Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan secara kualitatif pelaksanaan kegiatan pembelajaran keterampilan menyimak kuliah mahasiswa PBSI FBS UNY dengan pemaksimalan penerapan kegiatan pramenyimak (pre listening) dan pascamenyimak (post listening). Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester I program studi PBSI FBS UNY yaitu kelas A dan G. Tempat penelitian ini adalah seluruh wilayah FBS. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik observasi pertisipan (participant observer). Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri sebagai instrumen inti dengan bantuan instrumen lain berupa catatan lapangan dan wawancara tidak terstruktur. Kredibilitas data dalam penelitian ini dicapai dengan trianggulasi. Analisis data penelitian ini menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: Kegiatan pramenyimak (prelistening) yang dilakukan sebelum menyimak kuliah adalah: (1) diskusi, (2) membuat pertanyaan tentang topik (quest ion), dan (3) membaca sekilas (skimming) bacaan yang terkait dengan topik. Adapun kegiatan pascamenyimak (postlistening) yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa adalah (1) menulis esai singkat (short written texts), (2) membuat ringkasan materi, (3) analisis kebahasaan (language work), (4) menggunakan kosakata tertentu yang baru dipahami untuk mengungkapkan gagasan (vocabulary work), (5) berdiskusi tentang materi yang sudah dipahami melalui kegiatan menyimak kuliah (group sharing), dan (6) membaca bacaan yang relefan dengan materi (reading). Pelaksanaan kegiatan pramenyimak (prelistening) dan (postlistening) baik berdasarkan kuantitas maupun kualitasnya belum maksimal. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pascamenyimak (postlistening) dapat terlaksana secara efektif jika dikemas dalam sebuah rangkaian tugas. Jika tidak demikian, pelaksanaan hanya dilakukan oleh mahasiswa tertentu yang berminat dan mahasiswa lain bertindak semaunya sendiri. Abstract

ABSTRAKAnalisis wacana kritis (AWK) merupakan pendekatan yang relatif baru dalammengupas wacana sebagai praksis sosial. Dalam membedah wacana, penafsir tidak bolehlepas dari faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pembentukan wacana, yaitu budaya, politik,ideologi, intiutusi, dan semua faktor sosoial yang melingkupinya. Dalam melakukaninterpretasi wacana, seorang interperatan harus secara simultan melibatkan tiga dimensi,yaitu dimensi teks, dimensi praksis kewacanaan, dan dimensi praksis sosiokultural. Abstract

(Title: The Features of Indian Diaspora and Their Identity in Jumpha Lahiri's Short Story "Unaccustomed Earth"). America is a multicultural country. It results from the immigration of various ethnic backgrounds from Asia, Africa, and Europe since the beginning of the 19th century. As one of the ethnic communities in the US, the Indian diaspora encounters many experiences in their life. This article explores the feature and identity of Indian diaspora represented in Lahiri's "Unaccustomed Earth". It aims to reveal some of the Indian diaspora's features in the US and concludes their current cultural identity through analytical reading of the short story. This is a qualitative content analysis. It applies a theory of diaspora to dig the underlying information from the data. The study shows that Indian diaspora experience several features that include having trouble at their first interaction in the country, recalling the tradition of the homeland, associating with the people from the same ethnic background, and processing the idea of going home to the homeland. In the short story, it is found that the characters embody a hybrid identity. Keywords: Indian, diaspora, identity, hybrid, America

Abstract

Abstract(Title: The Local Wisdom In Javanese Thinking Culture Within Hanacaraka Philosophy).    Hanacaraka refers to the written language of Javanese, Javanese script. The name is based on the order of the twenty-Javanese-script, which is started by the series of hanacaraka script. This study aims to describe the local wisdom content of Javanese Thinking culture within the philosophical meaning of hanacaraka. This study used a semiotic approach applied to the main data source, namely Síªrat Kérata Basa. The results showed that (1) the philosophical meaning of the hanacaraka script was fully equipped with the wisdom of Javanese thinking culture in the form of symbolism and othak-athik mathuk which is supported by deep contemplation which involves all the common senses, including the inner sensitivity; (2) hanacaraka philosophy depicts God creature's (human) circumstances, which is equipped with creation, feeling, and effort; human cannot avoid all God's fate upon them until the end of their life; human conditions that achieve life harmony due to the ability to unify the manifestation of God and human characteristics, which heats up within themselves; human condition which put God's order highly by doing all the orders and avoiding all of His warnings. Keywords: local wisdom, Javanese thinking, Hanacaraka

Abstract

(Title: Representing Others Carl Thompson  in The Novel "Traveler's Tale: Belok Kanan Barcelona"). This research appllied representing other Carl Thomson approach in a novel entitled Traveler's Tale: Belok Kanan Barcelona. Representing other in the mentioned novel was conducted to expound on how the writer portrays west and east culture as the travel writing. The writer applied Carl Thompson's Theory to indentifying Travelers Tale novel; Belok Kanan Barcelona from the representing other's concept trough descriptive and qualitative approach. The research result has shown that they appraise the west culture than the east culture - tend to belittle the east culture.  The revealing of the two differnt culture features is represented in a form of idiology in travel writing. Ergo, from this research, we can conclude that the writing technique tends to exergerating the west (self),  the comparison result  tends to belittle the east culture (others). Keywords: travel writing, representing other, carl thompson.

