Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of feedback and reinforcement-based psychological strategies in improving the life skills of Petanque athletes in Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Life skill development has become an important concern in modern sport psychology because it supports athletes’ emotional, social, and leadership competencies in addition to physical performance. However, the implementation of psychological strategies in precision sports such as Petanque remains limited. A quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test control group design was conducted involving 40 athletes divided into experimental and control groups over eight weeks. The Life Skills Scale for Sport (LSSS) was used to assess eight dimensions of life skills. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests, ANCOVA, and Cohen’s d effect size. The findings revealed significant improvements in teamwork, emotional regulation, and leadership among athletes in the experimental group, with the overall life skills score increasing by 15.2% (d = 0.82). Qualitative findings also indicated enhanced motivation, communication, and self-confidence. These results suggest that feedback and reinforcement-based psychological strategies are effective in promoting athlete life skill development and may be integrated into Petanque training programs.

Abstract

Understanding how the body produces and utilizes energy during exercise is key to enhancing athletic performance and refining training strategies. This systematic review analyzes recent studies on the contributions of the phosphagen (ATP-PCr), glycolytic (anaerobic), and oxidative (aerobic) energy systems in various sports. The review follows PRISMA 2020 guidelines and includes studies published between 2020 and 2025, selected from Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. Energy system contributions were evaluated using markers such as oxygen uptake, substrate utilization, blood lactate levels, and ATP turnover rates. The review finds that in high-intensity, short-duration events like the 100m sprint, the phosphagen system accounts for 70%, while glycolytic and oxidative systems contribute 25% and 5%, respectively. In endurance events such as marathons, oxidative metabolism dominates, contributing 85–95% of total energy. Sports with mixed intensity, such as soccer and basketball, show dynamic contributions, with oxidative metabolism at 50–60%, phosphagen at 20–30%, and glycolytic at 15–25%. These results highlight the importance of sport-specific training to optimize energy system interactions and performance.

Abstract

This research aims to develop and implement an interactive 360° video-based Diving Orpil learning media to improve the competence of Physical Education students of FKIP University of Bengkulu. The background of the research departs from the low effectiveness of diving learning which is still dominated by lecture methods and limited practical facilities, so that students have difficulty understanding basic diving techniques, underwater room orientation, and safety procedures. Through the Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, this study involved 35 third-semester students as subjects to test the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed media. Data was collected through closed questionnaires, open questionnaires, expert validation, and field trials. The results of the needs analysis show the high urgency of media innovation with a score of 4.32-4.60. The validation of media and material experts obtained a percentage of 87% and 85%, respectively, indicating that the media is very suitable for use. The results of the implementation show that interactive 360° videos are able to improve conceptual understanding, mental readiness, and basic diving skills, as well as encourage active student involvement in the learning process. Media has proven to be practical, accessible, and efficient in bridging the gap between theory and practice. This research produces outputs in the form of learning media prototypes and scientific articles for publication in accredited national journals. These findings confirm that the integration of immersive technology in sports learning can be a strategic solution to improve the quality and effectiveness of physical education at the college level

Abstract

Hamstring muscle strength plays an important role in start and turn techniques because these muscles contribute to body stabilization and thrust production. This study aims to analyze the correlation between hamstring muscle strength and FFM and BFM of the lower extremities in East Java swimmers. A cross-sectional method was used with 30 East Java swimmers (12 females and 18 males). FFM and BFM measurements were performed using InBody 270, while hamstring muscle strength was assessed using the Nordbord Hamstring Testing System. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and Spearman's correlation test. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between right hamstring muscle strength and right FFM (p-value = 0.001, r = 0.579), as well as left hamstring muscle strength and left FFM (p-value < 0.001, r = 0.621). Conversely, no significant relationship was found between hamstring muscle strength and right BFM (p-value = 0.772, r = -0.055) or left BFM (p-value = 0.944, r = 0.013). These findings indicate that the higher the FFM value, the greater the hamstring muscle strength.

Abstract

The underhand volleyball serving skills of Year 7 pupils at SMPN 2 Kenduruan Tuban are still relatively poor, characterised by imprecise direction, suboptimal accuracy, and movement techniques that do not yet comply with the basic principles of serving. This situation highlights the need for a structured learning strategy. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the drill method in improving pupils’ underhand volleyball serving skills. The study employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The study population comprised 101 students, with a sample of 33 Year 7 students selected via purposive sampling. The instrument used was the AAHPER Underhand Serve Test. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, and the Paired Sample t-Test. The results showed that the mean pretest score was 9.33, increasing to 13.33 in the posttest. The data were normally distributed, with significance values of 0.265 for the pretest and 0.085 for the posttest (p > 0.05). The hypothesis test yielded a t-value of -26.533 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Thus, the drill learning method proved effective in improving the underhand serve skills of Year 7 students at SMPN 2 Kenduruan Tuban.

Abstract

Although learning activities generally take place under normal and supportive conditions, it is still necessary to examine whether the anxiety experienced by students is related to changes in heart rate during learning or not. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between psychological anxiety and heart rate during physical activity in students in physical education classes. This study uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional correlation design conducted in July 2025 in Semarang. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling for grades 4 and 6 who participated in physical education classes, resulting in a sample of 110 students. The results of the Spearman non-parametric correlation test showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000. Because the Sig. (2-tailed) value was less than 0.005, this means that there is a significant relationship between psychological anxiety and heart rate. A correlation of 0.765 means that the strength of the correlation or relationship is very strong. There is a significant relationship and a strong correlation between psychological anxiety and the pulse rate of students during the physical education learning process.

Abstract

Lesson planning is an essential part of physical education because it guides the organization of objectives, content, learning activities, and assessment. This study aimed to identify and synthesize the barriers faced by physical education teachers in developing lesson plans. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted on 18 articles published between 2017-2026 and obtained from the Scopus and ScienceDirect databases. The inclusion criteria comprised empirical research related to barriers in planning physical education lessons in schools, while conference papers, book chapters, books, and review articles were excluded. Data analysis was carried out using thematic analysis. The findings revealed six main themes of barriers: pedagogical barriers, teacher professional capacity, technological barriers, institutional barriers, student and contextual barriers, and sociocultural barriers. Pedagogical barriers and teacher professional capacity were the most frequently reported, indicating that challenges related to instructional design and teacher competency were the dominant obstacles in planning physical education lessons. Technological and institutional barriers are also significant, but less frequently reported. The study shows that barriers to lesson planning in physical education are influenced by various interrelated multidimensional factors.
