Abstract

Emotional eating is a phenomenon of eating behavior triggered by emotions, especially negative emotions such as stress, anxiety, or depression. This behavior is of particular concern in public health due to its contribution to overweight and obesity prevalence across different age groups. In the context of certain populations, such as medical students, weight gain is often influenced by unhealthy lifestyles due to high academic pressure. Stress due to a heavy academic load can trigger unhealthy eating behaviors, one of which is emotional eating, which is the tendency to overeat in response to negative emotions such as stress, anxiety, or sadness. This study is an analytic observational study using a cross-sectional study design and the sampling technique used is simple random sampling with the aim of evaluating the relationship between emotional eating as an independent variable with excessive body weight as the dependent variable, in medical students of the Faculty of Medicine, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. The number of medical students at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University, who have the habit of emotional eating is 38 students (50.7%), and the number of students who are excess weight is 28 students (37.3%). Additionally, 16 students (21.30%) have both excess weight and emotional eating habits, while 25 students (33.30%) don’t have either excess weight or emotional eating habits. There was an insignificant relationship between the incidence of emotional eating and excessive body weight in medical students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. Keywords : emotional eating, weight gain problem, medical students, faculty of medicine

Abstract

Stroke is a leading cause of global morbidity and mortality, particularly among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and hypertension (HTN), where the combination of these conditions increases the risk of stroke. Several studies indicate that patients with both T2DM and HTN have a higher incidence of new stroke cases and recurrences compared to those with only one of these conditions. A prognosis-based evidence analysis was conducted using the Evidence-Based Case Report method, with article searches performed in the PubMed, Cochrane, and ProQuest databases. Articles were selected based on exclusion criteria and duplication, followed by a critical appraisal of three cohort studies using Sackett’s (1996) prognosis worksheet. The study by Chang et al. (2022) showed that the incidence of new strokes in patients with T2DM and HTN within one year reached 15%, with a stroke risk 1.743 times higher than in patients without both conditions (95% CI: 1.216–2.499, p = 0.003). Meanwhile, Liu et al. (2021) found that the combination of T2DM and HTN further increased stroke risk (aHR = 2.620, 95% CI = 2.031 - 3.380, p < 0.0001). A long-term study by Hu et al. (2005) reported that patients with both conditions had up to 3.7 times higher stroke risk compared to patients without hypertension (HR = 3.7, 95% CI = 2.77 – 4.99). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that patients with T2DM and HTN have a higher risk of stroke than those with diabetes alone, emphasizing the importance of strict management of blood pressure and blood glucose levels in preventing stroke.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries in the Southeast Asian region that contributes the largest malaria cases after India. In 2022, there has been the highest increase in cases in the last 3 years. Various molecular findings and malaria genomization projects are now increasingly being researched in a number of research centers around the world. However, only a few systematic reviews are available regarding malaria in Indonesia. This article aims to explore the latest update of malaria pathogenesis, so that it is expected to be a reference in establishing proper diagnosis and deciding on therapy, as well as contributing to the development of tropical infection science in Indonesia. As one of parasite causing Malaria, P. falciparum has ability to carry out an unlimited antigen variation by altering gene expression on the surface of infected red blood cells. When infected, the morphology of red blood cells changes significantly compared to uninfected ones. One indicator of the severity of malaria is a significant reduction in the flexibility of red blood cells. Plasmodium products trigger host release of a number of cytokines that aggravate clinical manifestations. For this reason, treatment with anti-cytokines is thought to be able to overcome the clinical manifestations of severe malaria. Malaria toxin is an immunogen produced by parasites. This toxin will induce the host so that it releases molecules bound to the serum. The Pf155 antigen, also called ring-stage erythrocyte surface antigen (RESA), can also trigger TNF-. Thrombospondin, CD36, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 which are receptors located on infected erythrocytes. The degree of parasitemia may change over time in malaria infection. Repeated infections followed by the appearance of other antigens are a way for plasmodium to trick the immune system.

Abstract

Abstract

Dermatomycosis or superficial fungal infection (SFI) is one of the most common fungal skin infections suffered by the world community and often occurs in countries with tropical climates. The prevalence of SFI itself is still very high at around 20%-25% of the world's population. Data on the prevalence of SFI in Indonesia cannot be found with certainty. Dermatomycosis spreads through skin contact, poor sanitation, wearing contaminated items and consumption of immunosuppressive drugs. Dermatomycosis is not life-threatening but greatly interferes with daily activities. This study aims to determine the risk factors associated with the occurrence of dermatomycosis cases in patients seeking treatment at the Unyur Health Center. This study used observational analytical method with cross-sectional design. The subjects studied were dermatomycosis patients who sought treatment at the Unyur Health Center in Serang City. Samples were taken by consecutive sampling of 41 workers. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and medical records. Data were analyzed using Fisher's Exact test and Chi-Square test. The prevalence of dermatomycosis in patients who seek treatment at the Unyur Health Center in Serang City is 56.1%. There was no significant relationship between the level of patient hygiene and sociodemographic factors of patients with the incidence of dermatomycosis at the Unyur Health Center.

Abstract

A study of nursing students at the Bali Institute of Technology and Health found that 60.3% of students were in the high emotional intelligence category. (Ni Kadek, 2022). The results of Pioh dkk (2016) show that as much as 95% of students stated that the effectiveness of the PBL group discussion was well assessed in its implementation.5 The success of the PBL group explored by Dolmans dkk, they found a linear relationship between the success of PBL tutorial group and several dimensions of motivation and cognitive (elaborasi dan interaksi). According to Dolman, there is a problem that is called "ritual" behavior, which is that students pretend to be active in the discussion process, while in fact they are not involved in the debate process. 5 Emotional intelligence will drive student learning motivation. Lack of learning motivation in discussion group members will cause students to contribute only little and less actively during discussion. Given the importance of group discussion learning method (PBL) in achieving medical learning CPL, the author is interested in conducting research into the relationship between emotional intelligence and the effectiveness of group discussions online in FKIK Untirta medical students. Research design method using cross sectional design, quantitative observational research. The researchers used a stratified random sampling technique on a medical student. The reseach uses two types of questionnaires; the adoption questionnaire of the Emotional Competence Inventory of Ini Kadek’s research, and the Tutorial Group Effectiveness Instrument (TGEI). Based on the results of the study, the majority of emotional intelligence were in the middle category with 50 respondents (53,2%), in the high category 44 respondents (46,8%), and no respondents in the low emotional intelligence category. PBL discussions conducted by medical students of FKIK Untirta have been conducted effectively (98,9%). Bivariate analysis using Fisher Exact Test, showed no relationship (p>0,05) between emotional intelligence and discussion effectiveness. The category of emotional intelligence in students is at a moderate leel, the PBL discussions are already running effectively. There was no relationship between emotional intelligence and effectiveness of PBL discussions.