Abstract

(Title: The Marriage Archetype Pivoting To Síªrat Wédhí¥ Taní¥yí¥). Marriage is one of the cycles of life conducted based on norms society, one of the example is marriage happening in Javanese society. The research entitled The Marriage Archetype Pivoting to Síªrat Wédhí¥ Taní¥yí¥ aimed to describe the marriage archetype in Javanese script. The method used to analyze in this research is qualitative-descriptive by using the script entitled Síªrat Wédhí¥ Taní¥yí¥ which belong to the library of Dewantara Kirti Griya in Yogyakarta. The data were gathered by translating, reducing, and categorizing the text. The data analysis was analysed heuritically and hermeneutically. Based on the discussion, there are some obtained data abaout marriage in Javanese background, those are: 1) partner characterization; 2) man obligation in marriage; 3) the marriage archetype; 4) the marriage manners. The rule or etiquette conveyed in this script is expected to be one of the pivoting principles to select the marriage partner, and it also becomes a way of consideration in doing the prospective partner selection in marriage. Abstract

(Title: Deixis Form and Function on Tintin Comic's: Le Sceptre D'ottokar). This study aim to identify deixis form and describe function of deixis lexicons on Tintin: Le Sceptre d'Ottokar (T.LSO). The data were gathered through observation, as the basic technique was tapping technique. Then it was  followed by Uninvolved Conversation Observation Technique and combined with record technique. The data analysis that used are referential [identity] method.The results of the study show that: 1) symbolic deixis has referential function, conative function and emotive function, 2) gestural deixis de la tíªte: un objet, un lieu et une personne is not found, 3) gestural deixis désigne de la main/ pointage has referential and conative function, 4) gestural deixis du regard has referential and emotive function, 5) anaforic deixis has referential and conative function. Keywords: deixis, comic, pragmatic

Abstract

(Title: Kaba Lamamang Tanjung Ampalu: a Search for Local Wisdom). Kaba is a type of oral literature typical of the West Sumatra region, ethnic Minangkabau. Kaba is a story told by a Kabaist with accompaniment of fiddle music. Kaba's literary strength is largely determined by the ability of the Kabaist. Kaba Lamang Tanjung Ampalu is played by Hasan Basril, one of the interesting research subjects to study. Issues of value or local wisdom in Kaba Lamang Tanjung Ampalu are considered interesting and need to be raised. The reason, Kaba as oral literature and values of life as a social phenomenon become an interrelated element. As a human's creation, Kaba will convey the values contained to the audience, so that Kaba can influence the listener's mindset. This reasoning is in accordance with the opinion of Wallek and Warren (1989) that in literature (Kaba) there is a value of life. The descriptive analytical research method explains the meaning of the contents of symbolic interactions that occur in communication events so that the contents of Kaba can be understood appropriately. As a result, this study shows that there are 7 local wisdoms in Kaba Lamang Tanjung Ampalu; the value of local wisdom relates to livelihoods, equipment, values of knowledge, religious systems, arts, social systems, and language and literature.Keywords: kaba, local wisdom, Minangkabau ethnicity

Abstract

(Title: Sexuality and Relation Man's and Woman's in the Poem "Persetubuhan Bumi" by Goenawan Mohamad). Inequality between woman and man in asexual relationship appear many time in Indonesia's poetry. Women are often being put in a second position even though they have the same competence and power with men. It also happens in relationship on daily activities, both at public space or at home. Women are often connected to a domestic work and have to do many things as away to prove her devotion to men. This affected even to the most private relation between men and women. Women often positioned as a tool to satisfy men's sexual desire. In Goenawan Mohamad's poems, he displays sexuality and relation between men and women in a unique and beautiful way. In this relationship, women are still put in second position, althought the woman genuinely enjoy and satisfied from the sexual activity. Women are shown as a passive body in the hand of men's power. This research is using theory of intertextual and gender. This research shows that there are many factors that created inequality between men and women in a subject of sexual relationship. Keywords: sexuality, relation, intertextual, feminist.

Abstract

(Title: Film "The Act of Killing" as an Aesthetic Discourse). This study aims to elaborate how The Act of Killing comes as a aesthetic discourse. This was a descriptive qualitative study with content analysis method. The data were text (both audio and visual) in the film as well as the audience's review about the film and the people included. The result shows that the film is an imaginative documentary. The film tries to reveal what has been hidden, the oppressed people in terms of humanitarianism, expressively and persuasively. The humanitarian side visualized was compared to the one in audience life so that they can understand complex problem on ideology. It is "˜ideology for human' or "˜sacrificing human beings in the name of ideology (any)'. The aesthetic values in the film were emotion, beauty and understanding. The killing and torturing scenes have touched the audience's emotion. The director's cinematic skills to present horrible experience is the beauty making the audience close to the past. The statements related to "˜new insight' indicate that the film is like an understanding of a past event.Keywords: The Act of Killing, discourse, aesthetic
