Abstract

This research is motivated by the low skills of students in solving mathematical problems, where problem solving skills are one of the important skills of the 21st century. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of the discovery learning model assisted by the mathematics learning module on students' mathematical problem-solving skills. This type of research is quasi-experimental. The research design used is Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The research was conducted in the fifth grade in two elementary schools. The instrument used in this research was a test instrument consisting of 8 essay questions. Data analysis techniques using parametric statistical tests. The research results obtained: 1) the average mathematical problem-solving skills of students in the experimental group reached the passing grade; 2) the proportion of experimental class students who achieved a passing grade was more than 75%; 3) the average experimental mathematical problem-solving skills is higher than the control group; 4) students' mathematical problem-solving skills in the experimental group have increased (n-gain) with the criteria of "high." Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that learning using the discovery learning model assisted by the mathematics learning module is effective in improving students' mathematical problem-solving skill.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of creative writing. Students still find it difficult to write literary works, especially short stories. This study aims to analyze the effect of the short story writing program on the creative writing skills of high school students. Analysis was carried out on aspects of word choice (shape, synonyms, collocation) and aspects of creativity in making short stories (fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration). The method used in this research is quasi-experimental. The instrument used is a test of creative writing skills and indicators for assessing aspects of word choice and creativity. Research participants consisted of 250 high school students. The number of samples was divided into 125 students in the experimental group and 125 students in the control group. Data were analyze using descriptive statistics, t test, analysis of variance test (ANOVA) to investigate significant differences between the means and calculate the effect size using SPSS. The results of the study show that short story writing programs can improve students' creative writing skills. The improvement of students' short story writing skills can be seen in the improvement in the quality of writing from several aspects, namely the aspect of word choice (forms, synonyms, collocations) and aspects of creativity in making short stories (fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration). From the results of the study it can be concluded that this creative writing program can improve the ability to write short stories.

Abstract

Several factors influence the low level of student participation. One of the causes of low student learning participation in citizenship education courses is the use of learning models during lectures. This research aims to increase student participation by applying the Jigsaw learning model in the Citizenship Education course. This research uses mixed methods, namely combining qualitative and quantitative research. Quantitative methods were used for questionnaire instruments to collect data on student participation levels after implementing the jigsaw learning model. In contrast, qualitative methods were used to analyze data using the Miles and Huberman model of qualitative data analysis, which consists of data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. The subjects in this research were management study program students studying citizenship. The research results show increased student participation in Citizenship Education courses after implementing the Jigsaw learning model, with an average achievement of 88%, which is included in the high criteria. The Jigsaw learning model is appropriate because it can increase student participation in Citizenship Education courses.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability of students to understand scientific concepts and solve scientific problems. The aim of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of the PBL learning model in improving Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) abilities. A quantitative approach was used in this research using the Quasi Experimental method with a Non Equivalent Control Group design to determine the effectiveness of learning using the problem based learning (PBL) model in improving students' high-level thinking skills in vocational school student product competencies. The sample selection technique used was purposive sampling by selecting a sample of 200 class III vocational school students. Data is collected by using is pretest-intervention-posttest. The test conducted in normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis tests. The results of the research show that the problem-based learning method is effective in improving high-level thinking abilities significantly compared to control abilities using conventional methods. Overall student cognitive learning outcomes from the pre-test and post-test always increase, where in the experimental class it increases from 28.45 to 68.6 while in the control class it increases from 23.78 to 55.32. Then a Wilcoxon test of 0.000 (2-tailed sig <0.05) was carried out to determine the magnitude of the intervention effect. Based on the test results, students who received intervention with PBL experienced a significant increase in high-level thinking skills in product competency for vocational school students compared to students who received intervention with conventional methods.

Abstract

The pandemic has provided a significant change in the learning system. It changed the teachers and students’ methods in learning. During pandemic, the learning process through screen and learning management system. That condition gave positive and negative effect in learning. The positive impact of the pandemic is that teachers and students are able to used online learning methods and improve their skills in using internet and IT, while the negative impact is that students decreased their interest in learning because students tend to confused and misunderstood on the teachers’ explanations. The purpose of this study was to analyze how the interest in learning English of nine grade students, why is the student on that level of interest, and whether there is a significant relationship between students' learning interest and English mastery. The research method used was a mixed-method study with 36 participants of Junior High School students. The convergent parallel design used in this study. The instruments used are questionnaires, interview, and students’ final score in the first semester in academic year 2022/2023. Based on the data obtained, there are 9 students who have a high level of interest in English, 26 students have a medium level of interest in English, and 1 student has a low level of interest in English. The result showed that there is a significant relationship between students' English learning interest and students’ English mastery and a positive effect on students' English skills.

Abstract

Statistics learning in the time of distance education makes students uneasy due to the difficulties in the learning environment and processes. This article aims to analyze the level of difficulty faced by students in statistics distance education and captures the causal factors affecting it. Cross-sectional secondary data were used from a current study in literature and described by standard statistical measures. The study utilized the level of difficulty in learning statistics during online setup as the dependent variable in the form of a scale of 1 to 10. The study used standard descriptive measures. Moreover, this study also use quantile regression models were constructed. Results depicted that students were facing "difficulty" as they learn statistics during distance education. The quantile regression revealed that the learning environment, inaccessible places (rural areas), and more family members are the statistically significant factors that influence the difficulty level in learning statistics online. This implies that due to the distractive place of learning, students cannot focus and penetrate their lessons. In addition, students were struggling with communication technology and internet access wherein it is vital in classroom engagement and the acquisition of learning resources. Hence, the study suggests that students must be supported by the government in regard to their learning needs and teachers must promote a positive and interesting educational environment. Furthermore, teachers must undergo training and workshops on how to be equipped in teaching statistics online.

Abstract

As a teacher candidate, a college student should master 21st-century skills. Critical thinking is one of the directions of 21st-century education. As prospective educators, college students also need to master critical thinking skills supported by good self-regulated learning as a provision so that they can carry out meaningful learning in class later. This study aims to analyze the effect of applying the multiliteracy learning model on college students' critical thinking skills in terms of their self-regulated learning. The research method used was a quantitative experiment with a 2 x 3 factorial design. The test instrument employed a two-tier essay with a total of six items, which had been declared valid and reliable. Data analysis was performed after all data from respondents had been collected then continuing hypotheses. Based on the results of testing the hypothesis employing a two-way ANOVA test with different cells, the results obtained were Fobs > Fα, with details of Fa > Fα (18.03901 > 3.986269479), Fb > Fα (27.5862 > 3.135917934), and Fab > Fα (139.2992 > 3.135917934). These results reveal that the multiliteracy learning model affected college students' critical thinking skills, self-regulated learning influenced college students' critical thinking skills, and the multiliteracy learning model interacted with the level of self-regulated learning on critical thinking skills.
