: 67.56 ± 8.68 kg; height: 170.16 ± 9.75 cm) from the Badminton Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia participated in the study. Six athletes were assigned to the experimental group (ECC), which received an eccentric training intervention, while the remaining six athletes were assigned to the control group (CON), which continued with conventional training. Participants were selected using purposive sampling based on the following inclusion criteria: (1) active students competing in the UPI badminton UKM competitive category and (2) regular attendance in badminton training sessions. Athletes were excluded if they experienced lower-extremity pain, had a current injury, or were undergoing rehabilitation following a lower-body injury. Hamstring muscle strength was assessed using the Unilateral 90° Isometric Hamstring Test performed on a force plate. The eccentric training program was administered for six weeks, consisting of 12 training sessions. The results revealed a significant increase in hamstring muscle strength in the ECC group following the intervention (p = 0.001). Furthermore, the mean gain score was significantly greater in the ECC group compared with the CON group. These findings suggest that eccentric training is an effective method for improving hamstring muscle strength in badminton athletes.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of computer vision (CV) technology has created new opportunities for analyzing and improving motor movement accuracy in competitive sports. This narrative review synthesizes theoretical and empirical evidence on the application of CV-based systems, including markerless motion capture, pose estimation algorithms, and real-time feedback technologies, to enhance athletic performance through motor learning processes. Drawing exclusively on peer-reviewed Scopus-indexed studies, the review examines motor learning theories, the technical foundations of CV systems, empirical evidence of their effectiveness, and key implementation challenges. The literature indicates that markerless CV systems can achieve kinematic accuracy comparable to traditional marker-based motion capture methods, particularly in sagittal-plane movement analysis. Advances in deep learning architectures, including convolutional neural networks (CNNs), graph convolutional networks (GCNs), and transformer-based models, have substantially improved real-time pose estimation accuracy. When integrated with motor learning frameworks such as Optimal Feedback Control Theory and the Optimal Theory of Motor Learning, CV-based feedback systems can enhance movement precision, support biomechanical correction, and facilitate skill acquisition. However, challenges related to occlusion, computational latency, environmental variability, and limited sport-specific datasets remain. Future research should emphasize standardized evaluation protocols, longitudinal validation studies, and ethical frameworks for AI-assisted coaching applications.

Abstract

Long jump is a technically demanding track-and-field event in which performance depends on the interaction of multiple biomotor components. While previous studies have examined the individual effects of explosive power, balance, and flexibility on athletic performance, a comprehensive synthesis of their combined contribution to long jump achievement remains limited. This narrative review critically examines theoretical and empirical evidence from Scopus-indexed literature to evaluate the independent and integrated roles of lower-limb explosive power, postural balance, and musculoskeletal flexibility in long jump performance. The reviewed evidence consistently identifies lower-limb explosive power as the strongest predictor of jump distance, explaining up to 43% of performance variance among athletes. Balance contributes approximately 28%, while flexibility accounts for about 12% of the variance. Collectively, these three biomotor qualities explain up to 77% of long jump performance variability. Mechanistically, explosive power facilitates the generation of optimal horizontal and vertical impulses during take-off, balance supports approach-run stability and landing control, and flexibility enhances joint range of motion, enabling efficient force production and movement execution. These findings highlight the multidimensional nature of long jump performance and emphasize the importance of integrated training programmes that simultaneously develop explosive power, balance, and flexibility. Future research should further investigate the interaction of these biomotor components across different athlete populations and performance levels.
