Abstract

This study examined the anxiety levels experienced by athletes at Satria Kencana Serasi Academy, Bergas District, Semarang Regency, during competitive events. A quantitative descriptive design was employed to provide an overview of athletes’ anxiety when facing competition-related pressure. The sample consisted of 20 athletes who had participated in competitions within the previous two years. Data were collected using the Indonesian version of the Sport Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS-2Id), administered through Google Forms. Descriptive analysis revealed a mean anxiety score of 49.65, with a maximum score of 60. The frequency distribution indicated that most athletes were categorized as having high anxiety (40%), followed by moderately high anxiety (30%). Overall, 75% of the athletes demonstrated elevated levels of competitive anxiety. These findings suggest that competition anxiety remains a significant psychological challenge for athletes and may negatively affect performance. Therefore, psychological intervention programs, including relaxation techniques, mental skills training, and social support, are recommended to help athletes manage competitive stress and optimize performance outcomes.

Abstract

Endurance is a critical physical fitness component for judo athletes, as competitive judo demands repeated explosive movements requiring optimal aerobic and anaerobic capacity. This study aimed to determine the effect of circuit training on endurance improvement of judo athletes at Al Jabbar Judo Club, Tuban Regency—a developmental-level club context that remains understudied in the existing literature. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. Thirteen athletes (4 male, 9 female) were selected through purposive sampling. The bleep test (multistage fitness test) was used to measure VO2max, while push-up, sit-up, and half squat tests assessed supporting components. The circuit training program comprised 16 sessions over five weeks (eight stations). Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and paired sample t-test. Mean VO2max increased significantly from 24.92 ml/kg/min (pretest) to 29.00 ml/kg/min (posttest), a gain of 4.08 ml/kg/min (16.37%). The paired sample t-test yielded t = −21.22, p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.30). Circuit training significantly improves endurance in developmental-level judo athletes. These findings provide evidence-based guidance for coaches and practitioners working in regional club training environments.

Abstract

Exercise motivation is a key factor in developing persistence, discipline, and long-term commitment to physical activity, particularly among adolescents who are in a critical transitional stage of development. One strategy that has been widely recognized for enhancing motivation in sports is goal setting. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effect of goal setting based on the SMART-ER principle on adolescents’ exercise motivation. An experimental method was employed involving 16 junior high school students participating in a boys’ basketball extracurricular program. The instrument used was the Sport Motivation Scale-II (SMS-II), which had undergone cross-cultural adaptation. The instrument demonstrated validity coefficients ranging from r = .455 to .911 and a high reliability coefficient (α = .946). The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality testing, and hypothesis testing through the Paired Sample t-test. The results revealed a significant effect of applying SMART-ER-based goal setting on adolescents’ exercise motivation (p = .004). More specifically, five motivation subscales showed improvement, while one subscale decreased. In conclusion, the application of goal setting using the SMART-ER principle can significantly enhance adolescents’ motivation to engage in exercise and sports training.

Abstract

Dyspraxia, or Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), impairs physical coordination in children, limiting their participation in daily activities and social interactions. No validated circuit-based approach targeting children with dyspraxia across four developmental domains has previously been established. This study aimed to develop and validate fundamental motor skill activities based on game circuits for children with dyspraxia. A Research and Development (RnD) approach following the Borg and Gall framework was employed, encompassing expert validation, small-group trials (n = 3; aged 5–6 years), and large-group trials (n = 7; aged 5–6 years). Content validity was assessed using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Content Validity Index (CVI); inter-rater reliability was assessed using the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC). The Denver Developmental Screening Test II (DDST-II) was used for field assessment. CVR was 1.0, exceeding the 0.62 threshold for a three-expert panel. ICC values ranged from acceptable to good: movement skill (ICC = 0.881), cognitive skill (ICC = 0.721), fun (ICC = 0.623), and attention focus (ICC = 0.633). DDST-II outcomes showed the majority of children passed in both trial phases. The four-post circuit game approach demonstrates strong content validity and acceptable inter-rater reliability, and effectively supports fundamental motor skill development in children with dyspraxia.

Abstract

This study develops and validates an Android-based volleyball test instrument designed to address the lack of standardized, technology-driven assessment tools in sports coaching education. Existing evaluations of volleyball skills are predominantly manual, resulting in inefficiency, limited scalability, and potential subjectivity. To bridge this gap, the study adopts a Research and Development approach using the ADDIE model, encompassing analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The participants included expert validators (instrument, media, and language) and university students as end users. This application integrates a comprehensive assessment of basic volleyball skills into a single, unified digital platform supported by learning guides, integrated video demonstrations, and an automated scoring and reporting system. Validation outcomes indicate high feasibility, with expert evaluations ranging from 95% to 96%, while user testing achieved 91.3%, demonstrating strong acceptance and usability. The key novelty of this study lies in the integration of standardized skill assessment instruments with real-time digital processing in a mobile environment, moving beyond conventional instructional media toward a data-driven evaluation system. The application significantly enhances assessment efficiency, consistency, and objectivity, while enabling scalable implementation in higher education settings. These findings position the developed tool as a practical and impactful solution for advancing digital transformation in sports performance assessment.
